Double first name---should I add a hyphen?

My 4-year-old daughter is named [name]Lily[/name] [name]Hope[/name] (double first name). We call her [name]Lily[/name] [name]Hope[/name] at home quite a bit- but at pre-school, she goes by [name]Lily[/name], mainly because that’s what her teachers call her. She’ll be starting kindergarten next year, and I’m wondering if I should add a hyphen to her first name, making it [name]Lily[/name]-[name]Hope[/name]. Lots of people think that she has two middle names, rather than a double first name. And now that [name]Lily[/name] is becoming more popular- I think it’s especially important that people know her full first name. Thoughts on this?

I think I’d skip the hyphen. Im from a region where double names are pretty common without the hyphen so i just like the look of it better. Instead I would just make sure to specify on her school forms that she goes by both names. Maybe make a point to mention it when you meet her teacher. I think once the teacher is on board the rest will take care of itself.

Also, my sister has a double name and was very particular what she was called. So if [name]Lily[/name] [name]Hope[/name] corrects them that her name is not [name]Lily[/name] that will usually make an impression.

I wouldn’t use the hyphen either. If you’re in the U.S., the hyphen (as well as any other punctuation) is not used by SSA, and could create problems with tax filing, or driver’s license renewals if one attempts to use the hyphen.

I don’t think a hyphen is necessary. I know alot of girls who have name without a hyphen…[name]Anna[/name] [name]Sophia[/name], [name]Maria[/name] [name]Carolina[/name]
