Drusilla

I already know how divisive this will be, and so it should be! I’ve just fallen in love with little [name_f]Drusilla[/name_f] nn Dru… thoughts… honesty welcomed X

I associate the name with [name_f]Drusilla[/name_f] [name_m]Cornell[/name_m], a very influential feminist philosopher and intellect. It also has vampire and country music connotations. I like it! [name_f]Dru[/name_f] makes it more accessible.

It’s not my cup of tea, it always makes me think of the evil stepsisters from [name_f]Cinderella[/name_f], I’m actually not quite sure why, but it gives me a slightly frumpy yet frilly vibe, which I find matches their portrayal.
I also get slightly gothic vibes from the name, but again, it’s more clunky than chic, so it’s just not for me.

In general I like it but it would forever be a GP to me purely for the [name_f]Buffy[/name_f] reference to a crazy vampire with mental health issues :see_no_evil:

I think it would sound nice. You could give her a middle name, so in case she like, despises her 1st name, she could go by her middle…
Ideas
[name_f]Drusilla[/name_f] [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] (fruitful peace warrior)
[name_f]Drusilla[/name_f] Fredriquea/ Fredricka/ (idk how to spell that name, but it would sound good with Drusilla) (fruitful ruler of peace)
[name_f]Drusilla[/name_f] Averie/Avery (*fruitful ruler of the elves)

And out of context question but; how do y’all make the polls?

I think of the evil stepsister from cinderella as well (@OpheliaFlora one of the stepsisters in the original disney version is named Drusilla)

However I do really like the nickname [name_f]Dru[/name_f]

Thanks all. So not so much divisive as pretty unilaterally disliked :joy:. I get it with this one though, even just from the sounds never mind the associations.

I have been watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer recently so my first association with Drusilla is one of the vampires in the show who also goes by Dru. That said I wouldn’t say it’s a negative association for me

Drusilla in general gives me very vampire vibes because it feels very gothic to me (other names that * loosely* fit its vibe for me are Artemis, Ceridwen, Cordelia, Cornelia, Guinevere, Hesperia, Odessa, Ophira, Ortensia, Pandora, Sedona, Verona, Wisteria)

I like it though! It’s not my personal style and I wouldn’t ever use it but it’s still a pretty name and I think Dru is a sweet nickname for a little girl!

[name_f]Drusilla[/name_f] has grown on me. Unexpected and distinctive with a blend of sharp and soft sounds and sweet nicknames [name_f]Dru[/name_f], [name_m]Dill[/name_m], Dizzy, Silla?

I’m a [name_f]Drusilla[/name_f] fan! Such a perfect blend of clunkiness, gothic imagery and femininity.

(The [name_f]Cinderella[/name_f] stepsister was Drizella, not [name_f]Drusilla[/name_f], by the way.)

It feels witchy to me for some reason? Not necessarily a bad thing just something I personally can’t get over, I want to love it though. Also [name_f]Dru[/name_f] is so cute!

[name_f]Drusilla[/name_f] also reminds me of the evil stepsister in [name_f]Cinderella[/name_f], as does other similar names like [name_f]Priscilla[/name_f]. It’s interesting to me how much names can remind me of a side character in an old movie and still greatly affect my opinion of the name haha.

While it’s extremely [name_f]Cinderella[/name_f] to me, I see its appeal for its Dru(Drew) nickname as well as Silla, a sound I personally love- (Priscilla is a favorite of mine)

Dru is adorable!
Unfortunately, I’m not crazy about Drusilla or names with a similar sound like Priscilla, Ludmilla, Sybilla or even Cecilia. I think they sounds quite harsh and heavy. Perhaps, it is because of the strong C, I, S and R sounds together. I also don’t like that it reminds me of the words godzilla and bridezilla.
I love Camilla and really like Willa, though.

As a full name for Dru, I would recommend:
Doriana Ruth
Dulcinea Ruby
Dominica Rue

Prudence
Audrey
Andrea

I don’t think Cinderella’s evil stepsister is a valid association since the name was in fact Drizella or Drisella. Other popular names were used in different versions of Cinderella like Doris, Mabel, Charlotte, Tisbe, Lucinda, Esmeralda, Serafina, etc. In the same version, the other stepsister was named Anastasia, which is a name that I adore and is quite popular in some places!
