We are due in [name_u]June[/name_u] with our first baby, a boy:). My husband and I have very different styles, but we managed to come home with a compromise top 5 after hours of looking over lists and talking names. We want something a little off the beaten track, and mature with relaxed nickname potential. He doesn’t like anything vintage, but that’s all I really like.
Here is our list. What are your thoughts?

I am in love with the first three names! But from your standards, I think I’d have to go with either [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] or [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]! [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] is effortlessly elegant and charming, yet still managing to sound soft. [name_m]Des[/name_m] would be such a cool nickname to go by! [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m], on the other hand, is warmer and gentler, and the nickname ‘[name_m]Shep[/name_m]’ is very pleasant and friendly.
I like [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_u]Jude[/name_u]. I’ve got a real soft spot for [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and especially the nn [name_m]Shep[/name_m], I think it’s so friendly and wise. Would using [name_m]Judah[/name_m] as a full name and [name_u]Jude[/name_u] as the nn make your OH like it more? [name_m]Shep[/name_m] and [name_u]Jude[/name_u] sound like such cool little brothers…
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m] is my favourite and the nickname [name_m]Des[/name_m] or [name_u]Desi[/name_u] is intuitive, would be easy to wear, or effortless, as pp put it. I also like that it is meaningful to your family.
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m]! It’s super charming and elegant and it comes with the edgy nickname, [name_m]Des[/name_m]. I think [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] is a perfect name.
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m] is perfect, in case you couldn’t tell how I feel about it. When I was pregnant with my daughter, it was my #1 for a boy. I love how familiar it feels, without being common at all. I’ve never met a child named [name_m]Desmond[/name_m], and I’m an elementary school teacher. I think it fits all of your criteria.
I also quite like [name_u]Jude[/name_u] and [name_m]Declan[/name_m] from your list.
[name_m]Declan[/name_m]-This is one of my nephew’s names. I think it’s great. Simple to say, grows up well, sporty but not jocky. The nn [name_m]Dex[/name_m] is really fun too. I do think that [name_m]Declan[/name_m] is getting fairly popular though, if that’s a concern for you.
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m]-This seems like a great alternative to [name_m]Declan[/name_m]. It’s still simple and heard, but not nearly as over done. You can still do [name_m]Dex[/name_m] too.
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]-This is not my personal favorite, but it’s kind of cool. Certainly unique, but not weird.
[name_u]Jude[/name_u]-I love this. I love it more as a nn for [name_m]Julian[/name_m] (or [name_m]Julius[/name_m]). It’s really handsome and gentle sounding.
[name_m]Rockwell[/name_m]-This would be cool for a mn, but ‘[name_m]Rocky[/name_m]’ is just too Bulldog sounding for me.
If your husband doesn’t love [name_u]Jude[/name_u], I would take it off the list. I am not feeling [name_m]Rockwell[/name_m], probably because I don’t like any of the nickname possibilities.
[name_m]Declan[/name_m], [name_m]Desmond[/name_m], and [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] are all great names, and they seem to bridge you and your husband’s styles. I would choose between these three. (Also, for what it’s worth, they would make great brother names for any babies down the line.)
I prefer [name_m]Declan[/name_m] and [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]! [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] has a nice sound but I realized that it has all the letters in the word “demon” in it, in order, and it just bothers me
I like [name_u]Jude[/name_u] and [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] the best. They are both friendly and cool-kid. [name_m]Rockwell[/name_m] is intriguing too. And growing on me. Rockstar, Rocks, [name_m]Wells[/name_m]… on it’s own, [name_m]Rockwell[/name_m] feels upright and stately, but those nicknames make it super approachable and fun. NAF of [name_m]Declan[/name_m] or [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] but I think that’s me and not the names.
