I really like the name [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] but I’ve always wondered if having a double first name creates problems when filling out forms and such. I would consider [name_f]Mary[/name_f] (first name) [name_f]Kate[/name_f] (middle) but my last name is very generic and I wonder if [name_f]Mary[/name_f] might sound like a fake name or an alias or something with it. I’m probably overanalyzing, but what do you all think?
All I think when I hear [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] & [name_u]Ashley[/name_u].
I like double middle names, sometimes. If they dont sound clunky. Not so much double barrel first names
I love [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]! I’m always in favor of using a middle name with a double barrel first, so that people won’t assume it’s a first & middle.
With a generic last name, I would go with [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] (double first) over just [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. Not because it seems like an alias but to make it less common. [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is sweet and has a Southern feel. I do think of [name_f]Mary[/name_f]-[name_f]Kate[/name_f] [name_m]Olsen[/name_m] but the [name_m]Olsen[/name_m] twins books were a childhood favourite of mine and is a fairly dated reference now.
It may just be me but what I call “[name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Smith[/name_m] names” (first and last both very common) really confuse me, like they’re almost interchangeable. I’m constantly mixing up [name_f]Joni[/name_f] [name_m]Mitchell[/name_m] (the singer) and [name_u]Joan[/name_u] [name_m]Mitchell[/name_m] (the artist), for example. [name_f]Mary[/name_f] GenericLastName would probably have the same effect on me.
I would probably go [name_f]Mary[/name_f]-[name_f]Kate[/name_f]. I don’t think it will pose any problems with forms because both are quite short, so it’s just as much trouble as, say, [name_f]Annelise[/name_f] or [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f].
I do think of the [name_m]Olsen[/name_m] twins, like the previous posters have mentioned, but I adore the name [name_f]Mary[/name_f]-[name_f]Kate[/name_f]. It’s a classic that still feels young and playful.
