I’ve posted before but we are still agonizing over names here. My husband worries a lot about unusual names and teasing, so I think it helps him to see others weigh in and ensure that I’m not crazy… or maybe I am Here is our list, although we do not agree on which are the top picks. We have a two year old named [name]Wyatt[/name] and our last name is as common as it comes, 5 letters and starts with an ‘s’.
[name]Ruby[/name] [name]Alice[/name] is my personal favorite. I like [name]Marlowe[/name] (though I intensely dislike [name]Lola[/name]) and can appreciate [name]Hazel[/name]; [name]Mabel[/name] and [name]Fiona[/name] are not really my style, but the only one I really actively dislike is [name]Luella[/name].
Actually, I’m a little surprised at how passionately I dislike it, as that’s pretty uncommon for me. With all due respect and no offense intended whatsoever, the image it conjures with me is very - apologies for the inelegant description - trailer trash/hillbilly. I can’t stand [name]Lulu[/name] for similar reasons. It might be cute on a newborn, but a name like that would make elementary school very rough, and adolescence rougher. I might trust Lulu to do my manicure, but I’d think twice about having her do my taxes or my appendectomy if there were a Ruby or a Mabel on staff. I also think it pairs the poorest with [name]Wyatt[/name] of your choices.
Sorry if that sounds harsh - I don’t mean it to. Like I said, I’m surprised by my own vehemence. As a kid who got teased, I hate seeing opportunities for kids to get teased, and I see it all over the place here.
[name]Wyatt[/name] is distinctly cowboy/Western for me, so I think his sister needs a name with that same feel. [name]Luella[/name], [name]Mabel[/name], and [name]Hazel[/name] fit the bill. I’m leaning toward [name]Mabel[/name] or [name]Hazel[/name]. [name]Wyatt[/name] and [name]Hazel[/name] feels a bit more hipster than cowboy/cowgirl, so I’ll put in a vote for [name]Mabel[/name]. [name]Mabel[/name] [name]Alice[/name] is very pretty.
I’m going to vote for [name]Fiona[/name]! [name]Wyatt[/name] is so rugged and masculine, that I think you want to pair it with something distinctly feminine.
I really like [name]Ruby[/name], [name]Fiona[/name], [name]Mabel[/name], and [name]Hazel[/name] as first names.
I like these the best
[name]Wyatt[/name] and [name]Mabel[/name] [name]Alice[/name]
[name]Wyatt[/name] and [name]Hazel[/name] [name]Alice[/name]
[name]Wyatt[/name] and [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Alice[/name]
I think [name]Wyatt[/name] and [name]Ruby[/name] is my absolute favorite.
[name]Luella[/name] [name]Ray[/name] and [name]Mabel[/name] [name]Alice[/name] are amazing! [name]Luella[/name] and [name]Mabel[/name] are definitely ready for a comeback - they are so vintage chic in my opinion! I like [name]Fiona[/name] as well, but I think that [name]Luella[/name] and [name]Mabel[/name] are a bit more exciting right now and go a bit better with [name]Wyatt[/name].
I really love [name]Luella[/name] [name]Ray[/name]! I think [name]Lulu[/name] is adorable, and I love seeing [name]Luella[/name]! It’s an underappreciated gem, and [name]Wyatt[/name] and [name]Lulu[/name] are too cute together! I really quite love [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Alice[/name] and [name]Hazel[/name] [name]Alice[/name], as well, and I love the idea of [name]Marlowe[/name] nn [name]Lola[/name]. And [name]Fiona[/name] [name]Ray[/name] is pretty adorable, too. So pretty much, I just love your list. I think [name]Luella[/name] or [name]Ruby[/name] would get my vote, though–they just have a bit more edge for me.
[name]Marlowe[/name] or [name]Ruby[/name] would be my pick with [name]Wyatt[/name]. [name]Luella[/name] is nice with lots of nn potential too. I want to love [name]Hazel[/name]- I just don’t, and with [name]Wyatt[/name] it doesn’t sound perfect to me.
Thanks so much - always good to hear the opinions (although each one pulls me in a different direction!). Times like this I wish at least one of us was decisive.
[name]Luella[/name] [name]Ray[/name] ([name]Lulu[/name]) - don’t love this one
[name]Ruby[/name] [name]Alice[/name] - I like [name]Alice[/name] a lot more than [name]Ruby[/name], but [name]Ruby[/name] is okay
[name]Fiona[/name] [name]Ray[/name] - I know a [name]Fiona[/name], and the name is cute right now (she’s 3), but I’m not sure it will age well. I like it okay though
[name]Marlowe[/name] [name]Alice[/name] ([name]Lola[/name]) - [name]Marlowe[/name] is cute, but I don’t like [name]Lola[/name], I prefer [name]Marlee[/name] as a nn
[name]Mabel[/name] [name]Alice[/name] ([name]Mae[/name]) - sounds like an old lady name to me
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Alice[/name] - same as [name]Mabel[/name]
[name]Fiona[/name] [name]Ray[/name] or [name]Luella[/name] [name]Ray[/name]… the other combos are all 2 syllable/2 syllable and I don’t think they flow as well as these 3/1 combos…
[name]Ruby[/name] [name]Ray[/name] could be cute too! Or [name]Fiona[/name] [name]Alice[/name] or [name]Luella[/name] [name]Alice[/name]… It just needs to have more variety of syllables…
[name]Luella[/name] [name]Ray[/name] ([name]Lulu[/name])- I like [name]Luella[/name] but not the nn [name]Lulu[/name]. I think [name]Luella[/name] [name]Ray[/name] goes very nice together [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Alice[/name]- I like [name]Ruby[/name] and [name]Alice[/name] but [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Alice[/name] together doesn’t really sound smooth to my ear. Maybe [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Fiona[/name], or [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Marlowe[/name]? [name]Fiona[/name] [name]Ray[/name]- I really like [name]Fiona[/name] and I think it’s very pretty, and [name]Ray[/name] goes well with it. Nice pick. [name]Marlowe[/name] [name]Alice[/name] ([name]Lola[/name])- I’m personally not a fan of [name]Marlowe[/name] and [name]Alice[/name] together, it sounds harsh. I really like [name]Marlowe[/name] [name]Luella[/name]. [name]Mabel[/name] [name]Alice[/name] ([name]Mae[/name])- Again, sounds harsh. [name]Hazel[/name] [name]Alice[/name]- Still harsh to my ear.
