We are stuck deciding between two girl names: [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f]. I have two questions… which do you prefer and how would you pronounce [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]? I am surprised that I have come across a couple of people who mispronounce the name when they see it written and I just want to know what people would assume is the common pronunciation. Thanks!
I would pronounce [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] Loo-see-uh
I prefer [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], either pronunciation. I would first read it “[name_u]Lou[/name_u]-see-uh” (like in [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]), but I also know a “[name_u]Lou[/name_u]-sha.” I prefer the first pronunciation and I know three [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]'s who say their names that way.
Is [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] an option? That would be lovely.

I prefer [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f], but I say [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] the Italian way (Loo-chee-ah). I’ve heard Loo-sha as well.
I like [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] a lot! Feminizations are really not my style, I suppose : ) And there are three ways to pronounce [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]: Italian (loo-chee-uh); Spanish (loo-see-uh); and English (loo-sha). I prefer the Italian form myself, and all three are equally valid. I think most people will be saying it the Spanish way.
I prefer [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f]! I believe there are three correct pronunciations, so I would not assume any one. I would probably go with loo-see-uh or loo-sha if I hadn’t been told otherwise. It is a name that requires clarification, so if that’s a problem for you I’d think twice.
I think they’re both absolutely beautiful and I see why you’re stumped. [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] (Loo-see) would be very cute. Otherwise, I think my vote is for [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f].
My preference (and assumption) is for the pronunciation Loo-see-uh. Second is Loo-chee-uh. If it’s Loo-sha, I think my vote is for [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. 
I prefer [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f]. [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] has been overdone and butchered into [name_f]Makayla[/name_f]/[name_f]Mikayla[/name_f], whereas [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] feels fresh and lovely. I’ve heard loo-chee-uh, loo-see-uh, and loo-sha for [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], but loo-see-uh is my favorite pronunciation. [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] is beautiful and my favourite but it can run into pronunciation issues because it can be pronounced in three ways. So it may be that no one is actually mispronouncing the name. It may be a case of “it’s the way we’ve heard it”. No one is incorrect.
Italian - loo-CHEE-uh
Spanish - loo-SEE-uh
Island - LOO-shuh
Out of the two, I prefer [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. I pronounce [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] - “loo-see-ah”. That’s the only way I’ve ever heard it pronounced in real life. I would automatically say it like that unless I met someone named [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] who pronounced it differently. I’ve met a few [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]'s (of varying ages) and they all pronounced it like that. I’ve personally never liked [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], it has always been a name that I consider ugly and boring. Out of all the pronunciations, I think “loo-shuh” sounds the best.
Definitely [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] (prn loo-see-uh)! [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] is very 15 years ago.
I immediately read it as Loo-chee-ah, but I live in [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_u]Jersey[/name_u] where [name_f]Gianna[/name_f], [name_m]Gianni[/name_m], [name_m]Domenic[/name_m], and [name_m]Salvatore[/name_m] went to school with my kids!
All three are legitimate, as everyone has said. I happen to love the name [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] but with all the “new” spellings, it is very popular.
I prefer [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], which gives you the opportunity to use [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] as a nn.
I much prefer [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], however it is pronounced, to [name_f]Michaela[/name_f]. I definitely prefer [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] to [name_f]MaKayla[/name_f]/[name_f]McKayla[/name_f]/Makaylah, but it still sounds dated to me (late 80s, early 90s). When I see [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], I hear Loo-sha, like the island and the Germanic/Scandinavian pronunciation. But [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] is one of those names that has several perfectly valid pronunciations. I would assume that an Italian [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] was loo-CHEE-ah, and a Spanish [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] was loo-SEE-uh. If I met a British or American or [name_m]German[/name_m] [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], I’d assume it was LOO-sha. But it is an easy enough thing to correct if you get it wrong. I get the spanish pronunciation of [name_f]Maura[/name_f] a lot (MOW-ra), and it doesn’t bother me.
All the problems I have with both names have been brought up.

If I had to make the choice I’d go with [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] and call her [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] all the time 
I love both [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] and [name_f]Michaela[/name_f]. I love that you’re using the original spelling, which I find fresh and charming. I say [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] Loo-see-ah, but I quickly correct to however the family says it.
I’d say it the Italian way, ‘loo-chee-a’ [name_m]Both[/name_m] [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] are lovely, you can’t go wrong really!
[name_f]Michaela[/name_f] feels so very dated; plus, whenever I see it, I almost automatically pronounce it “my-kuhl-uh” or “michael-uh,” even though I know its correct pronunciation is mih-kay-luh. By process of elimination, I prefer [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], though I prefer [name_f]Lucy[/name_f].
The only [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] I know is of Spanish descent, so I learned it as loo-see-uh. Though lately I’ve heard (on the internet, at least) of some loo-shuh pronouncers.
I’d go with [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]! I pronounce it lou-see-uh, but it sounds beautiful any of the three ways.
