Both names are gorgeous! It was very hard to pick.
That said I went for [name_m]Edwin[/name_m] since I prefer [name_m]Eddy[/name_m] and [name_u]Win[/name_u] (and all the other potentinal nicknames like [name_m]Ned[/name_m] and [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]) to [name_u]Wally[/name_u] and [name_m]Walt[/name_m].
I voted [name_m]Edwin[/name_m]. I’m getting the sense from your OP that it’s your favourite of the two, objectively speaking (I might be wrong, though!) I don’t find it nerdy or stuffy, and the potential nickname [name_u]Win[/name_u] manages to be cute, cool and quirky all at the same time, which is no mean feat!
[name_m]Walter[/name_m] is great too (I especially love [name_m]Walt[/name_m], which ticks the same boxes), but the extended family member with the same name might be the deciding factor for me, if I was trying to narrow down my options. It’s certainly not a deal-breaker, but it might feel a little awkward, and might cause some family tension if people take it the wrong way (though not all families get het up about stuff like this).
In short, you can’t go wrong here in terms of style, but [name_m]Edwin[/name_m] seems both a little less problematic, and possibly a little closer to your heart?
I’m in the camp that really likes [name_m]Walter[/name_m] but not so much [name_m]Walt[/name_m]. [name_m]Walt[/name_m] actually sounds MORE harsh to me lol. But I love nn [name_u]Wally[/name_u]. I’d love to meet a baby [name_u]Wally[/name_u]. However, the deciding factor for me was the relative of same name/the awkwardness of dealing with the assumptions you named the baby after him. Other people might easily overcome this but it would be the dealbreaker for me.
So I voted for [name_m]Edwin[/name_m]. I think a cool, sweet, funny little boy could totally bring this name into modernity. And [name_m]Edwin[/name_m] [name_m]John[/name_m] nn E.J. is really cute. So that’s my vote.
[name_m]Edwin[/name_m] is beautiful! I don’t find it stuffy in the least. I think it’d pair really well with [name_f]Delphine[/name_f], were you to have a boy now and a girl later.
I voted for [name_m]Walter[/name_m] before reading the post, but would have gone for [name_m]Edwin[/name_m] after reading!
I love both names but I would have voted for [name_m]Walter[/name_m] if it wasn’t for your stepmother’s father having that name, and the awkwardness that may cause!! [name_m]Edwin[/name_m] is lovely, and [name_u]Win[/name_u] as a nickname is so cool - not nerdy/stuffy at all!
My vote went to [name_m]Edwin[/name_m] with much of the same feelings as previous posters about [name_m]Walter[/name_m]. The simple fact that it’s the name of a relative that you see fairly often would definitely sway my mind towards [name_m]Edwin[/name_m]. While I love [name_m]Walter[/name_m] (nn [name_m]Walt[/name_m] // Waltz would be cute), I just wouldn’t want to consider it with knowing someone who could interpret it as honoring.
[name_m]Edwin[/name_m] I think regardless would be my pick, nn [name_u]Win[/name_u] just seals the deal and I feel like lessens the “stuffiness” of the name. I feel like also -in/en names are pretty fashionable so it fits and feels a bit more “on-trend” instead of stuffy.
That’s a really hard choice. However, I went for [name_m]Edwin[/name_m], since it has the same cute/quirky vibe to it as [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] (encase you use that name down the road).
On a side note, I think [name_m]Walter[/name_m] [name_m]John[/name_m] flows really nice together.
I personally like [name_m]Walter[/name_m] better, however, I think that [name_m]Edwin[/name_m] works better for you!
I love both names. I prefer [name_m]Edwin[/name_m] by just a bit, but I know a 4 year old named [name_m]Walter[/name_m] and it is also darling. Already having a [name_m]Walter[/name_m] somewhat in the family would probably rule it out for me though.
I don’t find [name_m]Edwin[/name_m] at all nerdy or stuffy. I think its sophisticated but also friendly and approachable.
