Down to 3!

Hello. We’re expecting baby #1 in 4 weeks. If the baby is a boy, we’re pretty set on [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Patrick[/name]. But I am so torn on girl names! I think we’ve got it narrowed to the following 3. Can you please give me your feedback, impressions, and choices to help me feel like one of these is “the one”. Our last name is [name]Young[/name] if that helps. Thank you!

[name]Iris[/name] [name]Veronica[/name]- Pros: I’ve loved this combination for many years, so I feel confident about it. I like that her initials would be [name]IVY[/name]. I think it’s quirky, smart, and attractive. Cons: I’m a little concerned about [name]Iris[/name]’ trendiness and how it sounds with [name]Young[/name]. Also, I get hung up about how well [name]Iris[/name] “flows” off the tongue for daily use.

[name]Georgia[/name] [name]Vivian[/name]- Pros: This is probably my husband’s favorite. I find it the warmest/friendliest of the bunch. I think it has great energy. Cons: When I mention this name to family I find that many family members have considered this name, which puts me off. I’m glad they all like it, but this somehow makes it feel less special and like it’s going to take off in popularity.

[name]Veronica[/name] [name]Lucille[/name]/[name]Florence[/name]- Pros: I think [name]Veronica[/name] sounds best with [name]Young[/name]. I think it’s the least trendy of the 3. I think it has a lot of presence. Cons: I’m not sure it’s quirky/distinctive enough. I’m not in love with either of these combinations and can’t find one I love. I would prefer not to use a nickname, and it definitely lends itself to unwanted nicknames.

Help!

My favourite is [name]Iris[/name] [name]Veronica[/name] [name]Young[/name] then [name]Veronica[/name] [name]Lucille[/name] [name]Young[/name]. I really love the name [name]Iris[/name]! [name]Vera[/name] [name]Lu[/name] could be a cute nn for [name]Veronica[/name] [name]Lucille[/name]?

[name]Hi[/name] teresa! Congrats! Now, on with the names… (:

I’d probably use either of the [name]Veronica[/name] combos, because you seem to like that name the most, or am I wrong? Your family doesn’t have to like a name for you to like it, right?

[name]Iris[/name] [name]Young[/name] sounds fine to me, although I do feel that [name]Veronica[/name] [name]Young[/name] sounds so much better!

I don’t personally feel like [name]Iris[/name] isn’t trendy at all. Perhaps it is, but I think it sounds very vintage and pretty.

What about [name]Veronica[/name] [name]Iris[/name] [name]Young[/name]? Sure, it wouldn’t spell out [name]IVY[/name], but it would still sound very beautiful!

If I had to choose from those 4 options, I would say [name]Iris[/name] [name]Veronica[/name], then [name]Veronica[/name] [name]Florence[/name], [name]Veronica[/name] [name]Lucille[/name] and finally [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Vivian[/name].

…I hope I helped!

[name]Iris[/name] [name]Veronica[/name] is a really beautiful combination, but I agree with your con that [name]Iris[/name] [name]Young[/name] just doesn’t sound as great. I think it’s the rhythm of the two together that doesn’t quite work.

[name]Veronica[/name] [name]Young[/name] I love. It just sounds like somebody I would want to meet and hang out with. Of the two options for mn, I’d pick [name]Lucille[/name], although I do like the suggestion of [name]Veronica[/name] [name]Iris[/name] [name]Young[/name].

I agree with the pp’s. The name [name]Veronica[/name] [name]Young[/name] just rolls off the tongue so easily, and it has a magical quality to it! My first choice would be [name]Veronica[/name] [name]Lucille[/name], then [name]Veronica[/name] [name]Iris[/name]. You could also go with [name]Veronica[/name] [name]Ivy[/name]!

I also like [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Young[/name]. I think the fact that many family members have considered it means that it may be the “right” name for you. KWIM? And [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Vivian[/name] is very pretty. [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Lucille[/name] would also be beautiful!

Thanks for the feedback so far! I am leaning towards [name]Iris[/name] or [name]Veronica[/name]. It’s tough because like you all have pointed out, [name]Veronica[/name] sounds so much better with [name]Young[/name]… but I’m partial to the “[name]Iris[/name] [name]Veronica[/name]” combo overall. I would love to use both names, but [name]Veronica[/name] [name]Iris[/name] seems to run together a bit, no? (Veroniciris?) Any other suggestions for middle names? Preferably two or more syllables.

I love [name]Veronica[/name] and agree absolutely with your overall analysis on all three names. I think [name]Iris[/name] feels trendy by virtue of the I plus the [name]Jude[/name] [name]Law[/name] daughter; I love [name]Georgia[/name] but do feel it will get increasingly popular in the years to come. My concern with [name]Veronica[/name] is that you might have to work to head off the [name]Roni[/name] nickname. Have a look at this great blog that we’re going to rerun on nameberry at some point in the next month, but you might need it now! Help My Husband Name Our Baby

Maybe you could head off [name]Roni[/name] by calling her [name]Ivy[/name]?

I love [name]Veronica[/name] but like you don’t care for any of the nicknames. Maybe call her V when you have a tendency to shorten it? V isn’t really a nickname like [name]Roni[/name] or [name]Vera[/name] would be, one that would catch on and supplant her actual name. It’s just an endearment really but makes [name]Veronica[/name] more liveable to me.

I vote [name]Iris[/name] [name]Veronica[/name] [name]Young[/name]

or [name]Iris[/name] [name]Vivian[/name] [name]Young[/name] (hope that doesn’t throw another possibility out there but I like it too)

Since you’re not sure you like [name]Veronica[/name] [name]Iris[/name], what about [name]Veronica[/name] [name]Irene[/name]? I think the long vowel sound at the end is nicer than the short ‘is’ in [name]Iris[/name].

Congrats! Now, if I were you, I would not consider [name]Veronica[/name] as a 1st name choice, because you seem to be sort of… ‘eh’ about it, you don’t love, you don’t hate it. So rule out that one.

[name]Iris[/name] [name]Veronica[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name] it! the intials are cute, and [name]Iris[/name] isn’t extremely popular. I would use this one. I picture a black haired poet when I think of this. Not a bad image at all, but if it isn’t what you’re going for, then consider another name. I don’t think that [name]Iris[/name] has that many flow probeloms, it may seem harsh when you say it, but I think it will grow well on her.

[name]Georgia[/name] [name]Vivian[/name] - CUTE! [name]Georgia[/name] isn’t wildly popular, but it isn’t unheard of, either. [name]Georgia[/name] has several possible nn, like [name]Georgie[/name], [name]Gia[/name], and [name]Oria[/name]. I’m sure you can find several more options. When I here [name]Georgia[/name], I think of a bouncy, bubbly, blonde soccer player. Once again, it’s not a bad image, but also might be the opposite of what you were looking for. [name]Georgia[/name] doesn’t grow very well in my mind, but you may or may not feel differently

[name]Just[/name] my 2 cents. Good [name]Luck[/name]!!

[name]Iris[/name] [name]Veronica[/name]!

As opposed to many other posters here, I don’t like [name]Veronica[/name]. It reminds me of the rich snobby [name]Veronica[/name] character from the [name]Archie[/name] comics I used to read as a kid.

I do like [name]Iris[/name] [name]Vivian[/name] (or [name]Vivienne[/name]) [name]Young[/name]. I feel like this is a beautiful combination that will age well with your daughter.

Best of luck!

[name]Veronica[/name] [name]Lucille[/name] made my heart swoon! It’s absolutely gorgeous, and would be my pick from your list. Second would be [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Vivian[/name]. I have a hard time saying [name]Iris[/name] [name]Veronica[/name] for some reason. I think it’s the s leading into the v.

[name]Iris[/name] is one of my favourite names, so I’m partial to [name]Iris[/name] [name]Veronica[/name]. But [name]Veronica[/name] [name]Young[/name] really does role off the tongue beautifully! It’s a hard choice! They are all lovely combinations. I would be torn between [name]Iris[/name] [name]Veronica[/name] and [name]Veronica[/name] [name]Lucille[/name], myself.

Is [name]Iris[/name] trendy? I know sisters named [name]Iris[/name] and [name]Esther[/name], both in their 40’s, and I have wondered if it has been hard for them to have what were considered old lady names when I was growing up. I’m in my 50’s.

I like [name]Vivian[/name] best of your choices. [name]Vivian[/name] [name]Young[/name] looks and sounds great to me, although [name]Veronica[/name] is also good with [name]Young[/name]. To me, [name]Vivian[/name] is more feminine and would wear better over time.

I like [name]Georgia[/name], because of O’[name]Keeffe[/name], but I’m afraid that “W” has ruined it for me.

I like [name]Luci[/name], but don’t like [name]Lucille[/name] at all. [name]Luci[/name] [name]Iris[/name] or [name]Lucia[/name] [name]Iris[/name]?

When I say [name]Iris[/name] [name]Young[/name] it sort of sounds like “I was young”. I don’t think it goes together that well.

I like [name]Lucy[/name] [name]Young[/name] better or [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Young[/name]. [name]Veronica[/name] still reminds me of comic books I’m afraid.

My vote goes to [name]Iris[/name] [name]Veronica[/name] [name]Young[/name]! I love all three choices, but this one jumped out at me (love [name]IVY[/name], too!); such a pretty, but unexpected combo.

NameGoddess

I love all your names!

If my baby-in-the-belly was a girl (it’s a boy), it would have been [name]Iris[/name]. With my #2, if he was a she it would have been [name]Veronica[/name]!

I think [name]Iris[/name] is only growing in popularity on name-nerd sites like this one! I don’t think, in the real world, you have to worry too much about it.
