After much deliberation and debate (we have trouble agreeing), Daddy and I have managed to whittle our long list of possibilities down to four potential names for our little guy…little brother to [name]Iris[/name].
[name]Hamish[/name] (we have Scottish roots and love everything Scottish but can I actually do it?? I find this is such a strong name which usually provokes a polarized reaction- people either love it or strongly dislike it)
[name]Atticus[/name] (too much with our last name? any nicknames besides [name]Attie[/name]?)
[name]Huxley[/name] nn [name]Huck[/name] (feel like the ending -ley is kind of trendy? this is not at the top of Hubby’s list, but I like it and he may consider it)
[name]Amory[/name] (Very significant as it’s my great-grandmother’s maiden name, at the top of Hubby’s list, just not sure)
Problem is that I keep second guessing all of these options. Our last name is Officer (which I find so hard to work with) and we are thinking of using the middle names [name]Isaac[/name] and/or [name]James[/name] (both significant to us).
Any opinions or thoughts on any of these? Any alternatives?
[name]Love[/name] the name [name]Huxley[/name] we have it on our list for our 3rd boy due Feb would not use [name]Huck[/name] nn but Hux maybe. [name]Love[/name] [name]Issac[/name] too.
What about [name]Hudson[/name]? Not sure if [name]Amory[/name] Officer works!
I love [name]Huxley[/name]. [name]Aldous[/name] [name]Huxley[/name]'s “Brave New World” is one of my favorite books! However it’s growing popularity would probably make it a no-go for me.
Given the significance of [name]Amory[/name] to your family, I’d stick with that!
On your other options:
[name]Atticus[/name] definitely seems like too much with your ln.
[name]Hamish[/name] is just nms.
I like [name]Huxley[/name] (on my list) and [name]Hamish[/name] best from your list. [name]James[/name] is always a good middle name. It lets you be a little more “out there” on the first name and then pulls it all together to sound more classic. And I don’t think [name]Hamish[/name] is that crazy, by the way.
[name]Hamish[/name] [name]Isaac[/name] O… Instead of [name]Ham[/name], you could call him Hio (his initials) for short. Or [name]Misha[/name], like Barishnikov! :-b I find [name]Hamish[/name] really handsome. A bit stuffy at first, but also rugged and very Scottish. It seems like a name a boy could grow into and make his own.
[name]Amory[/name] [name]James[/name] O… I like this one, just not sure of pronunciation (too much “aim” sound?) I do like how the clean, masculine [name]James[/name] grounds the soft, cheerful, somewhat unisex [name]Amory[/name].
[name]Huxley[/name] and [name]Atticus[/name] feel too aggressive to me with your last name.
I like [name]Huxley[/name] and [name]Atticus[/name]. [name]Huxley[/name] doesn’t sound trendy to me. I also like [name]Hamish[/name], but I would think people might shorten it to “Hay” or “[name]Mitch[/name]”. [name]Mitch[/name] I am not a fan of and Hay Officer sounds kinda funny. Not a huge deal really, it is a good name. [name]Amory[/name] is nice, but I don’t love it.
Definitely [name]Amory[/name] for me! I love the sound, meaning, history, pretty much everything about it. I can imagine having your last name would make picking a name rather difficult. I’m not sure how [name]Amory[/name] Officer sounds, but I still like it the best.
Second would be [name]Hamish[/name].
[name]Huxley[/name] is becoming very trendy, and if you don’t already love it then I wouldn’t use it. [name]Atticus[/name] seems to sound the worst with your last name. Also, many people consider it to be pretentious. It’s a really handsome name, but the fact that it has such a strong literary connection makes it difficult to use. It’s like “Oh, yes. Please tell me how much you enjoyed the book!”
So, yeah. I pick [name]Amory[/name]. And I think [name]Amory[/name] [name]James[/name] Officer works better than [name]Isaac[/name].
I think all your names are great! I like [name]Atticus[/name] but not with sister [name]Iris[/name] since they both have the same sound at the end. That would eliminate it from my list if I were you…but im picky that way For some reason [name]Amory[/name] sounds like an adjective to me with last name officer. That leaves [name]Hamish[/name] and [name]Huxley[/name]. I like [name]Huxley[/name] better overall so [name]Huxley[/name] [name]James[/name] Officer gets my vote.
Oh my goodness I adore [name]Huxley[/name]! I love [name]Aldous[/name] [name]Huxley[/name]! I don’t think it sounds trendy at all. -ley is a semi-popular ending with girls, but the U and X in there make it sound unique.
[name]Amory[/name] [name]Isaac[/name] Officer or [name]Huxley[/name] [name]James[/name] Officer gets my vote. I especially like the significance of [name]Amory[/name] to you.
[name]Hamish[/name] is a form of [name]James[/name].
Definitely [name]Hamish[/name]! [name]Both[/name] [name]Hamish[/name]'s I know get so many compliments on their name. It’s a winner. It’s Scottish for [name]James[/name], but [name]Isaac[/name] sounds great with it.
[name]Amory[/name] and [name]Huxley[/name] are great options too, but I’m not a fan of [name]Atticus[/name].
I love your daughter’s name! [name]Iris[/name] is just gorgeous. I think [name]Atticus[/name] is my favorite–I think [name]Huxley[/name] sounds good with both [name]Iris[/name] and Officer, but I just love [name]Atticus[/name], and all the associations it brings, and I think [name]Iris[/name] and [name]Atticus[/name] are very lovely together.
I too like [name]Amory[/name] ([name]Amory[/name] [name]Blaine[/name], anyone)? I would also quite like [name]Aldous[/name] itself, in place of huckster [name]Huxley[/name].
