I’m due next week with our second child, a baby girl. While my husband and I knew our first child’s name since before he was conceived ([name_m]Desmond[/name_m] nn [name_m]Des[/name_m] and [name_u]Desi[/name_u], middle name my rare maiden name), we have struggled immensely with our girl’s name. He seemed to like 80’s girls names while he told me my choices were all “old lady.” A nickname we both like is essential, and while avoiding the top 100 was preferential, it wasn’t essential.
We finally decided on: [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] “[name_f]Rosie[/name_f]” [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]. I love [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] as a nn, I feel the name hits the sweet spot of “I’ve heard of it but it’s not totally strange,” my mil, stepmother-in-law and I all have [name_m]French[/name_m]-inflected names, [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is my paternal grandma’s middle name, [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is the long form of my mom’s middle name (just “[name_u]Jo[/name_u]”), and the “J” for [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] also honors my husband’s paternal grandma [name_f]Jeanne[/name_f]. I feel we’ve made a solid choice.
Of course now that we’ve decided and her birth is so imminent, I find myself with some nagging doubts (naming cold feet…is that a thing?). Does it go well with [name_m]Desmond[/name_m]? Is it a name she’ll grow up to love? My husband likes it, but he still thinks it’s a bit “old-lady” (I’ve already told him “old-lady” names are totally awesome and in style).
“Old lady” is a misnomer for these rediscovered treasures of names. Really, I know of many more [name_f]Edna[/name_f]'s, [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]'s, [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]'s, and [name_f]Maude[/name_f]'s who are in Pampers, not Depends.
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m] (love it) and [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] are a great sibset. Naming cold feet is a thing and it won’t go away until you see your daughter’s face and call her by her name and then it just clicks and you’ll never look back.
I think it’s an absolute perfect fit with [name_m]Desmond[/name_m]. And the nicknames are adorable together too! [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is beautuful. I think she will grow up to love [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] nn [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] gives her another gorgeous choice (with cute nn) if for some reason she doesn’t. I think you are having name cold feet! Listen to your gut feelings, but from an objective perspective it’s a beautiful name and great sibset.
Not to be redundant with all these other replies, but it sounds like you’ve made a perfect, and very thoughtful, choice the names go beautifully with each other.
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is darling! I love the nn [name_f]Rosie[/name_f], and [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] and [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] are too cute together! The only sibset I know of with a [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] in it is [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] and [name_f]Zoe[/name_f], and that clashes much more (to me) than [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] and [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]. They’re quite perfect together.
I absolutely love [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] and [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] together! [name_u]Desi[/name_u] and [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] are a wonderful sibset!!!

I do have to agree about [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] being rhymy. If it were my choice, I would probably go with either [name_f]Rosalia[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] or [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Josephina[/name_f].
The names are awesome, though. I think you have great taste in names and your children will be very happy with them.
