Doubting some of my list...

I’ve been doubting some of the girls’ names on my short list, lately, and a few other options have become quite attractive to me! I’m just curious what you Berries think of these, and how they compare to [name]Lillian[/name]/[name]Liliana[/name] (nn [name]Lily[/name]/[name]Lila[/name]) and [name]Charlotte[/name] (nn [name]Lola[/name])–the two I’m doubting.

[name]Clara[/name]
[name]Genevieve[/name] “[name]Evie[/name]”
[name]Madeleine[/name] “[name]Leni[/name]”

Which two out of these five names do you think fits best with [name]Isabelle[/name] ([name]Bella[/name]/[name]Belle[/name]), [name]Arianne[/name] ([name]Ari[/name]), [name]Olivia[/name] ([name]Olive[/name]/[name]Liv[/name]), [name]Violet[/name], [name]Rachel[/name], [name]Daphne[/name], [name]Magda[/name], and [name]Josephine[/name] ([name]Posey[/name])?

Thanks, Berries!

[name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Liliana[/name] would be my preffered. I like [name]Clara[/name] as well, but not as much.

I like all five, ordered from most liked: [name]Clara[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Madeleine[/name], [name]Liliana[/name] & [name]Genevieve[/name].

As for the two that I think best with your other favourites: [name]Clara[/name] & [name]Charlotte[/name] (but I think they all name in your post work really well together).

This is tough! As you know, [name]Liliana[/name] was once one of my favourites. I’m not really a fan of it any more, I know popularity doesn’t bother you, but its just too common for my taste.

I like [name]Charlotte[/name] too, and used to love it, but I think there’s only space for one -t ending name on your list and I love [name]Violet[/name] a whole lot more. I just don’t like how [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Violet[/name] sound as a sib set.

[name]Clara[/name] and [name]Madeleine[/name], I love. I love them for you too, because they sound so French. I like [name]Genevieve[/name] but prefer it as a middle name. So for those reasons I’d swap [name]Liliana[/name] and [name]Charlotte[/name] for [name]Clara[/name] and [name]Madeleine[/name].

Yeah… I used to love [name]Liliana[/name] so much. But now… I don’t know. This weekend, I came across the combo [name]Liliana[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Jane[/name], and I want to love it, since it would honor all five of my grandparents, but I just can’t seem to get excited about it. I even like it as a combo, but [name]Liliana[/name]. Egh. But when I think of nixing it, I just get all sad inside. It’s so pretty and princessy, and I’ve only ever come across one. And I don’t know if coming across kids in a fast food restaurant should count, since they’re not even personal acquaintances, haha.

I’m really loving [name]Madeleine[/name] nn [name]Leni[/name] out of the blue, though! I’m seriously thinking about adding that one. I was thinking about maybe [name]Madeleine[/name] [name]Olive[/name] or [name]Madeleine[/name] [name]Zoe[/name] earlier.

[name]Ash[/name], I like most of your names- they have a classic pretty feel.

Being honest if it were me I would have [name]Isabelle[/name] ([name]Bella[/name]/[name]Belle[/name]), [name]Arianne[/name] ([name]Ari[/name]), [name]Olivia[/name] ([name]Olive[/name]/[name]Liv[/name]), [name]Violet[/name], [name]Rachel[/name], [name]Daphne[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name] ([name]Posey[/name]). Keep [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Liliana[/name] add [name]Madeleine[/name].

[name]Isabelle[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Arianne[/name] sound perfect together as they both end with a double letter and an e.

I would ditch [name]Magda[/name]- it is nowhere near as pretty and feminine in feel as your other names. [name]Clara[/name] is like [name]Magda[/name]- kind of clunky compared to your other names. [name]Genevieve[/name] “[name]Evie[/name]” would match as a mn- it seems slightly more quirky pretty rather than classic pretty (does that make sense?). [name]Liliana[/name] is pretty and so is [name]Madeleine[/name] “[name]Leni[/name]” they match well as a fn as they are known and pretty.

@[name]Emilia[/name] - I do see what you’re saying… and now that I think of it, I probably shouldn’t have both [name]Magda[/name] and [name]Madeleine[/name] on the same list, since they come from the same name, but I still really love both! I agree that [name]Magda[/name] might not fit perfectly, but I really like it with some of my options ([name]Rachel[/name], [name]Daphne[/name], [name]Josephine[/name]), and I love the association to the redemption in [name]Mary[/name] [name]Magdalene[/name]'s story in the Bible. Hmm. I still really love [name]Magda[/name], but I really love [name]Madeleine[/name] right now, too! Urgh.

I love them all!! I think the one that does not fit is [name]Rachel[/name]. It is so boring and common compared to your other names. I don’t think you can do [name]Magda[/name] and [name]Madeleine[/name] so I would only keep one of those. What about [name]Magdalene[/name]? It seems like the perfect combination of both. You could use [name]Magda[/name] and [name]Leni[/name] simultaneously as the NNs. I think it would be perfect for you, especially since you are trying to honor [name]Mary[/name] [name]Magdalene[/name]. I cannot bring myself to vote against [name]Charlotte[/name] or [name]Clara[/name] in ANY situation as you probably know haha! I think [name]Liliana[/name] and [name]Genevieve[/name] are both lovely though too and you could not go wrong with picking them either. I prefer [name]Genevieve[/name] as a MN. I think [name]Clara[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name] or [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name] would be beautiful. Are you using the zhahn-vee-ev or gen-uh-veev pronunciation. I prefer the zhan-vee-ev pronunciation if it is going to be a FN. I love the idea of [name]Liliana[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Jane[/name]! It sounds so regal and elegant and honoring all the grandparents in 1 is amazing

Good [name]Luck[/name]!

[name]Lindsay[/name],

ha. Well, [name]Rachel[/name]'s not going anywhere! She’s firmly ensconced in my top 5.

I don’t really like [name]Magdalene[/name], sorry… it sounds nice, but for some reason, [name]Madeleine[/name] and [name]Magda[/name] (and even [name]Magdalena[/name], actually) hold the hope of [name]Mary[/name] [name]Magdalene[/name], while [name]Magdalene[/name] feels like it has all the negative, sinful parts of her. I couldn’t for the life of me tell you why, lol. It just feels… heavy and dirty. It just reminds me of how I feel when I feel like I’ve really messed up and don’t feel like grace can be enough, haha. It’s probably irrational, but that’s how it is.

I think [name]Clara[/name]'s actually out… I was obsessed with it yesterday, and I absolutely adore it, but every time I seriously look at it and consider naming my daughter [name]Clara[/name], it just loses its appeal. Much as I love it, I think I’d rather have a couple friends use it so I can be surrounded by Claras. I think [name]Genevieve[/name] is out, too. I absolutely love it and the nn [name]Evie[/name], but I just don’t love it enough right now.

That leaves me with [name]Lillian[/name]/[name]Liliana[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Magda[/name], and [name]Madeleine[/name]. So, regardless, I guess I’m keeping both [name]Charlotte[/name] and a [name]Lily[/name] name, haha. I just have to decide between [name]Magda[/name] and [name]Madeleine[/name]…

Speaking of [name]Liliana[/name], what does everyone think of [name]Liliana[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Jane[/name]? At first I wasn’t sure I loved it, but it’s been growing on me a lot. And I love that it would honor all of my grandparents… I’m just not sure I’m ready to let go of [name]Liliana[/name] [name]Odette[/name]…

[name]Ash[/name], [name]Liliana[/name] was almost [name]Jude[/name]'s name had he been a girl and I am so very glad he isn’t. I fell out of love with [name]Liliana[/name] because I truly loved [name]Lillian[/name]. I was compromising with DH. So, with that said, I think [name]Lillian[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Jane[/name] is simply superb. I say it out loud and I want to say it over and over. However, I do like [name]Liliana[/name] [name]Odette[/name] more than I would [name]Lillian[/name] [name]Odette[/name].

As for the rest of the list:
[name]Lillian[/name]/[name]Liliana[/name] (nn [name]Lily[/name]/[name]Lila[/name]) - [name]Lily[/name]/[name]Lillian[/name] is probably my first name love and I love it with some of your others too much to say no.
[name]Charlotte[/name] (nn [name]Lola[/name]) - Honestly, you won me over with the nn [name]Lola[/name]. It’s almost won me over for top 2.
[name]Clara[/name] - So simple and so elegant. Oh, and the Nutcracker ballet. That’s enough for me to not say no.
[name]Genevieve[/name] “[name]Evie[/name]” - I do really like this name, but not as much as the first three. [name]Evie[/name], or [name]Vivi[/name], make me so happy as nn’s.
[name]Madeleine[/name] “[name]Leni[/name]” - I wane on my love of this name too much to put it above the other 4. I find there’s so much more to love about the other 4.

Which two out of these five names do you think fits best with [name]Isabelle[/name] ([name]Bella[/name]/[name]Belle[/name]), [name]Arianne[/name] ([name]Ari[/name]), [name]Olivia[/name] ([name]Olive[/name]/[name]Liv[/name]), [name]Violet[/name], [name]Rachel[/name], [name]Daphne[/name], [name]Magda[/name], and [name]Josephine[/name] ([name]Posey[/name])?

  • [name]Liliana[/name], [name]Clara[/name], and [name]Charlotte[/name] close behind. There are so many great names here, though, that really I’ll be sad if you don’t get to use them all, but realistically I know that’s a possibility that you won’t :).

I’d keep [name]Clara[/name] and [name]Madeleine[/name] NN [name]Leni[/name] to go with your other girls. I would say [name]Charlotte[/name], but I’m really not loving [name]Lola[/name] as a nickname. [name]Lola[/name] has lost any appeal it ever had to me.
[name]Liliana[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Jane[/name] is pretty, especially if it has special significance to you.

I like all your names, but I think [name]Rachel[/name] really sticks out like a sore thumb. She is so harsh and plain compared to the others. My favorite is [name]Charlotte[/name], but I really don’t think you could go wrong with any of them, (beside [name]Rachel[/name]).

Aww, I’m exactly the opposite. My heart has always been with [name]Liliana[/name], even before I loved [name]Lily[/name] as a nickname. I started getting bored with [name]Liliana[/name], which is why I was pushing to fall for [name]Lillian[/name], I think. I still love both, but [name]Liliana[/name]'s more my thing. I’m still not sure I’m in love with any [name]Lily[/name] name enough to keep it, but I do see myself using it much more than most of my favorites–even more than the other names I posted in this thread.

My grandmother passed away from pancreatic cancer (along with dozens of other health complications) [name]November[/name] 2010, and at her grave site, they passed out flowers to everyone at the grave-side ceremony, and I got this beautiful pink lily… [name]Lilies[/name] came to symbolize everything good about her in my life, and it feels like her last gift to me, so [name]Lily[/name] names hold a lot of meaning, which I guess is why I can’t let [name]Lily[/name]/[name]Liliana[/name]/[name]Lillian[/name] go. Sometimes it feels a bit silly, but then I remember what an amazing woman she was, and it feels so much less silly. I don’t know, I don’t love [name]Lily[/name] and [name]Liliana[/name] as much as I did several years ago, but I still really like it and the symbolism it holds. Lately I’ve been thinking about maybe using [name]Lily[/name] as a second MN… I’d open up a spot to keep a name I loved, while still keeping the symbolism of [name]Lily[/name]. I was thinking maybe [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Lily[/name] or [name]Magda[/name] [name]Juliet[/name] [name]Lily[/name] or something… Or maybe [name]Madeleine[/name] [name]Lily[/name]…

What does everyone think of [name]Liliana[/name] [name]Blythe[/name]? I think it’s a nice alternative to [name]Liliana[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] and it feels like it has more of that girly, sweet, almost frilly/princessy feel to it. More than [name]Liliana[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] does, anyway! Of course, [name]Liliana[/name] [name]Blythe[/name] [name]Jane[/name] doesn’t really work…

@lori johnson, thanks for your idea! I have considered [name]Ariadne[/name] in the past, and love it (as well as [name]Ariadna[/name] and [name]Ariana[/name], along with a million other [name]Ari[/name] names), but I don’t think I could ever swap [name]Arianne[/name] for anything else! I can’t imagine loving another [name]Ari[/name] name like I love her.

I think that [name]Clara[/name] [name]Rachel[/name], [name]Clara[/name] [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Clara[/name] [name]Madeline[/name], or [name]Clara[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] sounds divine!
