sounds like you like [name]Oliver[/name] the most…just don’t use a nickname…

Our oldest child is named [name]Oliver[/name]. We love the name and no one has ever called him “[name]Ollie[/name]” or anything else. He loves his name, too, even though he is only 4 1/2!

Go with what you love.

I agree that you should go with [name]Oliver[/name] if that is your favorite name - no nickname needed.

What are your middle name ideas?

Realistically [name]Oliver[/name] will get a nn and it probably will be ‘[name]Ollie[/name]’. I am not saying you will give him a nn but I am sure that his peers will do so, esp as teenagers, and there is not much we parents can do to block this tendency.

If you love [name]Oliver[/name] then give him this name and don’t shorten it yourselves but be prepared for the [name]Ollie[/name] nn sometime during his life.

[name]Hi[/name]! Another vote for [name]Oliver[/name]! I really, really love [name]Oliver[/name], and more importantly, it’s your favorite! I know of two Olivers who are only called [name]Oliver[/name], not [name]Ollie[/name], so it’s definitely possible for an [name]Oliver[/name] to avoid nicknames.

In second place, I’ll put [name]Nathaniel[/name], with [name]William[/name] in third.

Good luck!

I’m going to switch it up and vote for [name]Nathaniel[/name], wholeheartedly. It appears to be the only one on your list that has absolutely no issues. My second choice would be [name]Oliver[/name], but you said you don’t like [name]Ollie[/name]…

[name]How[/name] about a compromise - [name]Nathaniel[/name] [name]Oliver[/name]?

I voted for [name]Noah[/name]… it was a favorite of mine for almost 20 years…starting to love it again…despite its popularity (sigh)

[name]Nathaniel[/name]!!! Please, please, pick [name]Nathaniel[/name]! It’s sooo great!
I like [name]William[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name] too but [name]Nathaniel[/name] is best.

It’s reassuring to hear that not everyone named [name]Oliver[/name] is automatically nn’d [name]Ollie[/name]. If I think about it most people in real life are ASKED what they prefer to be called. Thanks again and I like many of your suggestions but I’m pretty set on the ones I have because they go so well with my last name. A last name can really dictate and limit your options unfortunately  Thanks so much for the great list. Maybe some of these will work after all…

I like [name]Nathaniel[/name] [name]Oliver[/name] but I’m in love with his MN so I’m sticking with it. It looks like it’ll have to be one or the other  I love your suggestion though…very tempting hehe

[name]Noah[/name]-- love it! and I personally wouldn’t worry about another family member possibly using it. I just think it’s such a handsome name.
[name]Nathaniel[/name] ([name]Nate[/name])-- meh, not my favorite, but it’s certainly a fine name.
[name]William[/name] ([name]Will[/name])-- [name]LOVE[/name]! It’s not my personal taste, but I think it is so effortlessly timeless and handsome and ages well. [name]Love[/name] [name]Will[/name], also love nn [name]Liam[/name].
[name]Maddox[/name]-- I can see the appeal, but I can’t picture a 70 year old man named [name]Maddox[/name]. Since I feel a name should work for all ages, I’d pass on [name]Maddox[/name].
[name]Oliver[/name]-- I’ve never understood the appeal. I always think of [name]Oliver[/name] Twist.

Best wishes to you and your family!

Yep, the Olivers I know are definitely [name]Oliver[/name], and nothing else. Like you said, people will ask him what he prefers, and if he introduces himself as [name]Oliver[/name], I’m guessing that’s what people will call him. I know people named [name]James[/name] who are only [name]James[/name], Elizabeths who are only [name]Elizabeth[/name], Katherines who are only Katherines, and even Victorias who are only [name]Victoria[/name], so it’s definitely possible to avoid a nickname.

I’m glad you liked some of the names on the list…I wasn’t sure if you were still looking. You have so many great names on your list!

Take care!

I’ll be tossing around names until he arrives. I’m due tomorrow but apparently only 5% of women deliver on their due dates so I’m not holding my breath. I was kind of hoping he’d be early! But I guess not sigh lol. Now it’s just a waiting game…

I’m only concerned because I’m afraid they’ll think I stole it from them or something. I really don’t want to cause a “thing” ya know? I [name]DO[/name] love the name. I’m worried that it’s a little too popular though…what do you think?

I picked [name]Noah[/name], because I’m in a [name]Noah[/name] mood. But I would have picked [name]Nathaniel[/name] if his nn were [name]Nathan[/name]. [name]Nate[/name] makes me think of a bottom - sorry! Also love [name]William[/name] nn [name]Will[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name] so much. I’ve known several Olivers who went by [name]Oliver[/name]. No [name]Ollie[/name] for them.

Why does [name]Nate[/name] make you think of a bottom? lol I never heard that before! :stuck_out_tongue:
