Due in 3 weeks and need help!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all,

3 weeks away from our girl and after an extensive name spreadsheet we are no closer to choosing! Interested in your thoughts on the below.

First, some soft guidelines we have for names:

  • Relatively easy to spell (I have an alternate spelling of a common name and I hate having to spell it all the time!)
  • Looks good on a resume or when she is a CEO/astronaut/future president
  • Would be nice if it travels well – pronounced similarly in multiple countries.
  • Dad likes long first name/short middle combos and is an initials person… also the type to think of the easiest way you can make fun of a name.
  • Trying to avoid anything super popular.

Some of our lead choices right now:

[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] - Was an early frontrunner but has faded a bit. Lots of negative reaction in the extended family to this name (and I hate the nickname [name_u]Josie[/name_u]). Dad wants to call her [name_u]JoJo[/name_u].
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] - [name_u]Love[/name_u] the meaning of this name, and how it flows. It makes sort of an unfortunate initial set with our last name (FRT), but not sure how often that will come up.
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Raine[/name_f] - This may sound silly but the music of [name_m]Prince[/name_m] had a massive influence on both our lives separately and as a couple so this one has deep meaning for both of us. Might be too gimmicky though. And [name_f]Violet[/name_f] may be too popular.
[name_f]Lilah[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] - easily my personal favorite (love it!!!) but Dad doesn’t like it very much.
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Collette[/name_f] - I worry that [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] is too popular, especially with the giraffe being ubiquitous.
[name_u]Jordan[/name_u] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] - Dad likes this one a lot – I like a lot of unisex names but I find this just ok.

Other firsts we haven’t yet paired with middles:
[name_u]Vivien[/name_u] - another Dad favorite. I’m lukewarm on it right now but could be convinced with a good middle.
[name_f]Amaya[/name_f] - We like how this sounds although Dad slightly ruined it for me when he pointed out it’s the start of a question (am I a what?). Might pair it with [name_f]Celeste[/name_f], which I think flows nicely.
[name_f]Makenna[/name_f]/[name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u]: My maiden name starts with a “[name_m]Mac[/name_m]” sound so this is a way to include my name as well. We actually both like these names a lot but we are worried they’re too trendy/not classic enough.

It doesn’t help that we both have a ton of female relatives that render many names already used or off limits. Thoughts or suggestions? [name_m]Feel[/name_m] free to mix up firsts and middles --open to anything!

[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] - aka [name_u]Joey[/name_u].
Instead of [name_u]Jordan[/name_u] - [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
Instead of [name_u]Vivien[/name_u] - [name_f]Viviana[/name_f] / [name_f]Verity[/name_f]
Instead of [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Raine[/name_f] : [name_f]Raina[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]
What about just [name_f]Kenna[/name_f] or just Kensie? I also suggest [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] (use this spelling)
Instead of [name_f]Amaya[/name_f] - [name_f]Maia[/name_f] [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] or [name_f]Amara[/name_f] [name_f]Celeste[/name_f]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Libby[/name_f] [name_u]Juniper[/name_u]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]
Other [name_u]Jordan[/name_u] alternatives: [name_u]Evan[/name_u] . [name_u]Jody[/name_u] . [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] . [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f] . [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] . [name_f]Jenna[/name_f] . [name_f]Jada[/name_f] . [name_f]Jade[/name_f]
[name_f]Tori[/name_f] . [name_u]Skye[/name_u] . [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] / [name_f]Clio[/name_f] . [name_u]June[/name_u] . [name_f]Junia[/name_f] . [name_f]Harlow[/name_f] . [name_u]Marlow[/name_u] . [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] . [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] . [name_u]Robin[/name_u] .

First, I would say if you both love [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] with nn [name_u]JoJo[/name_u] then go for it. Your family will get used to it.

[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is really pretty and the initials FRT don’t bother me much. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Raine[/name_f] is also nice; [name_f]Raine[/name_f] isn’t my cup of tea but it’s nice that you have such a deep connection to it. MN’s get used so little that I wouldn’t worry about gimmickyness; who knows, she might even think it’s a cool story!

I don’t care for [name_f]Amaya[/name_f]. [name_f]Makenna[/name_f]/[name_u]Makenzie[/name_u] could make a nice middle name. [name_u]Vivien[/name_u] [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] or [name_u]Vivien[/name_u] [name_f]Makenna[/name_f]. [name_f]Viv[/name_f] or [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] is such a cute, spunky nickname!

  • I love [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]. Would [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] or [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_u]Rain[/name_u] work? I have an aunt [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] who goes by [name_u]Jo[/name_u] which I think is cute, but I think the full name is really pretty.
  • [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Raine[/name_f] is a little over the top [name_m]Prince[/name_m] for me. Maybe [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Reina[/name_f] would be more subtle? But maybe not. Personally I don’t love the sound of [name_f]Violet[/name_f] (too close to violent I think). Maybe [name_u]Vivien[/name_u] [name_u]Rain[/name_u] would work.
  • [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] is an alternative to FRT
  • [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] is an alternative to [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] that husband might like better
  • I think [name_u]Jordan[/name_u] may feel like a mom name to today’s kids. Jordan Elise might be more exciting?
  • I agree that [name_f]McKenna[/name_f]/McKenzie are trendy

Other ideas:
[name_u]Julianne[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliana[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_u]Simone[/name_u] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Camilla[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Annalise[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]

Thanks to you both for your replies so far! Ironically, ashleyjuliette has hit on more than a few family names and others on our list. [name_f]Maia[/name_f], [name_f]Michaela[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f], and [name_u]Robin[/name_u] are already names in use in our families (sometimes in multiples). [name_f]Jillian[/name_f], [name_u]Quinn[/name_u], and [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] were also on our long list (one or the other of us loved it but the other hated it). Also, [name_u]Vivien[/name_u] just sounded a lot better with [name_f]Viv[/name_f] or [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] as options… those make it not so serious.
If I was pushed to name her today (heaven forbid), [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] would probably be my choice… but that literally changes daily. I like that it fits almost all of our criteria and it’s a name that nobody else we know has used… Maybe changing up the middle would make a difference. I just can’t shake [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] ([name_u]JoJo[/name_u]) in my head either because we’ve liked it for so long! Again, maybe it needs a different middle.
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is another one my stepdaughters particularly love but I can’t figure out a good middle for it.

Wow, [name_f]Juliana[/name_f], [name_f]Camila[/name_f], and [name_u]Simone[/name_u] were all on our list as well, with [name_f]Juliana[/name_f] ranking highest. And I mentioned [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] in my previous note… You guys are psychic! I love the suggestion of [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]… I wonder how that one will go over. I think we could both be happy with that.

I love [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Raine[/name_f] and like that it has meaning for both of you. Seeing your follow-up comments about [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], I’d like to suggest [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Rain/name_u, so that you could have the nod to [name_m]Prince[/name_m] in the middle. I have the same suggestions about [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]! Perhaps [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f], or [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_u]Rain/name_u could make you feel a bit differently about [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] and forget the negative reactions.

Those are all lovely names!! I have a few suggestions.

[name_u]Vivien[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_f]Victoria[/name_f] [name_f]Lune[/name_f]
[name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] (note that this sounds bizarre to Spanish speaking people because the two l’s will sound like a y)
[name_u]Janvier[/name_u] [name_f]Orlagh[/name_f]
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u]

You’re very welcome.
