My wife and I are down to 5 names for our first child. She’s a teacher and says we’re not allowed to choose the name of any student, past or present so there are some unique names. Middle name will probably be [name_m]Scott[/name_m]. I’d love to hear your honest opinions, good or bad. Thanks!
[name_m]Truman[/name_m] is my youngest’s name so I’m biased. But, I adore it and am so happy we chose it. It’s such a fun but also distinguished choice. Everyone is familiar with it it yet nobody seems to know anyone else with the name.
[name_m]Calloway[/name_m] is handsome. A bit pretentious. I’m picturing a teenage boy in prep school.
I’m not sure I’ve ever encountered [name_m]Cordell[/name_m] before. I like it. It’s different but not weird. I think it’s versatile. I can see it on a jock, on an academic, on a hippie.
[name_m]Frazier[/name_m] I like. My problem with the name is it’s multiple acceptable spellings. Doesn’t bother lots of people but I personally prefer when people hear my kid’s name they know how to spell it.
Hawkins is not my style. Reminds me of [name_m]Stephen[/name_m] Hawking, which isn’t a bad thing. [name_m]Hawk[/name_m] is a cool nickname. I think this one has the most cool vibe based in that first syllable.
Good luck!
With [name_m]Scott[/name_m] as a middle name, definitely my favorite is [name_m]Frazier[/name_m]. [name_m]Frazier[/name_m] [name_m]Scott[/name_m] has the best flow of your options, imo. My second favorite for you is [name_m]Truman[/name_m]. I love [name_m]Calloway[/name_m] (my son’s middle name), and for what it’s worth I don’t think it sounds pretentious at all, I see it as more jaunty and outdoorsy. But [name_m]Calloway[/name_m] [name_m]Scott[/name_m] isn’t my favorite, [name_m]Scott[/name_m] sounds too abrupt after [name_m]Calloway[/name_m] to my ear. Not a fan of [name_m]Cordell[/name_m] or Hawkins, if I am honest.
[name_m]Truman[/name_m] is definitely my favourite of the list! It is eternally handsome and comes with some pretty great nickname options. [name_u]Love[/name_u] the association with The [name_m]Truman[/name_m] Show, as well. Very sweet on any age!
I like [name_m]Galloway[/name_m] best, then [name_m]Trueman[/name_m] … I had a toy dog [name_m]Frazier[/name_m] as a child but now I think of [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] [name_m]Frazier[/name_m] from outlander so I think it’s very usable and will probably be more common these next few years. I get not wanting to use a name of a child you know… Sometimes I cross a whole list off because I just want to use a name the [name_m]JUST[/name_m] my child. [name_m]Galloway[/name_m] and [name_m]Trueman[/name_m] have the options of Call & [name_u]True[/name_u] which I really like too!
I’m not too fond of the president [name_m]Truman[/name_m] association, but I do love his name and it honestly first brings to mind [name_m]Jim[/name_m] [name_u]Carey[/name_u]'s golden age of cinema with the film “The [name_m]Truman[/name_m] Show”. They don’t make movies like that anymore! I think [name_m]Truman[/name_m] has a lot going for it: The cute nickname [name_m]Tru[/name_m], the virtuous meaning of “true man”, historical cred, the unique-yet-familiar advantage and it also has (to me) an adorable bow-tie nerdy vibe (think [name_m]Young[/name_m] [name_u]Sheldon[/name_u]). By far it’s my favorite from your list!
[name_m]Calloway[/name_m] - Second favorite from your list
[name_m]Cordell[/name_m] - not sure which syllable to stress, and to be frank I don’t like it either way
[name_m]Frazier[/name_m] - doesn’t sound like a name to me, and there will probably be spelling and pronunciation confusion
[name_m]Truman[/name_m] - I like it, it’s my favorite from your list
Hawkins - cool in theory (and maybe in practice) but it just doesn’t sound like a name to me, sorry
I love [name_m]Calloway[/name_m]! Such a good flowy sound, very handsome
The others don’t stand out to me the same. Hawkins just looks like a surname to me.
[name_m]Cordell[/name_m] would be my least favourite.
[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_m]Truett[/name_m]/ Truitt?
[name_m]Calloway[/name_m] is probably my favourite. Hawkins is nice, but doesn’t really flow with [name_m]Scott[/name_m], but I think the other names all flow reasonably well.
[name_m]Truman[/name_m] is my favorite from your list! Simple, straightforward, familiar, yet rather unusual and likely to be the only one you know. I also like [name_m]Calloway[/name_m], and I love the nickname [name_u]Cal[/name_u].
For some reason, [name_m]Cordell[/name_m] sounds very mid-century to me? A little clunky, not quite ready for revival. I like [name_m]Frazier[/name_m] but I would never remember how to spell it correctly ([name_m]Frasier[/name_m]? [name_m]Fraser[/name_m]? [name_m]Frazer[/name_m]?). I like Hawkins quite a lot but I think Hawkins [name_m]Scott[/name_m] sounds tongue-twistery with those two S’s running into each other.
[name_m]Calloway[/name_m] is definitely my favorite. I love the lilting syllables and the open vowels at the end. [name_m]Calloway[/name_m] [name_m]Scott[/name_m] is a great combo!
My favourite is [name_m]Calloway[/name_m]. I just like the sound.
[name_m]Frazier[/name_m] I prefer spelled [name_m]Frazer[/name_m]. Easier for people to pronounce, that way.
[name_m]Truman[/name_m], Hawkins and [name_m]Cordell[/name_m] really don’t appeal to me at all. I think this is because I’m English and they’re very American-sounding name choices? Hard to explain! Maybe I don’t ‘get it’?
[name_m]Calloway[/name_m] [name_m]Scott[/name_m] “[name_u]Cal[/name_u]” is amazing
I’d go with [name_m]Calloway[/name_m] because it’s the most versatile name from your list. It has a bit of a prep school sound to it, but the nickname “[name_u]Cal[/name_u]” is down-to-earth and friendly and it has a nice, soft flow. [name_m]Truman[/name_m] is adorable but seems very well-suited for one particular type of personality – i.e. a bit precocious – and a little bit of an odd match for others.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Calloway[/name_m] and Hawkins! [name_m]Calloway[/name_m] [name_m]Scott[/name_m] is an amazing combo.
[name_m]Truman[/name_m] and [name_m]Frazier[/name_m] feel like middle-aged men (I think because I so strongly associate the names to old tv shows), and [name_m]Cordell[/name_m] seems a little feminine to me as it looks very similar to [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f].
