Due Monday - Super Honest Opinions Requested. Thanks!

I’ve posted the list my husband and I have for our son in an earlier post : Nameberry - Welcome to the Nameberry Forums. The comments were really helpful. We’re waiting to see what he looks like before naming, but I want real opinions on 1. perceptions of names (too nerdy/trendy/boring), 2. name flow, 3. combo options, and 4. whether or not 2 middles is okay. Below is our list in no particular order. [name]Thomas[/name] is an option for a second middle for all the names, as it’s my maiden name. Another name we like is [name]Arthur[/name]. [name]Feel[/name] free to give an honest opinion, and suggest different combinations of names. Much appreciated.

  1. [name]Ezra[/name] [name]John[/name]
  2. [name]John[/name] [name]Ezra[/name]
  3. [name]Louis[/name] [name]Ephraim[/name]
  4. [name]Louis[/name] [name]Edmund[/name]
  5. [name]George[/name] [name]Leland[/name]
  6. [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Elias[/name]

I think that [name]Thomas[/name] sounds fine as a 2nd middle name after all of the names except [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Elias[/name]. Of all of the names, I like [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Elias[/name] best - he sounds smart and spunky and i really like the nickname [name]Theo[/name]. I do hear [name]Theo[/name] discussed on this site quite often but not sure how indicative that is of the name’s actual popularity. Would you pronounce [name]Louis[/name] with or without an ‘s’ sound at the end?

[name]Louis[/name] [name]Edmund[/name]

[name]Ezra[/name] [name]John[/name] and [name]John[/name] [name]Ezra[/name] are my two favourites. [name]John[/name] is a classic but it’s not very popular. That is, in some ways, a sweet place to be. People know what it is and how to spell it and say it but there won’t be three in the class… unless you call him [name]Jack[/name] for short, which he can do if he ever wants to fit in.

[name]Ezra[/name] one of my favourite Biblical names and isn’t too long or hard to spell or say for anybody. I do like [name]Ephraim[/name] but not quite as much.

[name]Theodore[/name] is overused for me or it’s not that popular and I just coincidentally know way too many Theodores, Theos, and Teds (some Teds are Theodores and some are Edwards but either way I know too many Teds).

I really adore [name]Edmund[/name] but I can’t take [name]Louis[/name]. [name]John[/name] [name]Edmund[/name] or [name]Edmund[/name] [name]John[/name] would be very nice.

  1. [name]Ezra[/name] [name]John[/name] - I like [name]Ezra[/name], but would not use it myself.
  2. [name]John[/name] [name]Ezra[/name] - While I do like this combo, I would, personally, not be too crazy about using the #1 boy name in ALL of history as a first name.
  3. [name]Louis[/name] [name]Ephraim[/name] - I like [name]Louis[/name], and I like [name]Ephraim[/name] okay as a mn, but they are not ideal together.
  4. [name]Louis[/name] [name]Edmund[/name] - I like [name]Louis[/name], and I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Edmund[/name]! Nice combo.
  5. [name]George[/name] [name]Leland[/name] - NMS, especially [name]Leland[/name]. I like [name]George[/name] better in the middle.
  6. [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Elias[/name] - Great! Handsome name.

My favorites on your list are: [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Elias[/name] and [name]Louis[/name] [name]Edmund[/name]. However, I like the idea of [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Edmund[/name] best of all. I also like [name]Edmund[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] and [name]Edmund[/name] [name]Louis[/name].

P.S. Given that [name]Thomas[/name] is your maiden name, I think you should definitely use it. However, my preference would be to use it as the only middle name (or as the first name).

[name]Theodore[/name] [name]Thomas[/name]
[name]Edmund[/name] [name]Thomas[/name]
[name]Thomas[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]

I love all your combos, except number 2 (just because [name]John[/name] is a touch too boring for a first name), and the last one ([name]Theodore[/name] is a bit stodgy for my liking).

[name]Ezra[/name] [name]John[/name] is a standout - [name]Ezra[/name] is fantastic.
I also love [name]Louis[/name] and [name]George[/name] as first names. I would love [name]Louis[/name] [name]Edmund[/name] or [name]George[/name] [name]Elias[/name].

[name]Love[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Elias[/name]! Normally I would go for anything with [name]Ezra[/name] in it but not when paired with [name]John[/name], sorry.
[name]Theodore[/name] [name]Elias[/name] is a nice combination

opinion, and suggest different combinations of names. Much appreciated.

  1. [name]Ezra[/name] [name]John[/name] - boring to me
  2. [name]John[/name] [name]Ezra[/name] - I’m sorry, But I believe giving a child the name [name]John[/name] is just mean. In this day and age it’s [name]John[/name] doe, and [name]John[/name] as in toilet. I understand it’s an old name, one that should fade away though. [name]IMO[/name]
  3. [name]Louis[/name] [name]Ephraim[/name] - NMS but probably the one I would vote for - it’s a bit more unique and less generic.
  4. [name]Louis[/name] [name]Edmund[/name] - 2nd choice, also NMS
  5. [name]George[/name] [name]Leland[/name] - blah, generic
  6. [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Elias[/name] - Cute, but I always find theodore pretentious

You might like [name]Edwin[/name], [name]Elliott[/name],[name]Elijah[/name], [name]Benjamin[/name] -all popular names.

[name]Ezra[/name] [name]John[/name] is nice but I prefer [name]John[/name] [name]Ezra[/name]- it flows better. [name]Ezra[/name] [name]John[/name] [name]Arthur[/name] or [name]John[/name] [name]Ezra[/name] [name]Thomas[/name] work

[name]Louis[/name] [name]Ephraim[/name] stands out more than [name]Edmund[/name], don’t think either needs a 2nd nn

Prefer [name]Leland[/name] [name]George[/name]. [name]George[/name] is so heavy. [name]Leland[/name] [name]George[/name] [name]Arthur[/name] is nice

[name]Theodore[/name] [name]Elias[/name] doesn’t need a 2nd mn

As is, I like [name]John[/name] [name]Ezra[/name] & [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Elias[/name] but [name]Leland[/name] [name]George[/name] is more unique and unexpected

[name]Theodore[/name] [name]Elias[/name] or [name]John[/name] [name]Ezra[/name]! Amazing, balanced, handsome combinations! You have fabulously sophisticated taste!

[name]Theodore[/name] [name]Elias[/name] is my favorite

Congratulations on your baby coming so soon! I don’t think [name]Thomas[/name] would sound bad with the names you’ve chosen, and I like the idea of using your maiden name, but I’m not big on double middles. I would be even less likely to use them on a boy. That’s just my opinion. I’d probably wait and use [name]Thomas[/name] as the middle for another son.

I really like both [name]Ezra[/name] [name]John[/name] and [name]John[/name] [name]Ezra[/name]. [name]Ezra[/name] is fresher, so I’d probably vote for [name]Ezra[/name] [name]John[/name], but I like them both. They both flow well. I’d also like [name]Ezra[/name] [name]Thomas[/name].

I’m not crazy about [name]Louis[/name], because of the pronunciation issues and perhaps because my middle is [name]Louise[/name] so it makes me think of a girls’ name. I don’t think it’s a bad name, just would prefer [name]Ezra[/name] or [name]John[/name].

[name]George[/name] [name]Leland[/name] seems like a nice name, but both names seem like “old man” names. Personally, I would pair one or the other with a spunkier name like [name]Ezra[/name] [name]Leland[/name].

[name]Theodore[/name] [name]Elias[/name]-- just not crazy about [name]Theodore[/name], but maybe it’s just because it reminds me of one of the chipmunks. That might just be totally silly. Still, I like some of your others much more!

Good luck!!

Such great comments! Thanks everyone! A few more bits of information. [name]John[/name] would be an honor name of a very important man in my life. I realize it’s historically the most popular boys name, and that would normally be a huge turn off, but the association it carries is a fantastic one. I’m leaning more and more away from [name]Louis[/name] (which we would have pronounced the English way). It’s a great name, but it doesn’t feel like “my kid’s name” if that makes any sense. [name]Edmund[/name] is also an honor name as my husband’s and my grandfather’s middle names are [name]Edward[/name], and my dad’s middle name is [name]Edwin[/name]. I wanted an “[name]Ed[/name]” name that gave honor, but was all his own.

A question: Does [name]Ezra[/name] feel too trendy? [name]Will[/name] it seem like a dated name? I’ve heard of a few girls with the name [name]Ezra[/name] gag. [name]Do[/name] you think it will become a gender neutral name? I can see it as both a Biblical/1880s farmer name and a cutesy trendy name. I’d prefer the former.

I would looooooove too see [name]George[/name] [name]Thomas[/name] as an option. [name]George[/name] is on of my favs!

I [name]ADORE[/name] [name]Ezra[/name] [name]John[/name], [name]Louis[/name] [name]Ephraim[/name] and [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Elias[/name]. I think all are modern twists on classic, handsome names.

[name]John[/name] [name]Ezra[/name] works well with or without [name]Thomas[/name], but they’re not really names I like (except for [name]Thomas[/name] <3) … same with George Leland.

Theodore Elias works well with or without Thomas AND I love the name Theodore, and like the name Elias … this is my vote! <3

I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Elias[/name]! [name]Just[/name] love! The rest are just kind of meh for me. [name]Ezra[/name] is nice but the rest are kinda boring [name]IMO[/name].
