Downton Abbey Dilemma

I say go for it. I love Downton [name]Abbey[/name] (we view it on PBS in the States), and I don’t think it is too big of a deal for you to have [name]Cora[/name], [name]Sybil[/name], and [name]Edith[/name] in a sibset, especially because your oldest is named [name]Willa[/name], and not [name]Mary[/name] After a while though the show will (unfortunately) fade away, so I don’t think that any possible teasing you may get will last.

I just started watching the series so I’ve only seen a few episodes and I don’t think I wouldn’t have made the downton abbey connection right away. It’s true, not that many people watch the show and those who do will understand that you named your first daughters well before the show came out. [name]Even[/name] if I made the connection, I wouldn’t think much of it, there are MANY characters in that show. I would just assume you chose the names because they are beautiful, which they are!! It’s not at all a deal breaker. And it’s not like you’ve named them [name]Mary[/name], [name]Edith[/name], and [name]Sybil[/name].

BTW I would not liken it to [name]Phoebe[/name] and [name]Rachel[/name] - that is a show EVERYONE has seen and there are still reruns on every day. That show won’t be going away for a long while and EVERYONE would make the connection right away. (And, those names are not nearly as beautiful!)

I love the show Downton [name]Abbey[/name], and when you first mentioned this problem in another post, I didn’t make the connection right away. I don’t think it’s a deal breaker at all, unless you’re truly uncomfortable with it. [name]Edith[/name] is a beautiful name (one of my favorites) and it shouldn’t be passed up because of a tv show that will probably slip under the radar in a few years. Also, “Being the [name]Edith[/name]” or “Pulling and [name]Edith[/name]” (whatever the phrase is,) won’t be applied to your child. [name]Just[/name] because she shares the name with a character who’s bitter doesn’t mean she’ll be bitter. I’ve never heard the phrase, so it’s probably going to fade as well.
I really hope that helps!

I [name]LOVE[/name] Downton [name]Abbey[/name], but I didn’t even think of the character when I heard an acquaintance named her daughter [name]Edith[/name]. Also, the character is not that bad - just very human. Fads come and go. Nobody will connect the name and character in ten years.

[name]Don[/name]'t let Downton stop you from using [name]Edith[/name] if you love it, but I’ll put in a vote for [name]Willa[/name], [name]Cora[/name], [name]Sybil[/name], and [name]Maude[/name]. [name]Love[/name] those ones for sisters!
