I am due with DD#2 this [name]Saturday[/name], and having some cold feet about our name choice. DD#1 is [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Jane[/name] (we love it!). We had a bunch of our other top choices selected by immediate family and friends, including [name]Cecilia[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name], and [name]Juliet[/name]. I should also mention my husband is impossible to please, and nixes practically everything. We agreed that we both love the name [name]Lorelei[/name] [name]Lydia[/name], but part of me worries that it doesn’t suit as [name]Penelope[/name]'s little sister. Any thoughts/reassurances or maybe a brilliant out of left field 11th hour suggestions?
As an FYI, before we agreed on [name]Lorelei[/name], my husband vetoed the following names I adored.
I think that [name]Lydia[/name] sounds slightly better with [name]Penelope[/name] than [name]Lorelei[/name] does. I think [name]Lydia[/name] [name]Mae[/name] or [name]Lydia[/name] [name]Claire[/name] or something along those lines would be beautiful wiu [name]Penelope[/name]. But go with whatever you and your husband like!
I love [name]Lorelei[/name] and I think she’s great with [name]Penelope[/name]. I would love to meet girls named [name]Penelope[/name] and [name]Lorelei[/name], together or individually!
I think it goes just fine with [name]Penelope[/name]. [name]Penelope[/name] and [name]Lorelei[/name] are actually two of my favorite names that DH has vetoed. I say go with your original instinct. When I had my dd, I agonized over whether we were giving her the “right” name. [name]Even[/name] after she was born, I second guessed it for months. I’m so very glad that my DH made me stick with it, as my little girl is most definitely an [name]Annabel[/name] [name]Hope[/name]. Nothing else could have possibly suited her better.
I love [name]Lorelai[/name] with [name]Penelope[/name]. [name]Lorelai[/name] [name]Lydia[/name] is a tiny bit of a tongue twister, but since your last name is short and simple I think it’s fine. And how often are they said out loud together? [name]Both[/name] [name]Lorelai[/name] and [name]Lydia[/name] are beautiful.
I think they go fine together, but [name]Lorelei[/name] [name]Lydia[/name] is a bit of a mouthful. But I also wanted to add that the first name I thought of as a sister for [name]Penelope[/name] was [name]Cordelia[/name].
Maybe [name]Cordelia[/name] [name]Violet[/name]? Or [name]Cordelia[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]?
Thanks for the feedback and words of encouragement. Its funny, I originally suggested [name]Lydia[/name] AND [name]Cordelia[/name] as first names, and my husband said no. I kept bringing up [name]Lydia[/name] as a middle name, and I think I’ve worn him down at this point. Its a little wordy with [name]Lorelei[/name], but he has already said no to [name]Grace[/name], [name]Claire[/name], [name]June[/name], [name]Mae[/name], [name]Rose[/name], [name]Brooke[/name], [name]Lane[/name], [name]Quinn[/name], [name]Alice[/name], [name]Elise[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] as mns (Thats just what I remember off the top of my head - I wasn’t kidding when I said he was picky!).
I think people get too caught up with sibset names. Your children will live together for around 20 years. Then they’ll be individuals (often with no one other than close friends even knowing their siblings’ names) for the next 60+. Choose a name because you love it on it’s own. Not because it complements a child you already have.
I think [name]Lorelei[/name] and [name]Penelope[/name] are absolutely [name]LOVELY[/name] together.
But I don’t like the combination [name]Lorelei[/name] [name]Lydia[/name]. [name]Both[/name] start with L and have 3 syllables so it’s a little too sing-songy for me.
Since your daughter will be born in [name]June[/name], push your husband to reconsider [name]Lorelei[/name] [name]June[/name], which is a beautiful combo. Or [name]Lorelei[/name] [name]Summer[/name]?
[name]Lorelei[/name] is gorgeous and works great with [name]Penelope[/name]. I’m not liking the alliteration, though, with [name]Lydia[/name]. Here are some other mn ideas just incase you’re open to some more suggestions:
