I’m hoping you guys might be able to give me some feedback. We’re going to be getting a male golden retriever puppy soon, and we’re down to 3 names. I’d like to order his dog tags this week, but we just can’t decide which name to go with. Any thoughts? [name_f]TIA[/name_f]!
I think an important thing to remember is that dog’s remember / learn their name best when it’s a 2 syllable name. [name_m]Gulliver[/name_m] & [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m] are 3, so if you go with those, I’d suggest a NN for your dog that becomes mainly what he goes by. ie. Gully. [name_m]Sherlock[/name_m] is 2 syllables so will be the easiest for your little guy to learn. I think all three names are really adorable though and you can’t go wrong! My favourite is [name_m]Gulliver[/name_m], but I worry about if your dog will have trouble learning it. I do also really like [name_m]Sherlock[/name_m] though, maybe go with [name_m]Sherlock[/name_m]! Let us know what you pick!
Side story: We went back and forth on naming my dog [name_m]Merlin[/name_m] or [name_m]Nemo[/name_m] for SO long, and literally a day before we had to pick his name, we changed our minds and went with [name_u]Ripley[/name_u], and I’m so glad we did, as I [name_f]ADORE[/name_f] his name!
My husband and I had a short list for our puppy but we didn’t settle on a name for him until we had him home for about 3 days. We wanted to try some things out and see what fit his personality. [name_m]Rooney[/name_m] was the perfect fit.
Some things you might want to consider are distinct sounds and nicknames. I think your shortlist is ok but you want to avoid anything that sounds similar to a command to avoid confusion.
Of your choices I like [name_m]Sherlock[/name_m] the best
