Due in four days! urgently need ANY advice and help! totally lost :[

I am booking a C-section for a breech baby boy on [name]Jan[/name] 28. We are getting lost finding our first beloved baby boy a solid name. My friend recommended nameberry yesterday. So hopefully we could get some hints or clues about the last-minute decision at here. Any name not on the list is highly welcomed too. Thank you everyone! :rolleyes

- Something about the background -

:: We live in the east coast of [name]Canada[/name] which the ocean is 10 minutes away from where we live and work everyday. [name]Both[/name] of us spent the 4 year college life here. More importantly, my husband and I met in the airport of this city. So this city means a lot to us. “[name]Hali[/name]” means the sea and is the first four letters of the city. But I wonder how to correctly pronounce “[name]Hali[/name]” and if people think that “[name]Hali[/name]” is just an incomplete (word)name.

:: I really like the meaning of “[name]Theodore[/name]” which is “God’s gift and brave man”.

:: My husband does like [name]Hali[/name], [name]Wells[/name], doesn’t like [name]Theo[/name], [name]Theodore[/name], [name]Flynn[/name], has no feelings about [name]Hearst[/name], [name]Ethan[/name], [name]Arther[/name], [name]Raphael[/name].

:: [name]Baby[/name]'s last name starts with “L” and ends with “U” and it’s a short last name

So names on our list are:

No.1 [name]Theo[/name]
No.2 [name]Hali[/name]
No.3 [name]Wells[/name]
No.4 [name]Flynn[/name]
No.5 [name]Hearst[/name]
No.6 [name]Ethan[/name]
No.7 [name]Arther[/name] ooops typo, means Arthur
No.8 [name]Raphael[/name]

[name]Hali[/name] seems like a girls’ name to me, and I’m kind of confused about it/its pronunciation. But I really like the sentiment. Can you try to incorporate it into the middle name?

My number one choice off your list is totally [name]Theo[/name]/[name]Theodore[/name], but if your husband doesn’t like them…I don’t know. Convince him? Haha. My other favorites are [name]Ethan[/name] and [name]Raphael[/name], which are very different from each other but both strong names. The others seem incomplete to me, except [name]Arther[/name] which is just not my style.

I love the names [name]Flynn[/name], [name]Ethan[/name] and [name]Arthur[/name]!
[name]Hearst[/name] sounds like the car (Hearse) that takes away dead people…
[name]Theodore[/name] is really popular at the moment, it is a cute name when they are little but when they are older (teen/middle age) would it still
fit?

Good luck and hope everything goes well !

[name]Don[/name]'t worry – you will find something, even if it’s not until after he’s born. Something will feel right when you meet him if it doesn’t before.

[name]Theodore[/name]: I love this name – this is at the top of my list right now, so this would absolutely get my vote.
[name]Hali[/name]: I was surprised that this is a valid boy’s name (I looked it up). It sounds all girl to me, especially with [name]Halle[/name] [name]Berry[/name], and the girl’s name [name]Haley[/name]. I would also think it might be weird to be named after the town you grow up in, even if it does have special significance to your parents. Seems like it would be better as a middle name.
[name]Wells[/name]: This also sounds more like a middle to me because it sounds like a surname.
[name]Flynn[/name]: I love this name!
[name]Hearst[/name]: Ditto [name]Wells[/name]
[name]Ethan[/name]: Another name I love that has gotten unfortunately popular. If it’s not popular where you are, I vote for this one!
[name]Arther[/name]: [name]Do[/name] you mean [name]Arthur[/name]? I’ve never seen it with an “e” and it’s not listed as a name on this site. It could be from a culture I’m not familiar with though. I love [name]Arthur[/name], but it seems like a bit much for a little kid. I’m not sure I’d be able to use it. I would love to meet a little [name]Arthur[/name], though.
[name]Raphael[/name]: I’m kind of “eh” about this one. It sounds very Italian or Spanish, neither of which I am, so I don’t think I could use it. If you love it and feel comfortable using it even if you’re not either of those things, more power to you. It’s a great name.

Some suggestions based on your list:
[name]August[/name]/[name]Augustus[/name]
[name]Rafferty[/name]
[name]Rafe[/name]
[name]Henry[/name]
[name]Harry[/name]
[name]Finnegan[/name]
[name]Hadley[/name] (famously a girl’s name, but still masculine in my mind)
[name]Samson[/name]
[name]Maximilian[/name]
[name]Trent[/name]

Good luck!

I’m being critical, but maybe it will help?

No.1 [name]Theo[/name] - nice, but may have to spend his whole like saying, “I’m not [name]Theodore[/name].”
No.2 [name]Hali[/name] - on a boy? I would say [name]Hal[/name]-ee, like the girl’s name.
No.3 [name]Wells[/name] - is too last name sounding, even for me (I like [name]Fitzwilliam[/name] as a guilty pleasure)
No.4 [name]Flynn[/name] - I really like this one, apart from the “lynn” feminine connection
No.5 [name]Hearst[/name] - as in a hearse?
No.6 [name]Ethan[/name] - not bad, really soft sounding, so would work if you have a hard-sounding surname
No.7 [name]Arther[/name] - will spend his whole life correcting people who spell it [name]Arthur[/name].
No.8 [name]Raphael[/name] - nice angel connection, but [name]Raffi[/name] throws me off

Hai means sea in Chinese, and is sort of similar to [name]Hali[/name]…though pronounced “HIE”…I don’t know how helpful that is.
[name]Conway[/name] means holy water in Welsh.
(from behind the name.com)

[name]Hali[/name] has a lot of teasing potential, firstly it sounds feminine plus he would always get “[name]Hali[/name] from [name]Halifax[/name]”. The thought behind it is nice but wearing it daily could be difficult.
I love [name]Flynn[/name], [name]Wells[/name] and [name]Theo[/name] from your list.

[name]Hali[/name] does seem distinctly feminine, but would work fine as a middle name if it has great meaning to you and your husband. I would pronounce it like the name [name]Sally[/name] but with an H instead of an S.

[name]Wells[/name] is my personal favorite on that list. It strikes me as warm and sturdy… a solid yet gentle name. Distinctive too. [name]Theodore[/name], nickname [name]Theo[/name], is a classic. And I can’t say I dislike any name on your list. They’re all great choices.

I’ll recommend [name]Heath[/name], [name]Oliver[/name], and [name]Sinclair[/name]… just because.

[name]Hi[/name]!

I loved the name [name]Theo/name but my husband couldn’t get over the [name]Alvin[/name] and the Chipmunk character connection, we chose [name]Archer[/name] ([name]Archie[/name]) for our second son instead.

A couple of suggestions:
[name]Ronan[/name] (“little seal”)
[name]Dylan[/name] (“son of the sea”)
[name]Felix[/name] (“fortunate”)

I’m sure once you meet the little guy you will know what the right name is!

Good luck!

Thought: If you like [name]Hali[/name]… how about [name]Henry[/name] nn [name]Hal[/name]?

[name]Hagan[/name] instead of [name]Hali[/name] (too girly)?

wow guys Thank you very much!!! I really appreciate that. I read all replies one by one VERY carefully. And it makes more sense now. [name]Hali[/name] does have full of sentiments but I do admit that it’s not very appropriate. We may consider it as a part of the middles. [name]Arther[/name] is actually a typo sorry for the confusion lol. And thank you heaps for all the new name suggestions, I really like some of them. I guess I will need more time to sort out the list again.

I like the idea of using the nn [name]Hal[/name]. Could be short for [name]Henry[/name], [name]Harold[/name], [name]Harry[/name]

I agree that [name]Hali[/name] is quite feminine. Makes me think of [name]Halle[/name] [name]Berry[/name], the actress.

Off your list, I like [name]Ethan[/name] the most by far.

Some suggestions;
[name]Dylan[/name], means son of the sea
[name]Harrison[/name], could be a [name]Hali[/name] derivative. Cute name!
[name]Wyatt[/name], better than [name]Wells[/name] which does sound like a last name to me.

Good luck! The perfect name will come to you at the right time.

[name]Love[/name] [name]Halifax[/name] as a middle, especially since it has meaning to you. Congratulations!

I like [name]Arthur[/name] or [name]Ethan[/name]. It’s a bummer that you don’t both love [name]Theodore[/name], but you’ve got some solid choices.

Maybe [name]Hali[/name] could be used as a middle name, since it has an important meaning to you.

If I had to rate your list from best to worst…

1.[name]Theo[/name] (although I like [name]Theodore[/name] better)
2.[name]Ethan[/name]
3.[name]Flynn[/name]
4.[name]Arthur[/name]
5.[name]Raphael[/name]
6.[name]Wells[/name]
7.[name]Hearst[/name]
8.[name]Hali[/name]

EDIT : Hopefully when your husband sees these responses, he will change his mind on some of those that he doesn’t have much feelings for.

Otherwise, I would suggest

  • Thomas
  • Henry
  • Riker
  • Nathan
  • Nathaniel
  • Isaiah
  • Isaac
  • Perry
  • Harrison
  • Miles
  • James
  • Samuel
  • Evan

[name]Hale[/name] might work well for a boy.

I really like seanic21’s suggestion of [name]Dylan[/name]. I do agree that [name]Hali[/name] sounds a little feminine but I definitely believe it could be used as a middle name. Good luck!

It’s unfortunate your husband isn’t on board with [name]Theodore[/name], such an awesome name. What about [name]Thaddeus[/name] or [name]Thelonius[/name] or Theodus? [name]Theo[/name] is okay, but it feels incomplete to me.
I agree that [name]Hali[/name] seems very feminine, and though it does have several levels of significance, I think it might be hard for a boy to carry. Maybe a MN?
You both seem to be on board with [name]Wells[/name], not my personal choice, but seems like an okay ‘just-in-case’ option.
[name]Flynn[/name] is another name I really like, unfortunate your husband doesn’t. What about some of the [name]Finn[/name] related names ([name]Finian[/name], [name]Phineas[/name], [name]Finlay[/name], [name]Finnigan[/name], [name]Fintan[/name], etc)?
[name]Hearst[/name] I’m not a fan of, sounds like ‘hearse’
[name]Ethan[/name] would be a great name, I just don’t like how crazily common it’s become (#7 in the US).
[name]Arthur[/name] is a solid option, ancient, historic, cool NN ([name]Art[/name]).
[name]Raphael[/name] is also another solid option, ancient, historic.

It’s a little hard for me to figure out exactly what suggestions for other names based on the list you’ve made, but here’s a few:

[name]Thaddeus[/name]
[name]Thelonius[/name]
Theodus
[name]Theodorus[/name]
[name]Finlay[/name]
[name]Phineas[/name]
[name]Fintan[/name]
[name]Finian[/name]
[name]Finnigan[/name]
[name]Leonidas[/name]
[name]Leo[/name]
[name]Lionel[/name]
[name]Darnell[/name]
[name]Stellan[/name]
[name]Callum[/name]
[name]Ellery[/name]
[name]Ellis[/name]
[name]Elliott[/name]
[name]Malcolm[/name]
[name]Heron[/name]
[name]Asa[/name]

Some other suggestions:
– [name]Halifax[/name] was named after [name]George[/name] [name]Montague[/name]-Dunk, 2nd [name]Earl[/name] of [name]Halifax[/name], so you could use [name]George[/name] or [name]Montague[/name].
– [name]Edward[/name], after [name]Edward[/name] Cornwallis, founder of [name]Halifax[/name]
– [name]Brendan[/name] (apparently [name]Brendan[/name] the [name]Navigator[/name] is the patron saint of mariners)
– [name]Hale[/name] or [name]Hayle[/name] (instead of [name]Hali[/name])
– [name]Kai[/name] (means “sea” on Hawaiian)
– [name]Barrett[/name] ([name]Just[/name] throwing this out there. In university we used to sing the song “[name]Barrett[/name]'s privateers” a lot, which ends up with the narrator “on a [name]Halifax[/name] pier”)
