[name]Duke[/name] [name]Augustus[/name] [name]Powell[/name]. Does it sound ok?
We love [name]Duke[/name], it cute and wearable. FIL is named [name]Gustave[/name], or [name]Gus[/name] for short, so [name]Augustus[/name] is a nod to [name]Gus[/name].
I am really in two minds about this name combo. I would love to hear thoughts.
It is very hard to get my husband over the line with any names, these two names are his suggestions, and they are growing on me.
I love [name]Augustus[/name] and I think [name]Duke[/name] works better as a middle name. [name]May[/name] I suggest [name]Augustus[/name] [name]Duke[/name] [name]Powell[/name] and he can go by [name]Duke[/name] if you choose?
I love it. [name]Duke[/name] has always been one of my favorite boy names. Unfortunately, we live in NC and close to [name]Duke[/name] University, so my husband ruled that out as an option pretty quickly for us.
I think the two names sound great together. Good choice!
I thought I wouldn’t like it because I generally don’t care for either of those names on their own (no negative reason, just a personal preference). But I have to say, I think they sound pretty cool together! The flow works very well. It’s quite a southern and spunky combo, and I love the way you’re honoring [name]Gus[/name]. =]
I’m not a fan of the name. It makes me think of two things, neither of which I would want to saddle my child with. 1) to me “[name]Duke[/name]” is more of a dog’s name. Kind of like [name]Marmaduke[/name]. 2) [name]Duke[/name] is also a title, and especially with the middle name “[name]Augustus[/name]” it makes me think of World War I Prussian royalty.
Personally I dislike titles and the name [name]Duke[/name], but I know it has more history of use than ‘[name]Queen[/name]’ or ‘Viscount’ or whatever, and I like that you’ve grounded it with a more traditional middle name. My issue with it is, like PPs, it sounds like you’re describing a duke because of the MN [name]Augustus[/name], which was often used by nobility/royalty. Specifically (me being a royalty nut) it makes me think of the old [name]Duke[/name] of Sussex
[name]How[/name] about honouring using [name]Angus[/name]? I think [name]August[/name] [name]Duke[/name] or [name]Angus[/name] [name]Duke[/name] would work much better
…I dunno…personally, I wouldn’t. Using [name]Duke[/name] as a first name is almost like naming your child [name]Prince[/name] or [name]Count[/name]. I guess I’ve heard [name]Earl[/name], [name]Baron[/name], and maybe [name]Marquis[/name] used as given names before and didn’t think too much of it. But, still…if you think it would be weird to name your daughter Duchess, you should probably skip [name]Duke[/name] because it’s essentially the same thing. If you like the name that much, maybe use it for a pet? It makes me think of the dog from the [name]Bush[/name]'s baked beans commercials anyway.
I don’t mind [name]Duke[/name] as a nickname and actually used to have a friend named [name]Duke[/name], after Dukes of [name]Hazzard[/name], but it was a random nickname he received from friends and I actually couldn’t even tell you his real name anymore!
I’m sorry but I don’t like it at all. [name]Duke[/name] is a title, and it has the same appeal as a daughter called [name]Princess[/name]. Plus, it is often used for pets. It was the name of the dog on the [name]Bush[/name]'s Baked Beans commercials (which I’m sure none of your kid’s friends will ever know about, but still). I think it works okay as a nickname, but definitely not as a given name.
