We have (FINALLY) narrowed it down to three names, but we can’t seem to make a final call. Please vote for your favorite.
A few thoughts that are helping/plaguing us.
[name_m]Christopher[/name_m] is so much longer than both our first and last name that it feels a bit unbalanced. We do like that it is a [name_m]Saint[/name_m]’s name.
Joseph is my current favorite (though this changes more than I care to admit). I love that it is 2 syllables, creates a nice nickname (AJ), and is a [name_m]Saint[/name_m]’s name. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband is against it because he has a cousin named [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] (who we never see) and doesn’t want people to think we named the baby after him or the current president.
Reid: I love that this is more quirky and fun than the other two, and I think the length is really nice. I wish it was a [name_m]Saint[/name_m]’s name, but that isn’t a deal breaker for me. There is a [name_u]Reid[/name_u] Hoffmann who is famous, so he couldn’t really ever go by his middle name if he wanted to. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband thinks it is too short with the shorter first name.
Please let us know what you think in the comments!
Final Name
- Alan [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] Hoffman
- Alan [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] Hoffman
- Alan [name_u]Reid[/name_u] Hoffman
Alan [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] is lovely and I love potential nn AJ
With the fn. [name_m]Alan[/name_m] I think [name_u]Reid[/name_u] provides the best flow. I do like [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] but I feel like [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] [name_m]Alan[/name_m] Hoffman would provide the better flow.
Side note: I completely understand the hesitancy over [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] and not wanting people to think you are trying to honor the current [name_m]President[/name_m]. I’m liking the name [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] for a possible middle for a not yet conceived daughter but wonder how many would think it’d be a nod to the recently deceased [name_u]Justice[/name_u]. I feel like this is one of those “fades with time” type things. Maybe this year and the next people would see that but ten years down the line it wouldn’t be a passing thought especially where the name is a classic.

I like the cadence of [name_m]Alan[/name_m] [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] Hoffman – I think the longer mn creates balance, actually. [name_m]Alan[/name_m] [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] works, too, but it’s a bit choppier since all three are two syllables and the ph of [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] is super close to the ff in Hoffman. Those are just my thoughts as to sound and flow, but any of these would work well! Still, [name_m]Alan[/name_m] [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] definitely gets my vote.
