The compromise that seemed impossible actually fell into place and I’m thrilled. However, I am still stuck. DH gets his favorite [name]Sarah[/name] in the middle spot, so now it is up to me which first name to go with. I love [name]Eleanor[/name], but worry about the popularity of nn’s like [name]Ellie[/name]/[name]Ella[/name]. And just opposite, I worry about the popularity of [name]Amelia[/name], but love the nicknames [name]Millie[/name]/[name]Milla[/name].
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Sarah[/name] or [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Faye[/name]
DH is NOT a fan of two middle names, but we didn’t love the flow of [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Sarah[/name], plus her initials would spell out ASK, and I while ASK isn’t spelling anything bad, I would rather it didn’t spell anything at all.
Also if it makes a difference [name]Faye[/name] is my grandma’s middle name, and [name]Eleanor[/name] is his grandma’s first name. She died when he was young and we didn’t even realize [name]Eleanor[/name] was a family name until we mentioned our name choices to his mom. Also a little funny, if DH had been a girl, his name would have been [name]Eleanor[/name].
Which would you choose? Why? Or any other comments are welcome!
I like [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Sarah[/name] better for flow; I’m also partial to [name]Sarah[/name] b/c it’s my partner’s name, although she doesn’t like it very much. She grew up with a bunch of Sarahs and I grew up with none, so that’s affected our outlook. I also really like the nn [name]Nora[/name]/ [name]Nor/name for [name]Eleanor[/name] if you don’t like [name]El[/name]/ [name]Ellie[/name]/ [name]Ella[/name].
I appreciate the sentimental value of the name [name]Eleanor[/name] for you, that would make a really great naming story. I actually prefere [name]Ellie[/name], [name]Elle[/name] or [name]Ella[/name] to [name]Eleanor[/name]. I still think of [name]Eleanor[/name] as an old lady name (sorry), I just haven’t come around to it’s recent popularity. I really like [name]Amelia[/name]. Nn’s [name]Mia[/name], [name]Millie[/name], or [name]Mila[/name] are all really cute. I actually prefer the sound of [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Amelia[/name] to [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Faye[/name] but I do prefer [name]Amelia[/name] over [name]Eleanor[/name]. [name]Hope[/name] that helps
I prefer [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Sarah[/name]. I think it’s lovely and has great family connections. Personally, if I met an [name]Eleanor[/name], I wouldn’t call her [name]Ellie[/name] or [name]Ella[/name] unless I was told to. I think you can veer away from that nickname easily. [name]Amelia[/name] is nice as well, but I do think it’s fated for popularity, and is already much more popular than [name]Eleanor[/name]. I also love that [name]Eleanor[/name] has a number of potential nicknames - [name]Leni[/name], [name]Lena[/name], [name]Nora[/name], [name]Nell[/name]. And [name]Sarah[/name] is very classy in the middle! Good luck!
I think [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Sarah[/name] is lovely. My niece is named [name]Eleanor[/name] and her nn is [name]Nora[/name]. It’s a very cute nickname for a little girl.
Another vote for [name]Eleanor[/name]! [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Sarah[/name] is really pretty, it flows great, and you don’t have to worry about initials. But what sealed the deal is the name story. Your daughter will appreciate that over another name you just liked.
I prefer [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Sarah[/name]. [name]Eleanor[/name] has a lot of family significance for you and is a lovely, distinct choice. It seems like I hear [name]Amelia[/name] everywhere now.
I love [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Sarah[/name]! It feels almost “meant to be” with the family connections and name story. [name]Love[/name] the pp suggestions for nicknames other than [name]Ellie[/name]/[name]Ella[/name].
I have to confess that I don’t really care for either of these names, but I do like [name]Amelia[/name] a little better. I happen to love the nickname [name]Millie[/name], though! And while I’m not a big fan of two middle names, I think [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Faye[/name] sounds pretty good.
Thank you all for the feedback!
DH wanted me to give him a list of my top 5 girl names so we’d have something to go off of. Trying to make a list together was torture and we were getting nowhere. [name]Amelia[/name] was the first to make the list so I felt like that really meant something. [name]Eleanor[/name] was the very last to make the list but it really jumped out at me in a new way and I knew it had to be on the list, which also seemed to mean something lol.
After reading all of the comments, I am definitely leaning toward [name]Eleanor[/name]. Meaning was very very important to me when I was trying to decide on name combos. Most of my meaningful stories were going to come in through the middle name, but compromising to form a name that DH will love too was more important, so I ditched my MN ideas and let him have his [name]Sarah[/name].
Perhaps [name]Eleanor[/name] really was jumping out at me for a reason since I picked it before I knew about the grandma
I know that DH is leaning toward [name]Amelia[/name] because he still has an old lady view of [name]Eleanor[/name], and I do love [name]Millie[/name], but the fun name story of [name]Eleanor[/name] is hard to ignore!
I like both names a lot…my grandmother’s name was [name]Eleanor[/name] and her nickname was [name]Nonie[/name], which I always thought was really cute and unusual. I definitely think in the long run [name]Amelia[/name] will be much more popular than [name]Eleanor[/name], if that is a concern. You really can’t go wrong with either.
What about [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Amelia[/name] or [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name]? I think both are adorable.
If you are worried about popularity, [name]Eleanor[/name] seems a better option because you can choose [name]Nora[/name] (not so popular) over [name]Elle[/name]/[name]Ellie[/name] and, from the sounds of other posters, [name]Amelia[/name] is really popular. (Must be in the USA because here in [name]Oz[/name] I have not heard it recently.)
A favorite professor once said to me: You don’t have a problem, you have a choice between two good things, and that’s a nice place to be! [name]Amelia[/name] is a bit livelier and more modern but trendier while [name]Eleanor[/name] is more serious and classic though also fashionable. You don’t like [name]Nell[/name] or [name]Nellie[/name] as a nn? Very like [name]Millie[/name]. Actually, to me, [name]Millie[/name] is kind of old ladyish and [name]Nellie[/name] younger.
Another vote for [name]Eleanor[/name] with a suggestion. You can use the nickname [name]Elena[/name] if you don’t like [name]Ellie[/name]/[name]Ella[/name]. It’s not nearly as popular and it’s very pretty.
