I know that there are lots of mothers with twins on here, and mums with babies close together so I have a question about double prams.
Which one did you buy and why?
Side by side or one in front of the other?
I’m not too worried about cost, I just want the best pram and usually asking other mums is the best way to find out whats best. We live in the city so I walk everywhere and I continue to use my pram everyday with my 2 year old and don’t expect that to change once baby no. 2 arrives.
Thanks,

Our decision was VERY cost-based (we are certified cheapskates and die-hard consumers). However, we liked our Graco DuoGlider a lot. It’s not too heavy for throwing into the backseat or trunk of a car, and you really can fold it up using only one hand. Another advantage to having the back-to-back seating (as opposed to side-by-side) was that it wasn’t a problem to fit through doors.
With a newborn, I’d look for one that can hold the carseat. We had the Graco DuoGlider as well and I didn’t like how long it was (which is almost unavoidable with tandem). I switched to a Combi Twin Sport and I’ve really liked it. It barely fits through a normal doorway and can be difficult to turn, so those are things to consider. I usually have little to no trouble walking around a mall or a larger store, but smaller stores can be a pain to navigate. It’s hard to get an idea of a stroller without trying it out with a baby (or two) in it. Hopefully, you can some more advice on what’s good or nice to have. Good luck!
We are expecting #2 in [name]July[/name], about a week before [name]Leo[/name] turns two and have just bought a [name]Phil[/name]&Teds [name]Navigator[/name] (Adaptable buggies for 1 or 2 kids | phil&teds®).
We haven’t bought the doubles kit yet, we’re waiting til closer to when baby arrives. So far I’ve found it really easy to operate, its very smooth to push around, and easy to manoeuvre with just one hand. It’s a bit larger than the pushchair we used to have, but I’ve quickly become used to that.
A little while away from having two, but as we want a few kids and we’re getting old I’ve already looked into this a little…
If you live in a big and crowded city I’d steer away from the side by side ones unless you’ve got twins. They are so wide and bulky. You can get narrower ones, but my friend who bought one of these bought a second one a few months later because it was too narrow for his toddler to be comfortable in. If you get the tandem kind they often have a detachable one you can remove when your toddler gets older and replace it with one of those board things he/she can stand on instead. They’re (for the most) lighter and easier to handle. It will also give your children more privacy, and let the little one sleep peacefully while your toddler can do what he/she wants without being told off for bugging the little baby. My friend who has a tandem one has an i[name]Candy[/name] [name]Peach[/name] [name]Blossom[/name] Tandem, and they are very happy with it.
I dont have a double pram but i do have a triple mountain buggy pram and love it! That being said their isn’t much choice with triplets…but the mountain buggy is great for us! It’s light and as compact as possible. Their double pram is good too! Fitting through general doors is a bit of an issue though!
I’ve heard good things about the icandy pram from people at mothers group too like ottilie.
We have a [name]BOB[/name] doullie (think thats how you spell it) I think the sport version, whatever has the big hefty wheels. Have gotten a lot of use out of it over the years, worth every penny (which we got it on a major sale when they were changing up the color designs). At the time, there were few double jogging strollers with a high weight limit. Which, I want my 3-4-5 year olds to be able to take a break from time to time too which was why we liked the higher weight limit. Plus, if nobody is in the other seat it makes a great sherpa for a diaperbag etc.
[name]Will[/name] be watching this thread, too! [name]Will[/name] have a newborn twins + a toddler when they’re born! :S
I’ve read about that Icandy one, and my friend had one when her 2nd was born and she said it was great! I think we’re probably going to invest in that one. I also like the look of the Bugaboo (donkey? I think) double pram, but I think it’s a LOT more pricey than others that are probably the same quality.
Thanks for the responses!
I went to the baby store near me the other day and was overwhelmed but all the prams that hold two babies these days!
I’ve had a Bugaboo and I’ve loved it so I was contemplating the Donkey but the seats are just to small for my little boy so it’s out sadly.
I loved the look and feel of the i[name]Candy[/name] pram…has anyone had one? I’d love some first hand feedback on them!
Thanks again!

[name]Hi[/name] there, I have 2.5yo, 22m and 5m olds. I’m in the UK so this may not be useful to you but thought i’d share my experience! I just wondered if you had considered continuing with your current buggy and carrying baby in a sling? My second was very premature so we really didn’t go out a lot for a good while but once everything settled down we did the sling and single buggy for a while before investing in a double. I’m currently having baby in the sling and the 2 toddlers in the pram. I have a Combi We 2 Twin pushchair and I find it pretty good. It’s lightweight and folds up pretty small - fits in the boot of my VW polo easily but the seats are a good size. Like others have said it’s a little challenging in small stores but we fit… just! Hoping the oldest will be walking by the time baby is too big to carry in sling! I use a Ellaroo sling with ring - they’re easy to adjust and work from newborn onwards - you can breastfeed with baby in place too. They also come in a series of rather fun colours… Anyway, hope that was of some use. [name]Rachel[/name] x
Have you considered getting a ‘buggy board’? It’s a little platform with wheels that can clip on the back of your existing pram, so your older kid can stand on it for a ride. My no.1 was almost 3 when no.2 was born, so she can walk a fair distance, but sometimes is a bit tired or slow (or lazy) so it’s perfect for her to hop on & off when she needs, and when she isn’t on it can easily clip up off the ground. It’s supposed to be for standing, but my daughter manages to sit crosslegged on it as well and if the pram seat is in rear-facing mode she also sometimes perches on the edge of the footrest with her feet on the buggy board.
It’s a good option for shorter trips; but obviously doesn’t provide the sleeping option of a double pram, it may also reduce the manouverability of your pram a bit when in use with toddler on board (might need 2 hands to steer around a tight corner). My pram also has a central foot brake, so when I’m using the board it makes it a bit tricky to access, but for me the pros far outweigh the cons. No.2 is nearly one year old now and this the only pram configuration I have used.
I have a Lascal brand one, but there are a few on the market, some have 1 wheel and some 2.
@lrmum I have looked into boards a little. My son is a reasonably small kid and he just turned 2 in [name]January[/name] and we still use the pram everyday cause I walk everywhere. Sadly Bugsy is also so slow to walk with, it’s honestly so impossible to have him walk without a pram.
Maybe when he’s a bit older it might work but for now I think a pram that fits 2 might be the best option. Thanks for the advice though!
[name]Hi[/name], I can’t talk about brands (as I’m a way off having kids!), but I would definitely recommend a tandem (one kid in front of another) for a toddler and a new born. I know this is what my mum used, way back in the early 90s and she loved it. We lived in a major metropolitan city in Europe and she was able to easily get on buses and trams with it. The pram was then passed onto friends (I think it was used by two families after us!). I think we may also have had a side by side when we were a little older, and for beaches etc, but tandems are fab for city life.
[name]Hope[/name] you find something great!
