Hello! I am new to Nameberry and noticed there are a ton of people on these forums who have amazing ideas and feedback, so thought I would give this a shot
My husband and I are due in two weeks with our first (a girl) and are having SO much trouble picking names! I think I’m struggling as I have a long, complicated Dutch last name and his surname is pronounced “bee-dee” - quite the opposite as it’s short, rhymes, etc.
I’m trying to focus on names which are sophisticated enough for a career/resume, but also won’t leave her spelling her name out for the rest of her life. I’m not a huge fan of very unique, alternative or eclectic names - tend to stick more to the tried and true.
My husband really likes [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]. He’s also mentioned [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] which kind of surprised me!
I’ve been leaning towards [name_f]Emily[/name_f], [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_f]Chloe[/name_f].
congratulations on your first sweet babe! all your names are lovely. juliet stands out to me! it’s recognizable, yet unique, sophisticated, and charming.
I totally love the [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] idea, its not a unique name, but she also wont be one of four other girls in her class with her name, and it sounds beautiful as is, and very sweet but also powerful and sophisticated as [name_u]July[/name_u] or [name_u]Jules[/name_u]. I think its a great name for a baby girl, and a grown up woman as well
I like [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] and [name_f]Claire[/name_f] the best. Is “bee-dee” going to be her last name, or will you hyphenate your last name and his? I ask because the other names have the ee sound repeated in them as well as both syllables of your husband’s last name.
Thank you all so much for your responses and suggestions! We are going to go through them together. I really appreciate it!
[name_f]Susan[/name_f] - yes, her last name will just be “bee-dee”. His siblings are all female and have names ending in the “ee” as well - maybe we’re just accustomed to the sound because of that and are gravitating towards similar names?
