[name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] [name_u]Reese[/name_u] is an excellent choice. [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] gives you a legitimate lyn name. It also gives you a familiar, yet uncommon name. It’s feminine without being frou frou. It’s a really beautiful, fantastic name!
[name_f]Ava[/name_f]-[name_u]Reese[/name_u] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] got my vote! I absolutely adore [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], and while I didn’t used to be a fan of the name [name_u]Reese[/name_u] on a girl, I read a novella once with a [name_u]Reese[/name_u] in it, and she totally made me love the name. I probably wouldn’t ever use it (I have a unisex name and hate it), but it’s lovely, and I love the balance of [name_f]Ava[/name_f], [name_u]Reese[/name_u], and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. Out of curiosity, would you call her [name_f]Ava[/name_f]-[name_u]Reese[/name_u] on a daily basis? Either way, I love it! I would love to meet a little [name_f]Ava[/name_f]-[name_u]Reese[/name_u] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] [name_u]Reese[/name_u] is my second choice, but since [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] is technically unisex, too, I would prefer to see a feminine MN (like [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] or [name_f]Ava[/name_f]?) over [name_u]Reese[/name_u]. [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] [name_u]Reese[/name_u] is a little hissy, too, but otherwise is really gorgeous. I’m not terribly fond of Reeselyn, though, sorry.
My first choice is [name_f]Joselyn[/name_f] [name_u]Reese[/name_u], but I think [name_f]Ava[/name_f]-[name_u]Reese[/name_u] makes a super cute double name! If I absolutely had to choose though, I’d pick [name_f]Joselyn[/name_f]. The more I think about [name_f]Ava[/name_f]-[name_u]Reese[/name_u], the more it sounds like the word ‘avarice’, which is a synonym for extreme greediness.
I love [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] [name_u]Reese[/name_u]. I remember your earlier posts and I think [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] is a great way to get the -lyn ending and incorporate [name_u]Reese[/name_u] into the middle slot.
My husband loves joselyn…his name is [name_m]Joe[/name_m] and says her nickname could be [name_u]Josie[/name_u]. Which is cute! And glad he put some thought into it. I really love [name_f]Ava[/name_f]-[name_u]Reese[/name_u]. I didn’t at first but it’s grown on me. My intentions from the start were to call her [name_u]Reese[/name_u] regardless of which of these names we chose, but now I’m not sure that I wouldn’t use the full [name_f]Ava[/name_f]-[name_u]Reese[/name_u]. It seems to be a trend that most people on here don’t like Reeselyn, I’m not sure if it’s a difference in location or what because everyone in my area that I tell loves this name! And I have some incredibly blunt friends! Lol! I just keep saying all these names over and over and seeing which one sticks!
To be honest, Reeselyn sounds a lot like Riesling, the type of wine. I think a lot of people might also notice that, so it’s something to consider.
I like [name_f]Ava[/name_f]-[name_u]Reese[/name_u] the best, but I don’t like it with [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] or [name_m]Smith[/name_m] following it because the names run together due to the “S” sounds next to each other. It sounds like “[name_f]Ree[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]” or “[name_f]Ree[/name_f] [name_m]Smith[/name_m].” So my vote goes to [name_f]Joselyn[/name_f] [name_u]Reese[/name_u] [name_m]Smith[/name_m] (though I would prefer the more common [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] spelling) because the “S” sounds run together the least in that combo.
I think the nicest is [name_f]Joselyn[/name_f], [name_u]Josie[/name_u] is absolutely adorable, you’re honouring your husband, have a legitimate -lyn name and incorporate [name_u]Reese[/name_u] as a second name.
I like [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] [name_u]Reese[/name_u] and [name_f]Ava[/name_f] [name_u]Reese[/name_u] equally but if I remember right you didn’t want to use [name_u]Reese[/name_u] next to smith and with [name_f]Ava[/name_f] [name_u]Reese[/name_u] that still happens.
[name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] [name_u]Reese[/name_u] or just [name_u]Reese[/name_u] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] are both lovely names.
I prefer [name_f]Ava[/name_f]-[name_u]Reese[/name_u]. [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] [name_u]Reese[/name_u] is nice as well, but [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] sounds a bit dated, while [name_f]Ava[/name_f]-[name_u]Reese[/name_u] sounds more fresh.
I voted for [name_f]Joselyn[/name_f] [name_u]Reese[/name_u], and I also thought of [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Joselyn[/name_f] Reese or [name_f]Joselyn[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] Reese from your options - I think these are so pretty! Having Reese as a second mn keeps it in there and allows for some really beautiful and flowy names But perhaps you might think they’re too long.
I agree with an earlier poster’s comments - “I think the nicest is Joselyn, Josie is absolutely adorable, you’re honouring your husband, have a legitimate -lyn name and incorporate Reese as a second name.”
I also prefer Jocelyn to Joselyn, it looks prettier to me. It’d also mean less explaining of the spelling for her, and she might find pens/stickers with her name spelled how she spells it on them - which I’ve found is an important thing for the tiny tots! (If you’re thinking of spelling it with an “s” in order for it to match the spelling of Josie more closely, then I’d say don’t worry about that - just look at all the Catherines who go by Kate/Katie!) Also a kind of silly thing, at first the Joselyn spelling might look like it should be pronounced “Hozaylyn”!
I voted [name_f]Joselyn[/name_f] [name_u]Reece[/name_u] before reading this, and now that I know the [name_m]Joe[/name_m]/[name_u]Josie[/name_u] connection I like it even more! I do think [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] is a more straightforward spelling, but “[name_f]Joselyn[/name_f]” with an “s” doesn’t seem like it would be too hard if there’s a reason you want to keep that spelling (but I wonder if you might sometimes get a [name_m]Joe[/name_m]-suh-lyn pronunciation that way, since it starts out like [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]?). If you want to use [name_u]Reece[/name_u] on a daily basis, I think [name_u]Josie[/name_u] [name_u]Reece[/name_u] sounds really cute, too.
I almost voted for [name_f]Ava[/name_f]-[name_u]Reece[/name_u], it does sound really sweet, but then I thought of the word “avarice” and I couldn’t shake the connection (although they are pronounced differently, so maybe this is just something weird in my head!).
As for Reeselyn, I have noticed that most people on nameberry tend to shy away from newer/invented names–I think that tends to be true for me, as well. If it’s getting good feedback in your location/social circle, that’s probably the most important thing, though it’s interesting to see how names fare with the nameberry crowd, which seems pretty international, since you never know where you’re little girl will end up
In the end, saying the name over and over to see which one stuck was how I picked my son’s name! But some people keep a shortlist up until the birth and wait til they meet their little ones to see which name fits best–that could be an option for you, too, since you’ve narrowed it down to a few good choices
Not to add more confusion, but in your original post you talked about avoiding popular names. [name_f]Ava[/name_f] is one of the most popular names I hear. I have three close friends that used [name_f]Ava[/name_f]. I have one in my family. I hear it multiple times at my daughters dance school. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a heads up. [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] or even Reeselyn would be better to avoid popularity concerns.
You definitely aren’t alone. “Avarice” was the first thing I thought after pronouncing [name_f]Ava[/name_f]-[name_u]Reece[/name_u] also. Not the best association for a name!
My vote is with [name_f]Joselyn[/name_f]. If you are open to spelling suggestions, I prefer [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f]. Great name!
I would only use [name_f]Ava[/name_f] as a hyphenated first name, [name_f]Ava[/name_f]-[name_u]Reese[/name_u], which I don’t think will be very common. I know several little [name_f]Ava[/name_f]'s myself so I wouldn’t want to use it alone, which is why I don’t like the suggestion of [name_f]Ava[/name_f] [name_u]Reese[/name_u] [name_m]Smith[/name_m]
Yes the “s” sound of [name_u]Reese[/name_u] and [name_m]Smith[/name_m] do run together a bit, which I don’t love but that’s not my biggest issue. I don’t want people to look at my daughters name and wonder if it’s a girl or boy. With simply [name_u]Reese[/name_u] as a first name I feel like she may get that quite often.
