We would like to have a name for our precious wee girl organized sooner rather than later…
Our top names in order are:
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] (Loo-see-a) pronounced commonly this way in NZ. ([name_f]Lucy[/name_f] for short)
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f]/[name_f]Sophie[/name_f]
[name_f]Isabella[/name_f] (possibly [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]/[name_f]Ella[/name_f] for short)
I am not feeling confident about any of these names.
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] is not very common here so I am not sure of what first impression it gives?
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] is the most popular name, with our son [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]( the most popular boys name) this seems a little bland or unoriginal.
[name_f]Isabella[/name_f] is also very well used/common.
Thank you all for your help with naming big brother: [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_m]Gordon[/name_m] [name_m]David[/name_m]. We had a name from each grandpa as a middle. We would like to do the same with grandmas this time.
From DH side our options are:
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Ella[/name_f] (DH prefers this option)
[name_f]Rosaline[/name_f]
From my side:
[name_u]Lyn[/name_u] (or something with lyn, [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] is top atm)
[name_f]Grace[/name_f]
We had also had the idea of [name_f]Rosalyn[/name_f] (combining both sides into one name)
Would love to hear your thoughts/impressions of first names and ideas for first and middle combinations! Our last name is [name_m]Russell[/name_m] if this helps.
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] is gorgeous. I’m personally a fan of not using terribly popular names, so it seems like the best best. [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] & [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] are super together. [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] & [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] are lovely, but just way over done. I kind of like the idea of [name_f]Ella[/name_f] as a nn for something more interesting. Maybe…
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] - I really dislike the name [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and her variants which includes [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]. I just hear the word loose which isn’t attractive.
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] - I love this name it’s very pretty and has the lovely meaning ‘wisdom’ but it is very popular with [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] does feel uninspired.
[name_f]Isabella[/name_f] - Again really pretty choice but so popular and with [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] has a similar uninspired vibe.
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] - I used to not like this name but it’s really growing on me of recent. I like [name_f]Violet[/name_f] with [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is growing in popularity it doesn’t feel uninspired or generic which is how [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] and [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]/[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] feel.
[name_f]Ella[/name_f] - I really like [name_f]Ella[/name_f] it’s a sweet attractive name and I like it with [name_m]Oliver[/name_m].
[name_f]Rosaline[/name_f]/[name_f]Rosalyn[/name_f] - I love the name [name_f]Rose[/name_f] & her many variants including this one! Feels so unexpected with [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]. [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] & [name_f]Rosaline[/name_f]/[name_f]Rosalyn[/name_f] feels so vintage! Really charming. I would go with [name_f]Rosalyn[/name_f] out of these two because of the family connection. Would the double R of [name_f]Rosalyn[/name_f] [name_m]Russell[/name_m] put you off I think it’s fine personally but you may not like it.
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] - It’s a very pretty name feels fresh with [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] I also like [name_f]Evie[/name_f] & [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] really cute.
[name_f]Grace[/name_f] - A charming virtue name elegant & sounds cute with [name_m]Oliver[/name_m].
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] is lovely (although I prefer it pronounced the Italian way and I prefer the nickname [name_f]Lu[/name_f]/[name_u]Lou[/name_u]) and definitely the least common. [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] and [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] are both nice too, as is [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] (although I personally prefer [name_f]Isabel[/name_f]), so you really can’t go wrong! If popularity bothers you though I’d definitely go with [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]. The following are my favourite options:
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] is a winner here by a long shot! [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] and [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] are so overused lately. I love the idea of [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] & [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] “[name_u]Ollie[/name_u] & [name_u]Lou[/name_u]”.
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] sounds like the name for you based on the way you talk about your options. I am also not sure as to the impression of a [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] (having never met one either), so sorry for the lack of input on that front. Styalistically, I adore [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] with [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], and the popularity issue with [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] can be avoided.
Other -lyn options could be: [name_f]Adelyn[/name_f], Gwndolyn, [name_f]Marilyn[/name_f] and [name_f]Roselyn[/name_f] (which maybe a way to also honour [name_f]Rosaline[/name_f], if that is something you’d like).
