We finally settled on [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] for our 4th daughter a few months ago. Im having cold feet and want to get some feedback.

Big sisters are:
Ser@fina ([name_f]Fina[/name_f])
Be@trice ([name_f]Bee[/name_f])
Ingr!d ([name_f]Indie[/name_f])

I’m still not ready to let go of [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], one of our “almost” used names for several of our girls.
Also, I cringe at the thought of [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] being shortened to yet another “[name_u]Mattie[/name_u]/[name_f]Maddie[/name_f]” but we are definitely a nickname-family and I’ve even found myself slipping and calling her that.

What do you like better with big sisters names?

[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] or [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]?

I love [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] and the nn [name_f]Goldie[/name_f] for her sisters [name_f]Fina[/name_f], [name_f]Bee[/name_f], and Idie. Although [name_f]Goldie[/name_f] may be too close to [name_f]Indie[/name_f].
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] nn [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] is the way I would go with her sisters names if you find [name_f]Goldie[/name_f] and [name_f]Indie[/name_f] too close but honestly each are lovely names and you can’t go wrong. I would go with what you love most.

I love your girls’ names! [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]/[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] are at the top of my list, along with [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]. I would personally go with [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], nn [name_f]Goldie[/name_f]. It’s just perfect!

Thanks guys! My husband likes [name_f]Milly[/name_f]/[name_f]Tilly[/name_f] so we agreed we would try to shorten it to that (even though I’m not a huge fan of either) but for some reason [name_u]Mattie[/name_u] just keeps coming out! But seeing as how [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] is still a favorite, I think we will keep it for now :slight_smile:

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_f]Mae[/name_f]/[name_f]May[/name_f] is too much of a nickname stretch? Any other nicknames I haven’t thought of?

I love both, and both go well with sisters. Personally I think [name_u]Mattie[/name_u] is adorable (I prefer it to [name_f]Tilly[/name_f]). Is the only reason you cringe due to popularity? If you’ve already begun to ‘slip’ and use [name_u]Mattie[/name_u], and this is problematic for you, I’d say go with [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]. However, if popularity is the only hesitation with [name_u]Mattie[/name_u], and you love [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], I say embrace it. Good luck!

I don’t think [name_f]May[/name_f] is too much of a stretch.

I admit, my main reason for not loving [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] is the nickname [name_u]Mattie[/name_u].

[name_f]Addie[/name_f]/[name_f]Attie[/name_f] could also be an option, though I’m a lover of [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] and [name_f]Tildy[/name_f].

I love the name [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]! I also love [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]! What if you kept both names in the running and when you see her you see who she looks like? I picture [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] with dark hair and [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] with blonde.

I love both names, though I think [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] called [name_f]Goldie[/name_f] is the better option by just a smidge. I loved PP’s idea of [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] though! That’s adorable

I don’t really like the nn [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] for [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] or [name_f]Goldie[/name_f] for [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], though. Since you have [name_f]Indie[/name_f] as a nn for [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f], what about a nickname that has a less direct link to either [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] or [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]:

[name_f]Ilda[/name_f] is an Albanian name (EEl dah) that might work for [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] but it is kind of hard for English speakers.

Thanks for all the great suggestions! I have a few issues with [name_f]Maddie[/name_f]/[name_u]Mattie[/name_u]…popularity, some weird name associations and I just don’t love the sound of it.

Everlymiarose - I had that same thought! It might be a good option :slight_smile: Although our last daughter came out with strawberry blonde hair so that might throw us off a bit! :slight_smile:

Emiliafisher - great suggestions! I like [name_f]Mimi[/name_f]. I don’t like [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] either, but I think [name_f]Goldie[/name_f] is kind of sweet. I also heard [name_f]Margo[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] which I think is super cute :slight_smile:

I really like [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]. It’s a lovely sounding name with a beautiful association.

I love [name_f]Tillie[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] always call her that and it should stick.

[name_f]Matilda[/name_f], definitely. The only nickname I really like is [name_f]Tilda[/name_f], but [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] would work with your other girls’ names too.
