Oh, I guess I am having first trouble with my lady’s name…
My first daughter was born in [name]May[/name] and we named her [name]Cornelia[/name] [name]Hermione[/name] [name]Winter[/name]. In my opinion, it’s the most beautiful name ever…or used to be my opinion.
I spent 6 months of my pregnancy searching through the names and only found THE name the day she was born. I still adore [name]Cornelia[/name] and though we have some pronunciation issues with [name]Hermione[/name], I wouldn’t like to change it. But [name]Winter[/name]…
We picked it because it honors our relative called [name]Winn[/name] and seemed to be a modern, quirky choice to balance out [name]Cornelia[/name] [name]Hermione[/name]. Other options were [name]Winn[/name], [name]Gwendolen[/name] and [name]Winifred[/name] but after discussing with your ladies, we decided on [name]Winter[/name]. I like the sound but there are a few thing that bother me about it. First, [name]Winter[/name] doesn’t have any meaning besides being a word. I don’t really worry about meaning but maybe using a word for name sounds silly to people? Also, I recently noticed some berries describing [name]Winter[/name] as trendy and not very usable.
So please tell me, is [name]Winter[/name] that bad? I am not sure if I will change it anyway but I need to put a light on the situation. Does [name]Winter[/name] sounds awful with [name]Cornelia[/name] [name]Hermione[/name]? Should I change it to something else?
I am considering
[name]Cornelia[/name] [name]Hermione[/name] [name]Sorrel[/name]
[name]Cornelia[/name] [name]Gwendolen[/name] [name]Hermione[/name]
[name]Cornelia[/name] [name]Hermione[/name] [name]Winifred[/name]
and other ideas. Any help?
I just want to say that when I saw the birth announcement for your daughter, I absolutely swooned over it. I think you nailed it - [name]Winter[/name] does balance out the classic [name]Cornelia[/name] and whimsical [name]Hermione[/name]. I don’t think [name]Winter[/name] is trendy at all. The only names I consider trendy are those misspelled to look unique. [name]Winter[/name] may be getting more attention, but I don’t think it’s trendy.
[name]Winter[/name] rounds out the name perfectly, in my opinion. As a whole, it makes me think of your daughter as a cute little snow queen.
To me [name]Winter[/name] is beautiful. I wouldn’t second guess it. I am sure it was a beautiful name to you at the time of her birth. I like that it is a name that conjures a definite visual.
[name]Cornelia[/name] [name]Hermione[/name] [name]Winter[/name] is fine to me. The two syllable [name]Winter[/name] offsets the other two multi-syllable names. I think the middle spot is a great place to go a little wilder and use word or other guilty pleasures that may be too out there for a first name. The other names on your list are too long ([name]Gwendolen[/name]/[name]Winifred[/name]) or remind me of a horse ([name]Sorrel[/name] is a plant but also an equine coat colour). I would stick with [name]Winter[/name] because it flows beautifully.
[name]Don[/name]'t change it! [name]Cornelia[/name] [name]Hermione[/name] [name]Winter[/name], while fanciful, is stunning. Your daughter’s name is perfect. Honestly, it seems a bit pointless to go through the name change process only to change one of her middle names…
I wouldn’t change it, I think it’s gorgeous and balances out the name perfectly! [name]Winter[/name] does have meaning to you (even though it’s not the seasonal meaning). And I don’t think it’s trendy at all, [name]Winter[/name] is a quirky, fun, nature name that’s in style…in a good way. I think it’s natural to question the fn or mn after we finally decide, I did too (mn). But I think you’ll settle into the name and be very happy with it, just as I am now. I think you’ll feel better after some more positive responses, which I’m sure you’ll get
Personally, I would have just used [name]Winn[/name], but I don’t think [name]Winter[/name] is too horrible. [name]Autumn[/name] and [name]Summer[/name] are names, so why not [name]Winter[/name]? Also, my friend gave her daughter [name]Clover[/name] as a middle name, but also considered [name]Snow[/name], so it’s definitely not that out-of-the-box to use a word as a name, especially a middle name.
Frankly, I’m surprised you have pronunciation problems with [name]Hermione[/name]. I thought the [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name] movies would have taken care of that.
[name]Cornelia[/name] is stunning
[name]Hermione[/name] is breathtaking
[name]Winter[/name] is gorgeous and glitteringly enchanting. If you need to be swayed; listen to [name]Winter[/name] by [name]Tori[/name] [name]Amos[/name]. If you don’t like that one… well, everything looks more beautiful after the fresh snow has fallen. Dark star scattered skies, the cold cold air that make you breath look like smoke, sleigh rides and snow angels, lanterns and pomegranates, cranberries… hot chocolate, blankets and throws and big wooly jumpers. Need I go on?
I love it! It’s completely beautiful. [name]Don[/name]'t change it! I think sometimes us name-lovers have a hard time letting go of the search for the perfect name, even after baby is born. [name]Don[/name]'t second guess yourself. It’s a gorgeous combo.
I think [name]Cornelia[/name] [name]Hermione[/name] [name]Winter[/name] is one of the prettiest name I have heard of and [name]Winter[/name] goes just fine with two other names.
[name]Winifred[/name] isn’t very feminine for me, [name]Winn[/name] is plain and [name]Gwendolen[/name] quite fussy with [name]Hermione[/name]; so nothing can be compared to [name]Winter[/name] you see. I wouldn’t do a second guess, I love the name the way it is.
I think [name]Cornelia[/name] [name]Hermione[/name] [name]Winter[/name] is one of the most beautiful combos I’ve ever encountered! I think [name]Winter[/name] is great, not at all trendy…I’ve never met a [name]Winter[/name]. While I adore [name]Winifred[/name] and [name]Gwendolen[/name], they are just way too long with [name]Cornelia[/name] [name]Hermione[/name]. [name]Winter[/name] balances it out perfectly.
Oh [name]Lord[/name], replies! You can tell I am freaking nervous and dying to know what you berries think.
Let’s work in the order… @bluesuedeshoes22: [name]Winona[/name] is a guilty plaesure of mine, I love it, but never can talk my boyfriend into. Oh, thanks for suggestion anyway. @larkub101: aww, so glad you love [name]Nelly[/name]‘s name! I worked so hard on it - and yeah, I remember the birth announcement had a lot of views, ha ha. And as for [name]Winter[/name]…I never thought it was trendy until I read another thread where it was called “uninspiring”. I guess there were ladies talking about [name]Avalon[/name] also…But as a writer(and artist), I see “uninspiring” being even worse than “horrible” and I would never use such a name. OK, I guess I am being too dubious. @katemp91: thank you for you words, darling. When it come to doubts, there is nothing more useful than your opinions down here. @kashed22: thanks, I am glad her name is getting your love. I never thought [name]Cornelia[/name] was that rare until I used it - now it surprises everyone to be used in 2013, ha ha. @kdornfeld: thanks for your thoughts. Yeah, when [name]Nelly[/name] was born, I thought nothing can be compared to [name]Winter[/name] - I could do a full picture with my vision of the name. The thing is she actually spring born… @mischa: thank you! I guess I really was wild with both [name]Hermione[/name] and [name]Winter[/name] - even a year ago I couldn’t imagine using them in real life. I am relieved to see you finding [name]Winter[/name] finding. @southern.maple: thank you, I think [name]Nelly[/name] would be happy to understand you find her name perfect. I see it may seems stupid to change only one middle but I want the name to be as stunning as it can be so all the names count. @bellarina: thanks, I am really feeling better now. Sitting deep in your my thoughts is bad for me since I am that sensitive - but you lades really made me a relief. But you are right, I tend to question anything in life. @thatkathryngirl: I didn’t consider [name]Winn[/name] as ann option then but only do now. I wanted something more complete than just exact relative’s name. As for [name]Hermione[/name]…I guess we only get mispronounciation with people not familiar with HP but that’s rare today though still happens. @ottilie: Crazy V, yes, that’s who I am. Tottaly mad with my names, maybe lack of sleep has the effect. Thank you for reminding me of [name]Tori[/name] [name]Amos[/name] song, darling - I just felt in love with [name]Cora[/name] after listening Darlin’ [name]Cora[/name] and it’s [name]Nelly[/name]'s new nickname:) And the beginning of your story(yes, looks like the beginning of very cosy story) is breathtaking, I have no doubts now. Thank you so very much. @shieldsc: thank you, I really was surprised to see how soon I got the right combo - doesn’t look like me, ha ha. @handsallover: thanks darling, I am pleased with your words.
So my doubts have flown away by now and my darling one is [name]Cornelia[/name] [name]Hermione[/name] [name]Winter[/name] still. Thank you all lovelies for thoughts and affection.
Vics, I’m glad I helped convince you. Two other things I forgot to mention:
the [name]Shakespeare[/name] connection between [name]Hermione[/name] & [name]Winter[/name]. As I’m sure you know, as a writer and a fab person, [name]Hermione[/name] is the [name]Queen[/name] of [name]Sicily[/name] in A [name]Winter[/name]'s Tale, Although her fate is sad, she was at least a good and noble character, and the play is one of my favourites…
the name in it’s full reminds me of brave little early springtime flowers; crocuses and snowdrops fighting their way up through the snow. I think even though she’s a [name]May[/name] baby the early springtime feel fits perfectly for such a little blossom.
Oh yes, ottilie, I love Shakespearean connection between [name]Hermione[/name] and [name]Winter[/name]. I did pick [name]Hermione[/name] because of [name]Winter[/name] Tale not HP. And crocuses, snowdrops and primroses make such a lovely atmosphere, agree. As you may remember, [name]Primrose[/name] was also on my list since I felt like it’s a little winter baby despite her birth date. Thank you so much again.
