My husband and I are torn between 2 names. We both like them equally.
This is our second boy, our first is [name]Maxwell[/name] [name]Jude[/name].
What do you like better [name]Dugan[/name] or [name]Calvin[/name]?
My concern with [name]Dugan[/name] is that people would pronounce it [name]Doug[/name]-an. My concern with [name]Calvin[/name] is it being too popular.
Thanks for your help!
[name]Calvin[/name] by far! I adore [name]Calvin[/name]. It’s so classic, yet it still has a bit of quirk. I adore it.
[name]Maxwell[/name] and [name]Calvin[/name] work together really well. I think people will instinctively say DOO-gan (I did!), and while [name]Calvin[/name]'s mainstream, I wouldn’t say it’s popular. I only know one, and he’s in his thirties.
I know some people with the surname [name]Dugan[/name] and I don’t think they’ve had much trouble with people saying [name]Doug[/name]-an. [name]Calvin[/name] sounds nice, but I’m not a fan of the meaning. Out of the two I prefer [name]Dugan[/name].
I prefer [name]Calvin[/name] and like [name]Calvin[/name] and [name]Maxwell[/name] together. I think it’s the ‘v’ in one and the x in the other- unusual letters, rare for names which ties them together in my opinion.
I prefer [name]Dugan[/name] by far. It’s masculine yet distinct and it has that strong, last name charm. Also, I wouldn’t fret over the pronunciation, 90% will say “doo” and the other 10% can be quickly corrected. [name]Calvin[/name], on the other hand, while more of a “quirky” classic, just comes off sounding very dated.
Definitely [name]Calvin[/name]! [name]Dugan[/name] (I’m pronouncing it Doo-gan) doesn’t sound attractive to me.
If you are in the US, [name]Calvin[/name] is ranked #209 which sits in the sweet spot of ‘known but not overly used’ that [name]Maxwell[/name] hits as well. It is less popular than [name]Maxwell[/name], too.
Ditto! [name]Dugan[/name] doesn’t sound attractive at all, especially with the first syllable being [name]Du[/name]- (doo), like doggy doo-doo. I know kids will get teased for whatever reason their peers can think of but why make it easy for them?
I thought that [name]Dugan[/name] was [name]Doug[/name]-an, but finding out that it’s Doo-gan makes it even more of a no for me. I agree that it’s just not a nice sounding name. [name]Calvin[/name], on the other hand, is very handsome.
