I am expecting my third child in a little over two weeks. She could essentially come at anytime, and that makes me really nervous because she doesn’t have a name, yet. My husband, God love him, is impossible to choose names with. I have finally kicked him out of the decision process and I need help deciding from my list.
We have two children: [name]Oakley[/name] [name]Griffin[/name] and [name]Greer[/name] [name]Emerson[/name]. You could say I like unisex names, sure. I’m more interested in how they sound rather than what they mean or what gender they originate from. Here’s what I’ve got so far.
[name]Bristol[/name], [name]Tatum[/name] or [name]Viva[/name] i think!! I love how you choose [name]Greer[/name] for your little girl! most people on here dont really like it but i’ve met a lovely woman called [name]Greer[/name] who seemed to make the name just radiate elegance and poise! and now the name always makes me smile! Unisex names aren’t really my sort but i really like [name]Bristol[/name] or [name]Tatum[/name] but [name]Viva[/name] really appeals to me the most!
I think the other names are too masculine for me to picture on a girl but the only one i stronly dislike is [name]Slater[/name] because of slater bugs! and the sl sound makes me think of slick, sleazy, slug and other Sl words that arent so nice!
[name]Sawyer[/name], [name]Foster[/name], [name]Shephard[/name] and [name]Fletcher[/name] are okay though not my faves (as i pointed them out already!) [name]Fletcher[/name] i dont like either but maybe i have a problem with L blends the Fl and Sl? [name]Foster[/name] could be really cute on a little girl and reminds me of [name]Jodie[/name] [name]Foster[/name]! Yay i think [name]Foster[/name] could be up their with [name]Bristol[/name], [name]Tatum[/name] and [name]Viva[/name]! I’m not completely sure how to pronounce [name]Tatum[/name]? help me out? is it [name]Tay[/name]-tum?
good luck!
I have to agree with the pp that most of these names seem too masculine to me. I thnk actors [name]Sam[/name] [name]Shepherd[/name] and [name]Christian[/name] [name]Slater[/name], Mutiny on the Bounty’s [name]Fletcher[/name] [name]Christian[/name] and character [name]Tom[/name] [name]Sawyer[/name] influence the perception. Further the similarity between [name]Slater[/name] and slayer make that name unpleasant to me. [name]Foster[/name] has a nice meaning and [name]Jody[/name] [name]Foster[/name] does provide a feminine link, but I still read it as male. So for me, what remains, are:
[name]Viva[/name]–Somehow this lacks the substance and gravitas of the lovely [name]Greer[/name].
[name]Bristol[/name]–I think that this would be my pick from your choices, though right now I associate it rather strongly with Ms. [name]Palin[/name]. She somehow owns the name, but I expect that will fade.
[name]Tatum[/name]–I really want to like this name. It is energetic, cheerful and somewhat unusual. But that -tum ending has always sounded
rather flat-footed and awkward to me.
Working off [name]Tatum[/name], I like the pp’s suggestion of [name]Tenley[/name] and [name]Teagan[/name]. I’ll add to that list [name]Tierny[/name] and [name]Tamsin[/name]. I also think [name]Blythe[/name] makes a lovely pair with [name]Greer[/name], though I’m not sure about [name]Oakley[/name], [name]Greer[/name] and [name]Blythe[/name].
Until I saw your sig I had no idea whether the kids your already had were girls or boys. I guessed both boys and then noticed that [name]Greer[/name] was written in pink.
Looking at your list of names I would have thought that all of them bar [name]Viva[/name] were boys. They’re all really hard sounding and masculine. I appreciate that you like unisex names but maybe one that’s a little softer?
From your list I like [name]Tatum[/name] best with [name]Bristol[/name] as a close second. Paired with your other children I like [name]Tatum[/name] [name]Bristol[/name]
Others pointed out that the names do seem masculine which is not my style but if everyone had the same style this would be a very boring world! I really could see a sweet little girl named [name]Tatum[/name] or [name]Bristol[/name] running around and I definitely think they go well with your other children’s names. Good luck!
I’m a 20-something and know a (girl) [name]Greer[/name] my age. I think it’s a great name, and it does actually scream girl to me! I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Tatum[/name], as it’s on my short list! I also really like the suggested name [name]Sloane[/name] to go with [name]Oakley[/name] and [name]Greer[/name]. It sounds softer and more feminine than the rest of your names, which are NMS.
[name]Tatum[/name] is also my fave from your list. [name]Viva[/name] is nice, but too feminine with [name]Greer[/name] as a sister. Your other names seem more masculine than unisex.
Some unisex names that work well with [name]Oakley[/name] and [name]Greer[/name]:
[name]Bristol[/name]: can be unisex, unfortunately it reminds me of the Palins.
[name]Tatum[/name]: The only unisex name on your list I really love.
[name]Viva[/name]: Too feminine to be unisex. Very pretty for a girl though! [name]Love[/name] the meaning!
[name]Sawyer[/name]: This screams all boy to me. Not sure why people are trying to make it unisex. I love it though.
[name]Fletcher[/name]: Same as [name]Sawyer[/name]. All boy. I like it.
[name]Foster[/name]: Not a fan of it. All boy.
[name]Shepherd[/name]: Extremely masculine.
[name]Slater[/name]: Not a pleasant sounding name. All boy.
[name]Tatum[/name] is another guilty pleasure, just think it sounds great so that is by far my favourite and I can see siblings named [name]Oakley[/name], [name]Greer[/name] and [name]Tatum[/name].
[name]Bristol[/name] could work too, not here in the UK but if you are anywhere else it could work.
The others are far too masculine! [name]Foster[/name], [name]Shepherd[/name], [name]Slater[/name], [name]Fletcher[/name] are all up and coming boy’s names so I’d leave them well alone.
[name]Viva[/name] doesn’t seem to fit your style.
[name]Sawyer[/name] could work although I don’t like it on a girl.
I like [name]Viva[/name] and [name]Tatum[/name]. [name]Bristol[/name] isn’t too bad, but I personally don’t like the [name]Palin[/name] association. The rest are a bit too harsh for me. Well, [name]Shepard[/name] I can sort of see why some would consider it unisex, but that’s just me.
I vote for [name]Tatum[/name], as well. I think that it’s cute with the sibset. If I were naming my child, I would probably name my child something more formal, with the nn [name]Tatum[/name], so that they had the option of going by a more formal name when they grew up.
