Down to 4 names, just a few days to go

I posted a few months ago. We’re not sure what our baby is and we need to choose a boy’s name. I thought we would lean towards Biblical names, but it turns out that short “old man” names seem to work better with my husband’s 3 syllable last name (starting with B).

I apologize that these may be pretty cliche to some of you nameberries. My husband nixed all my more original names and we don’t want anything you need to spell because the child will also have to spell the last name.

So here’s our list. We’re due in 2 weeks so we really need help narrowing it down.

[name]Max[/name]
[name]Jack[/name]
[name]Leo[/name]
[name]Jonah[/name]

Middle name would probably be [name]Henry[/name], but I don’t think middle names are that important because they are rarely used. [name]Henry[/name] is a good all-purpose middle name anyway.

Thank you!

  1. [name]Leo[/name] - This is my favorite name, so I’m voting for him! I think it sounds great with what I’m imagining as your last name! Also, I think it’s the most distinctive of the names on your list.
  2. [name]Max[/name] - I love [name]Max[/name], but love [name]Leo[/name] more. I think you’d be surprised how many little Maxes there are.
  3. [name]Jack[/name] - [name]Jack[/name] is a very nice, solid name that would serve a boy well through his life. I can’t say a single bad thing about it, but it doesn’t excite me, either.
  4. [name]Jonah[/name] - This is the only one that I’m really not fond of. I also don’t really like it with your imaginary last name.

[name]Jack[/name] [name]Henry[/name] is my favorite! One other idea–have you thought about [name]Sam[/name] [name]Henry[/name]?

[name]Jonah[/name] is my favorite name on your list but I think the H at the end of it combines a bit with the H at the beginning of [name]Henry[/name]. If you don’t plan to use the middle name much though then that may not be a concern. [name]Leo[/name] [name]Henry[/name] is my second favorite. I’ve given you the imaginary last name of Billaveau (to try the names out with) and they both sound pretty good with that I think, but I have no idea if they work with your real last name. Good luck with you decision.

[name]Leo[/name] [name]Henry[/name] is my favorite…

Thank you! I always thought that I’d love [name]Jonah[/name], but I just don’t anymore. I’m more stuck on the [name]Max[/name], [name]Jack[/name], [name]Leo[/name]. So I’m almost ready to eliminate it.

Here are my thoughts:

[name]Max[/name] - common in our social circle (we’re Jewish), but something classic and appealing about it.

[name]Jack[/name] - definitely common, possibly even more common than [name]Max[/name]. [name]Don[/name]'t like all the plays on words for [name]Jack[/name]. But [name]Jack[/name] is a “cool” guy - [name]Jack[/name] [name]Bauer[/name] anyone?

[name]Leo[/name] - I like [name]Leo[/name], though not a lion or astrology person. One way to pronounce the last names ends in O (though it’s an OW), so it might be a little rhyming for the last name. Like that it’s less popular than the others.

We’ve eliminated [name]Sam[/name], [name]Jake[/name], [name]Asher[/name], [name]Ari[/name], [name]Noah[/name], [name]Daniel[/name], [name]Benjamin[/name], [name]Avi[/name], [name]Ike[/name], and similar.

Thanks again!

Flow wise I would pick [name]Jack[/name] [name]Henry[/name],
BUT my favourite is [name]Leo[/name]!
And I agree that although middle names are there, they are rarily used…so I’d go with [name]Leo[/name]

Good luck

[name]Hi[/name]!

[name]Leo[/name]: I love [name]Leo[/name] so much, but from what you say, it may not be the best with your last name. I think that [name]Leo[/name] [name]Henry[/name] is very handsome!

[name]Max[/name]: I think [name]Max[/name] is a great name, too, but I just love [name]Leo[/name] more.

[name]Jack[/name]: I love [name]Jack[/name], too, and totally love [name]Jack[/name] [name]Henry[/name]!

I’ll vote for [name]Jack[/name] [name]Henry[/name], with [name]Leo[/name] in second place, only because of your last name.

Great list!

Take care!

You can’t go wrong with [name]Jack[/name]. It’s popular because it’s a good name, and it always will be. Personally, I’m a fan of using it as a nn for [name]John[/name], but either way it’s a classic that sounds good with all last names. My favorite on your list.

I’d choose [name]Max[/name] second. A bit trendier than [name]Jack[/name], even if it’s not as popular, but I have always been a fan of the style. I like the old-timey, disheveled feel - [name]Max[/name], [name]Gus[/name], [name]Sid[/name], [name]Art[/name], [name]Hal[/name] - all have that feel and despite the trendiness, I think [name]Max[/name] is a likable name that will hold up over time.

[name]Leo[/name] is third for me. It’s one of those names I feel like I should like, but am at best iffy on it. It looks like such a simple name, but the dramatic vowel shift ee-oo makes it seem more elaborate than it should. I feel the same way about [name]Eli[/name].

I’m not really a fan of [name]Jonah[/name]. Too soft, and too '90s. Give me a [name]Jack[/name] or a [name]Max[/name] over [name]Jonah[/name] any day.
