Doubting Dexter

I don’t think either of those would keep me from using the name if I liked it a lot.

This is my only association with the name. I am in the US.

I would say Poindexter is totally unusable IMO but I think [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] is perfectly nice!
I very much liked the show [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] and I don’t think it makes the name negative at all!
If it helps, my sons name is [name_u]Declan[/name_u] and I call him [name_m]Dex[/name_m] for short sometimes. [name_u]Declan[/name_u] might be an viable alternative for you to [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] if you’re having second thoughts.

For context, I’m in the US and, while I know of the show [name_u]Dexter[/name_u], I don’t think it’s an issue. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if people think of the show, they aren’t going to suddenly assume a child is or will be a serial killer just because a character on a show with the name is. I would be more far likely to think of [name_u]Dexter[/name_u]’s Laboratory, honestly, or the capuchin monkey in the [name_u]Night[/name_u] at the Museum movies since we just watched them the other night. haha Also, poindexter is a really dated insult and I really doubt any kids nowadays even know what it means. I think [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] sounds equally bookish/nerdy and mischievous, which is a cool combination. It’s not really my personal style, but I would love to meet a little [name_u]Dexter[/name_u]. Plus, [name_m]Dex[/name_m] is a cool nickname.
