Douglas Reid - will it be associated with the negative author Douglas Reed?

We plan to call him [name]Douglas[/name] [name]Reid[/name] as a double name but without a hyphen. My Google research turned up a once famous author [name]Douglas[/name] [name]Reed[/name] who is associated with horrible anti-semitism. Would you drop [name]Douglas[/name] [name]Reid[/name] altogether as a combo? I know the spelling is different but I keep wondering if it will be difficult in school if they teach on this man.

I would never have made that connection on my own, but the fact that his name doesn’t quite “pass the Google test” may mean that it might be wise to change it a bit. I would probably change something, to be honest, especially since you plan on calling him [name]Douglas[/name] [name]Reid[/name] as a double name. It would be a different situation if [name]Reid[/name] was just a regular middle name that most people never ended up knowing. I don’t think that the author is a widely known reference, but if your son will be going around introducing himself that way for his entire life I’m sure at least a few people might make that assocation and it’s certainly an unfortunate connection.

Good point, I would hate for someone to being up “Did your parents know who [name]Douglas[/name] [name]Reed[/name] was before they named you?”.
