[name_f]Emmaline[/name_f]

But i really like [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] which isn’t on your list.

Gosh, both of these are beautiful names! You guys have great taste!! But between the two, [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] is my favorite, simply because when I hear [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], I immediately think of the [name_m]French[/name_m] film which made it so popular. But honestly, you can’t go wrong with either choice. And, I prefer the way you pronounce [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] as well! Furthermore, I think the nickname, [name_f]Millie[/name_f], is just so sweet!! What are you planning for her middle name?

I honestly love both. [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] feels very [name_m]French[/name_m] to me, so I’ve never considered using it myself (which doesn’t really make sense given other names on my list), but I love it. [name_f]Millie[/name_f] is definitely an intuitive nickname.

[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] is also a favorite of mine (though I say emma-line). I think if you establish her nickname as [name_f]Millie[/name_f], no one is going to challenge that. She/you can introduce her as ‘[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], or ‘[name_f]Millie[/name_f]’ for short’.

Another option is [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], which may be too close to [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] for you, but definitely works with [name_f]Millie[/name_f]. And feels somewhat like a middle ground between [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] and [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f].

1 [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] - chic, sophisticated, lush, romantic and medieval in vibe (this is my favourite). I’m happy to hear that you’re pronouncing it the correct way - “leen”.
2 [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] - sweet, dainty, girly. I actually prefer [name_f]Amalie[/name_f]. I think there a better [name_m]French[/name_m] names out there.
3 [name_f]Millie[/name_f] - I think [name_f]Millie[/name_f] is a cute nn but I personally wouldn’t want it for a full name myself.

I love both, but prefer [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]. It’s unusual, but familiar. [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is just like [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], which unfortunately already strikes me as overused.

I adore [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], and have never been a huge fan of [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f].

In reference to your concerns, I see [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] being shortened to [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Em[/name_f], or [name_f]Emme[/name_f]/[name_f]Emmy[/name_f] much more often than [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] being mistaken as [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. They don’t sound very much like each other at all, and the only thing I can see it being mistaken as is possibly [name_f]Emily[/name_f], particularly if she goes by [name_f]Millie[/name_f].
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] sounds much more sophisticated to me. It’s whimsical and sweet for a little girl, pretty for a young lady, and will eventually work in the workplace. [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] sounds very little farmer girl with pigtails and gingham, imo. I can’t imagine [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] Lastname, J.D., living in an apartment building in [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_m]York[/name_m] City. I guess maybe because the only Emmelines I know are country as opposed to city mice, and all of them live in the States? [name_f]Millie[/name_f], too, sounds like a little girl’s name. It needs more backup, I’m afraid.

Also, I’d definitely expect mispronunciations with [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]. Most people I’ve seen pronounce it like emma-lynn.

Ooooh… I actually like your DH’s suggestion of [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. But [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is beautiful too!! One thing that immediately comes to mind for me when I say “[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]” aloud is the little girl [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] from the [name_m]Clifford[/name_m] The Big [name_u]Red[/name_u] Dog books. Nevertheless, I do like the name combination though. As I said before… great taste. I’ve got my fingers x’d for [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]!! Good luck!!!

I prefer [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] and would pronounce it just as you do. [name_f]Millie[/name_f], [name_f]IMO[/name_f] is just too much of a nn for me. I knew an [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Millie[/name_f] with blonde hair and blue eyes…however I picture a little [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] with light brown hair and gorgeous hazel/brown eyes. She is lively and loves learning new things. I like to think of her siblings with Biblical/vintage names such as [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] and [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] or something like [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] although the endings are a little similar.
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] is also nice but NMS. I think both names would age well, probably [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] more-so lol but I think it’s just because I love that name. Good luck!!

I would lean towards [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]. It’s such a beautiful, unique name. I think my aversion to [name_f]Emmaline[/name_f] comes from the over use of [name_f]Emma[/name_f], where I’m from.

I think [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is beautiful.

[name_f]Susan[/name_f]

I think both names are lovely (not at all my taste). Have you considered how annoying it is going to be for you and your child to have to correct people about how to pronounce her name for her entire life? I would strongly consider using the phonetic spelling of the name you want. It seems like you are trying to just be different for differents sake(like so many people on this site) and it is seriously going to be an annoyance for you kid. Personally, I hate the name [name_f]Millie[/name_f] (I knew girl named [name_f]Millie[/name_f] growing up that I didn’t like and I just think it is an ugly name) but it is obvious you both have a lot of attachment to it since it seems like you are picking the first name to use that NN. Under those circumstances I would highly suggest just using [name_f]Millie[/name_f].

I really love [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]. I suggested it to my DH and he accused me of making it up. I just read a book with a main character called [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]. “The House at Riverton” is similar to Downton [name_u]Abbey[/name_u] in time frame and general premise, but much sadder. I should know better than to read such things while pregnant.

[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is also beautiful, but so tied to the movie.

Edited for privacy.

I prefer [name_f]Emmaline[/name_f]. I don’t think the “leen”/“line” pronunciation will be a problem because to be honest, I pronounce it both ways randomly…if I met someone with the name, I would probably just pronounce it the way they do. I think a lot of people feel that way.

I also like [name_f]Emmaline[/name_f] in that there are many, many possible nicknames for it. You will be using [name_f]Millie[/name_f], but if she so desires someday, she could also easily identify as [name_f]Lina[/name_f], [name_f]Em[/name_f], [name_f]Emmi[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f], etc. It’s likely she would stick with [name_f]Millie[/name_f], but it is nice to have an option! With my name, there really isn’t any wiggle room ([name_f]Sara[/name_f]), and while I do think it fits me very well, it was annoying as a child when everyone else would go by different nicknames (for some reason it was popular to keep changing this every two years or so in elementary school).
