Due date is two days away & we still don't have "the" boys name

[name]Baby[/name] number two is scheduled to arrive any time now & we still don’t have a boys name. We do not know the gender, if baby is a girl, her name will be [name]Annabelle[/name], but if baby is a boy (and I have a feeling it is, if that counts for anything!) we are completely lost.

Our first son is named [name]Bennett[/name] & I am looking for a name that goes well with that, but I haven’t found one yet. As with [name]Bennett[/name], I would like a less common name, that offers a more common nn should the child wish to go by that in the future. I would also really like if the name had a nice meaning ([name]Bennett[/name] means “Blessed”). I am drawn to surnames as first names for boys, but this is not a must.

I find naming boys next to impossible…while with girls my lists are pages long, with boys I just cant find anything I [name]LOVE[/name]. I find plenty of boys names I like OKAY, but I am extremely picky and I always find something wrong with everything I have come across. The names I like most right now are [name]Lucas[/name], (love the name & how it goes with [name]Bennett[/name], but hate how popular it is & hubby doesn’t like), [name]Walker[/name] (like the sound & think it’s cute with [name]Bennett[/name], but no nn & no nice meaning), and [name]Archer[/name] (like the name & love [name]Archie[/name], but hubby doesn’t like). My husbands top pick is [name]Lewis[/name], but I just cant bring myself to like it.

I think names such as [name]Luke[/name], [name]Scott[/name], [name]Max[/name], [name]Mac[/name], all go well with [name]Ben[/name] & would love an uncommon name that offered one of these as a nn, but have not found one I like yet. Recently I have been looking at [name]Matt[/name] names (like the 'God’s Gift" meaning), but none that I have come across seem right either.

Induction date has been set so baby will be here within a week no matter what & I am desperate at this point. My first son was days old before he was named & while I absolutely love his name now, I just don’t want to go through that again. If you think there’s a chance you have a name that would work for us, that I may not have come across yet, please, please, please, send it my way!!!

If you like the “God’s Gift” meaning, have you considered [name]Theodore[/name]? I’m guessing you have, since it seems to be a Nameberry favorite, but I think [name]Bennett[/name] and [name]Theodore[/name] are great for brothers, and you can pick between [name]Teddy[/name], [name]Ted[/name], and [name]Theo[/name] as nns…

Here’s a few ideas I had:

[name]Josiah[/name] (means “the [name]Lord[/name] saves”–which, it seems like the [name]Christian[/name] meanings are ones you like–and you could pick between [name]Joe[/name], [name]Joey[/name], or [name]Si[/name] as a nn… all of which go well with [name]Ben[/name], imo)

[name]Sullivan[/name] (means “keen eye”–not sure if it’s the best, but it seems to imply intelligence to me, which is nice–you could do nn [name]Sully[/name], [name]Ivan[/name], or just [name]Van[/name]… [name]Ben[/name] and [name]Van[/name] doesn’t work that well, imo, though)

[name]Jack[/name]/[name]John[/name]/[name]Shane[/name]/[name]Sean[/name]/[name]Ian[/name]/etc. (means “God is gracious”–lovely meaning, but it doesn’t have great nn potential. I do like the thought of [name]Jack[/name] with [name]Bennett[/name], though, and it has a great meaning. You could always do [name]Jackson[/name], nn [name]Jack[/name], or [name]Jonathan[/name], nn [name]Jack[/name]. [name]Jonathan[/name] means “God has given”, which ties into the whole blessed meaning, and you could pick between [name]John[/name], [name]Johnny[/name], [name]Jack[/name], [name]Nate[/name], [name]Nathan[/name], etc., as a nn for that…)

[name]Nathaniel[/name] (also means “gift of God”–I think [name]Ben[/name] and [name]Nate[/name] go well together… you could also use the nn [name]Nathan[/name], or you could just use [name]Nathan[/name], which also means “God/He has given”)

[name]Nicholas[/name] (means “victory of the people”–quite popular, but it has a lot of nice nn options–[name]Nick[/name], [name]Nico[/name]/[name]Niko[/name], [name]Cole[/name], etc. There’s also the more out-there [name]Claus[/name], but I really doubt that would work in [name]America[/name]…)

[name]Boone[/name] (no real nickname potential, but it’s a French name/surname meaning “good”… not very common, but [name]Ben[/name] and [name]Boone[/name] is a bit close)

[name]Michael[/name]/[name]Micah[/name] (“who is like God?” - you could use the nn [name]Mike[/name]/[name]Mikey[/name], I suppose. I like just [name]Micah[/name], though)

[name]Joshua[/name] (popular, but the meaning, “God saves,” is wonderful. nn [name]Josh[/name]? I don’t think anything else really works. I like just [name]Joshua[/name], though)

[name]Gabriel[/name] (or the less common [name]Gavriel[/name]; means “God is my might.” NN [name]Gabe[/name]/[name]Gabby[/name]/[name]Abe[/name])

[name]Callum[/name] (means “dove” which is a nice symbol of peace. nn could be [name]Cal[/name])

[name]Caleb[/name] (again, reasonably popular, but I’ve heard one of its meanings is “heart”, which I love, and you could use the nn [name]Cal[/name] or [name]Cale[/name]…)

[name]Declan[/name] (means “full of goodness”, which I never knew… it’s a wonderful meaning. I like the occasional nn of Dec, but it’s not a common nn like [name]Ben[/name]/[name]Nate[/name]/[name]Luke[/name]/[name]Gabe[/name]/[name]Nick[/name]/etc.)

[name]Asher[/name] (means “fortunate/blessed/happy”, which could be a nice tie in to [name]Bennett[/name]'s name. I think [name]Ben[/name] and [name]Ash[/name] are SO cool for brothers)

[name]Isaac[/name] (means “laughter”, which, again, is lovely. nns [name]Ike[/name] or [name]Zach[/name]/Zaac/Saac?)

[name]Elias[/name]/[name]Elliot[/name]/[name]Elijah[/name] (means “my God is the [name]Lord[/name]”–I think [name]Elliot[/name]'s too matchy with [name]Bennett[/name], and [name]Elijah[/name]'s pretty popular, but [name]Elias[/name] could work, with the nn [name]Eli[/name]?)

[name]Jonah[/name]/[name]Jonas[/name] (also mean “dove”–[name]Joe[/name]/[name]Joey[/name] could be a nice nn)

[name]Seth[/name] (no real nicknames–Sethy?–but the meaning is “appointed”, which is really nice)

[name]Truman[/name] (means “faithful man”–nn could be [name]Tru[/name]/[name]True[/name]?)

[name]Maddox[/name] (a bit Hollywood, but you could use the nn [name]Max[/name]/[name]Mac[/name], and it means “good; generous”)

[name]Rhys[/name]/[name]Reece[/name]/[name]Reese[/name] (means “enthusiasm”. No real nicknames, but [name]Bennett[/name] and [name]Rhys[/name] are adorable together…)

[name]Spencer[/name] (means “someone who gives out goods”–which, when I first read it, assumed that meant someone who helped those in need. Apparently it’s the French word for someone who dispenses… maybe not as great. NN could be [name]Spence[/name], I guess?)

[name]Malachi[/name] (means “my messenger”. NN could be [name]Mac[/name] or [name]Kai[/name]?)

[name]Ezekiel[/name] (means “God will strengthen”. nn could be [name]Zeke[/name]. I’m not sure if anything else would work…)

[name]Miles[/name] (one of its meanings is “peaceful”. NN could be [name]Milo[/name].)

[name]Riley[/name] (means “courageous”. I can’t really think of a nn, though. Maybe [name]Lee[/name]/[name]Leo[/name]?)

[name]Leopold[/name] (means “brave people”. nn could be [name]Leo[/name], which means “lion”)

[name]Simon[/name] (means “listening.” nn could be [name]Si[/name]? I like just [name]Simon[/name], though)

[name]Finley[/name] (means “fair-haired hero”, which is pretty cool, especially if your little boy is fair-haired! the nn [name]Finn[/name]/[name]Lee[/name]/[name]Leo[/name] is cool, too)

[name]Cyrus[/name] (means “sun, lord, throne”; the nn [name]Cy[/name] is cute)

[name]Tobias[/name]/[name]Tobin[/name] (means “God is good”. the nn [name]Toby[/name]/[name]Tobe[/name] is cute.)

[name]Ronan[/name] (means “little seal”, which I think is kinda cute. You could use the nn [name]Rowe[/name], maybe?)

[name]Jeffrey[/name]/[name]Geoffrey[/name] (which feels surnamey to me–means “God’s peace”–it feels quite dated to me, though. NN [name]Jeff[/name]? You could also use the nn [name]Free[/name], I guess…)

[name]Ezra[/name] (means “aid”–not very many nicknames, though. Maybe “Z”?)

[name]Raphael[/name]/[name]Rafael[/name] (means “God has healed”. NNs could be [name]Rafe[/name] or Raph)

[name]Schuyler[/name]/[name]Skyler[/name] (means “scholar”. nn could be [name]Sky[/name]/Schuy, I guess. The one lady I know who has a [name]Schuyler[/name] hates it when people try and call him Schuy, though, haha.)

[name]Gregory[/name] (means “watcher”. [name]Greg[/name] is an okay nn… [name]Rory[/name] could work, too)

[name]Jude[/name]/[name]Judah[/name] (means “praise; thanks”–for [name]Judah[/name] you could use the nn [name]Jude[/name])

[name]Grady[/name] (means “child of nobility”. I don’t know if there’s any nn though)

[name]Felix[/name] (means “happy, lucky”–similar in popularity to [name]Bennett[/name]'s name… you could use just [name]Felix[/name], or the nns [name]Lex[/name] or [name]Eli[/name]…)

[name]Isaiah[/name] (means “God is my salvation” - you could do nn [name]Sai[/name], maybe?)

[name]Dane[/name] (means “honorable”–you could do nn [name]Danny[/name], I suppose)

[name]August[/name] (means “venerated”–nn Auggie or [name]Gus[/name]?)

[name]Bryant[/name] (means “noble, strong”–nn Bry or [name]Ry[/name], maybe?)

[name]Zachary[/name]/[name]Zachariah[/name] (means “the [name]Lord[/name] remembers” - you could do nn [name]Zach[/name] or [name]Ari[/name])

[name]Solomon[/name] (means “peace”–nn [name]Sol[/name]?)

[name]Robert[/name] (means “bright fame”–the only nn I like for it is [name]Robbie[/name], haha)

[name]Asa[/name] (means “healer” - [name]Ace[/name] could be a nn)

[name]Henry[/name] (means “home ruler”. nn [name]Hank[/name] or [name]Harry[/name]?)

[name]Darwin[/name] (means “dear friend” which I think is lovely, and its surnamey. I don’t know about a nn, though. Maybe [name]Ari[/name], but a lot of people see that as girly…)

[name]Emery[/name] (means “bravery and power”–no real nns, though. There’s also [name]Emerson[/name], which is surnamey, which means son of [name]Emery[/name], so “son of bravery and power”, I guess. You could use the nn [name]Emery[/name] for this, too)

[name]Sterling[/name] (means “little star!” So cute. I don’t think it really has a nn though)

[name]Ephraim[/name] (means “fruitful”. No clue for a nn, though!)

[name]Jeremiah[/name]/[name]Jeremy[/name] (means “God will set free,” which is just lovely. NN [name]Remy[/name] maybe?)

[name]Conrad[/name] (means “experienced advisor”. I guess you could use [name]Con[/name] as a nn, but I don’t think it’s the greatest…)

[name]Leander[/name] (means “the lion man,” which is cool. [name]Leo[/name] is a handsome nn)

[name]Odin[/name] (means “inspiration”)

[name]Samson[/name] (means “sun”–the sweet, familiar nn of [name]Sam[/name] without the popularity of [name]Samuel[/name], if you prefer…)

[name]Lionel[/name] (means “lion”–nn [name]Leo[/name]?)

[name]Dante[/name] (means “enduring”. nn could be [name]Danny[/name] or [name]Don[/name]/[name]Donny[/name], I guess?)

[name]Eden[/name] (means “delight”. NN [name]Eddy[/name]/[name]Teddy[/name] for a little boy? Side note… I can’t believe [name]Eden[/name] is more popular on boys than [name]Bailey[/name] is…)

[name]Ignatius[/name]/[name]Ignacio[/name] (means “fiery”. NN [name]Iggy[/name]/[name]Nat[/name]/[name]Nate[/name]?)

[name]Hezekiah[/name] (means “power from God.” You could do nn [name]Zeke[/name] here, too)

[name]Roderick[/name] (means “famous ruler”. nn could be [name]Roddy[/name], or [name]Eric[/name]…)

[name]Gibson[/name] (means “laughing”. I’ve heard the nn Gibbs for this…)

[name]Lincoln[/name] and [name]Holden[/name] are nice surnamey type FNs, but they don’t have the best meanings. Still, you could use [name]Link[/name] or [name]Cole[/name] as a nn for [name]Lincoln[/name]. I also [name]LOVE[/name] the meaning of [name]Aidan[/name]–too bad it’s been taken over completely by the world. :*( It means “little fire.” I don’t know of anything that has such a cool meaning like that.

I hope some of these suggestions helped! Good luck!

Ashthedreamer gave you lots of wonderful suggestions! I really love [name]Matthew[/name] next to [name]Bennett[/name] [name]Matt[/name] and [name]Ben[/name] would be an adorable sibset. For the record too I think [name]Annabelle[/name] is equally as adorable next to [name]Bennett[/name]! Excellent Choice

Best Wishes

If you like [name]Max[/name] then maybe [name]Maximilian[/name] or [name]Maximus[/name].

I also think [name]Magnus[/name] would be nice.

We re in a similar boat with boys names, finding it very hard to agree, and since we don’t know what we are having as well, we have always been shifting focus from one gender of names to another and it feels like we never decide on anything… although I am due in [name]March[/name] so we have a little more time to work things out!
What a fantastic list from asthedreamer!! Thank you! Very helpful for me too!
I love [name]Theodore[/name] w the nickname [name]Theo[/name] (or [name]Teddy[/name] as recommended), I think that goes great with [name]Bennett[/name] and meets all your qualifications. It is currently my boys name favorite.
I would also throw out there some of the -son names like [name]Harrison[/name] (means son of [name]Harry[/name] - which is ruler/landowner, with [name]Harry[/name] or [name]Harris[/name] as a nickname) or [name]Grayson[/name] (nn [name]Grey[/name]). There are quite a few -son names that come from surnames that you could explore!
Please keep us posted on what you decide, I love all your choices!

The first thing I thought of was [name]Desmond[/name]. [name]Love[/name] the nn [name]Desi[/name]! It goes nicely with [name]Bennett[/name] in my opinion.

There’s a few names you can shorten to those you like.

Lescott nn [name]Scott[/name]

[name]Maxwell[/name]/[name]Maxim[/name]/[name]Maddox[/name] nn [name]Max[/name]

Any Mc/[name]Mac[/name]-name ([name]Mackenzie[/name], [name]McKinley[/name], McKinnon, etc) nn [name]Mac[/name]

Wow [name]Ash[/name], thank you so much! To my own surprise, you had a few names on your list that I hadn’t come across (and a few I had, but hadn’t put enough thought into). I still don’t know what “the” name is, but you have given me new hope! Thank you to everyone else who replied also…you Berries are awesome!

From the list my favourites are [name]Finley[/name] & [name]Rhys[/name]. I really, really like both of these names and think they would go great with [name]Bennett[/name], however, in my research I have found that [name]Finley[/name] is now being used more for girls than boys (I don’t know any, of either gender), and that there are more baby girls being named [name]Reese[/name]/[name]Reece[/name] than boys [name]Reece[/name]/[name]Rhys[/name]. I hate when boy names are taken over by girls boy naming is hard enough as it is! I don’t know if this is something I should let stop me? I would just hate if suddenly the name became only associated with girls & my son grew up being teased for having a girl name. The baby will almost certainly have white blond curly hair, and if he is anything like my first son, will have energy than enough!

[name]Caleb[/name], [name]Declan[/name], [name]Asher[/name], and [name]Samson[/name] are all names I have considered & like okay - just don’t think I love them. I do really like [name]Caleb[/name], and I like the nn’s Dec & [name]Ash[/name] with [name]Ben[/name].

[name]Gibson[/name] is a name I hadn’t thought of but I might actually really like…I especially like the meaning & I think the nn Gibbs is adorable.

The names [name]Jack[/name], [name]Eli[/name], [name]Jonah[/name], [name]Simon[/name], and [name]Leo[/name] (and any similar to them) are out as they have already been used by family/close friends.

[name]Jeremy[/name] is a name we have tossed around & something I will still consider. I am not sure how I feel about [name]Theodore[/name]…I feel like I don’t love it at first, but it kind of seems to grow on me the more I think about it.

I have also been considering [name]Milo[/name] even though the origins/meaning are somewhat unclear & it doesn’t really offer a nn. One of the meanings I found was [name]Grace[/name]/Favour, which is the same meaning as our girl name [name]Annabelle[/name] which I thought was kind of cool.

Okay…so my list as of now looks like this:

[name]Rhys[/name]
[name]Finley[/name]
[name]Gibson[/name]
[name]Walker[/name]
[name]Milo[/name]
[name]Archer[/name]
[name]Lucas[/name]
[name]Mattias[/name]/[name]Mateus[/name] (though i worry about pronunciation issues with these)

So what are your thoughts? I am currently 3cm dilated & Dr. thinks baby is coming very soon so all of your opinions & suggestions are very much appreciated!

I am glad I could be of some help! I really like [name]Rhys[/name] and [name]Finley[/name] a lot, and they’re really cute with [name]Bennett[/name]. I especially love [name]Rhys[/name] with your son’s name. I like [name]Milo[/name] as a MN, too. [name]Rhys[/name] [name]Milo[/name] or [name]Finley[/name] [name]Milo[/name] would be really handsome. I don’t love [name]Mattias[/name] or [name]Mateus[/name], but I love [name]Matthias[/name]… I think [name]Matthias[/name] [name]Rhys[/name] would be so handsome with [name]Bennett[/name]. And [name]Ben[/name] and [name]Matt[/name] are really adorable together.

I think [name]Milo[/name] [name]Finley[/name] and [name]Lucas[/name] [name]Archer[/name] would make nice combos from the names you like

What about [name]Miles[/name] [name]Christian[/name]? [name]Miles[/name] means soldier and so you have a [name]Christian[/name] soldier with [name]Miles[/name] [name]Christian[/name] and [name]Miles[/name] and [name]Bennett[/name] are a great match.

rollo

I wouldn’t worry about [name]Finley[/name] and [name]Rhys[/name] being used by girls, esp. [name]Rhys[/name] since it has such a long history of use by men (I would hazard that this particular spelling is the “male” spelling, too). I like [name]Rhys[/name] and [name]Bennet[/name] together!

[name]Beckett[/name] was the first thing that came to mind when you said your first son’s name is [name]Bennett[/name], though they may be too close.

[name]Luca[/name] is a nice, less popular alternative to [name]Lucas[/name]. [name]Lucan[/name] is another option.

You said you were considering [name]Scott[/name] as a nn, how about [name]Prescott[/name]. Meaning is priest cottage, a bit unusual but it has a lot of history behind it and it does go well with [name]Bennett[/name]. Good [name]Luck[/name].

I instantly thought [name]Bennett[/name] and [name]Matthias[/name] (nn [name]Matt[/name] or [name]Ty[/name]).
Best of luck, let us know what name turns out to be the “one”!

Congrats!!!

Good luck! boys names are tough. I like your choices [name]Lucas[/name] or [name]Archer[/name] and agree against [name]Lewis[/name]! Also like the suggested [name]Matthias[/name]. Some that I don’t see listed that I’ve heard recently and kind of like are:
[name]Conrad[/name] (also a fan of the more common [name]Connor[/name] or [name]Colin[/name])
[name]Josiah[/name]
[name]Dashiell[/name] (nn dash)
[name]Sion[/name] (nn [name]Si[/name])

good luck!

I just wanted to once again say thank you to everyone who has replied, your opinions & suggestions truly are appreciated.

I took the list I posted earlier to my husband tonight & he said he likes most of the names on it so I feel really great right now. I am strongly leaning towards Rhys, but I actually feel like all the names on the list are real possibilities, which is something I haven’t felt at all this pregnancy so that is an amazing relief…I am now excited, rather than anxious for this baby to come.

Dillonsfan01, thank you for your suggestions & your compliments on the name Annabelle. I really do think it just goes so well with Bennett & even if this one isn’t a girl, I hope I get to use it one day as I think it would be the cutest sibset!

kierend, I really do sympathize with you going through this naming process…best of luck in finding a boys name. The only thing I can say, is even though it took us FOREVER the name Bennett, he is now 19 months old and I love it more than any boys name I can imagine, so have faith the right name will come eventually!

Thank you to everyone who offered positive comments, especially about the name Rhys, your opinions have helped move that name to the # one spot (for the moment anyway)!

tavn, thank you for the suggestion of Luca, I like it & hubby likes it better than Lucas so that’s progress!

latergater, I like the suggestion of Dashiell & love Dash…definitely up for consideration, thank you.

Okay all, I am off to bed and for the first time in a long time (thanks to you guys) I feel like I might just get a full nights sleep without waking up panicking about boy names! Thank you again to all of you, and when this baby does make an appearance, I will be sure to let you know what we decide to go with.

[name]Rhys[/name] is an awesome name for a little guy! I don’t think you will run into the problem of him having any female classmates with that spelling - go for it!

The name that i actually first thought of for you was [name]Miles[/name] with the nickname [name]Milo[/name] - which is perfect since [name]Milo[/name] seems to be on your list! I think [name]Bennett[/name] and [name]Miles[/name] are so strikingly handsome together it hurts. And the potential nicknames of [name]Ben[/name] & [name]Milo[/name] are super sweet.

The other name that i thought of for you was [name]Everett[/name] (one of our top choices had we had another little guy) , but with the double T ending, it might be too similar to [name]Bennett[/name]. But then, it made me think that [name]Evan[/name] or [name]Ethan[/name], which could be cool options for you as well.

You may also consider [name]Griffin[/name] as an alternative to [name]Finley[/name] to still get the nickname [name]Finn[/name], but avoiding the problems that may arise with the unisex [name]Finley[/name]. [name]Bennett[/name] and [name]Griffin[/name] are really fun together! I like the double consonants giving their names a sort of tie.

[name]Bowen[/name] nn [name]Bo[/name] might also be a name to consider. Or even [name]Wesley[/name] nn [name]Wes[/name], [name]West[/name], Whitsun nn [name]Whit[/name], [name]Vaughn[/name], [name]Mason[/name], [name]Nathan[/name] nn [name]Nate[/name], [name]Rowan[/name], [name]Alexander[/name] nn [name]Xander[/name], [name]Christopher[/name] nn [name]Topher[/name], [name]Tobias[/name].

Good luck, all the best in delivery!

xoxo [name]Viv[/name]

micah…
