Down to 3... (boy version)

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all,

I’m 18 weeks with #2, and we don’t know the sex. We have a DD, [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Leah[/name_f], and our last name starts with an M, and sounds like Merit.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] posted our girl name choices over on the girl’s name board, and thought I’d get your thoughts on our boys name picks as well

We’ve narrowed our baby name list down two 3 names for each gender

Here’s the boy names:

[name_m]Abraham[/name_m]
[name_u]August[/name_u]
[name_m]Amos[/name_m]

I’d love to hear your thoughts on these names… the impressions they give you, your order from best to worst, possible downsides, etc. Middle name will definitely be [name_m]Richard[/name_m], after DH’s dad (it’s a tradition in their family for the first born son to have his dad’s first name as his middle name).

Thanks so much!

I prefer [name_u]August[/name_u] with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]. I also feel [name_m]Richard[/name_m] works best with [name_u]August[/name_u]. [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Leah[/name_f] and [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Richard[/name_m] are very nice together.

They’re all good, solid names, and they all sound fine with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and with [name_m]Richard[/name_m] as a middle. From most to least favorite…

  1. [name_u]August[/name_u]: Strikes me as definitely the handsomest of the three. Only if you call him [name_u]August[/name_u], though, I’ve never liked the nickname [name_u]Gus[/name_u]!
  2. [name_m]Abraham[/name_m]: Not as handsome as [name_u]August[/name_u] sound-wise, but distinguished and historic enough to make up.
  3. [name_m]Amos[/name_m]: For some reason this gives me the image of a big, cantankerous hillbilly dude with a huge bushy gray mustache.

I like them all, in this order: [name_m]Amos[/name_m], [name_m]Abraham[/name_m], [name_u]August[/name_u]. [name_m]Amos[/name_m] is so sweet and way underused. [name_u]August[/name_u] I like, but because of its meaning, it always strikes me as super serious - while [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] certainly does not!

I like [name_m]Abraham[/name_m] the best. [name_u]August[/name_u] is a little too old man and [name_m]Amos[/name_m] reminds me of cookies.

I like [name_u]August[/name_u] or [name_m]Amos[/name_m] with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and with [name_m]Richard[/name_m]. [name_m]Abraham[/name_m] is not modern or hip enough. [name_m]Abram[/name_m] would be better, [name_f]IMO[/name_f].

what about the name [name_m]Abram[/name_m] instead of [name_m]Abraham[/name_m]? it sounds more modern and it could still be shortened to [name_m]Abe[/name_m] as a nickname for either one if you would like.

[name_m]Amos[/name_m] and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] sounds just perfect to me! My se one pick would be [name_u]August[/name_u].

[name_m]Amos[/name_m] and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] sounds just perfect to me! My se one pick would be [name_u]August[/name_u].

[name_m]Abraham[/name_m] sounds too heavy with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] to me, but it is a nice name. I think [name_m]Amos[/name_m] and [name_u]August[/name_u] both work well with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_m]Richard[/name_m] and are wonderful, handsome names. The only drawback to either: I asked my sister what she thought of [name_m]Amos[/name_m], and she simply replied “Anus.”
