I have recently stumbled across the name [name_m]Duke[/name_m] on here and I really like it! Not because I think my child is royalty or anything. It just seems strong and southern to me. What do y’all think?
I had a student once that was called [name_m]Duke[/name_m]. It was his name, too, and not a nickname. It didn’t strike me as odd at all. He was a pretty laid back, regular dude.
Thank you
It does seem very southern to me.
I like it! Handsome and very southern sounding.
Thank you all
Thank you for the feedback. I like it for the cowboyish tone it sets in my opinion. I’m a huge [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Wayne[/name_m] fan which adds an extra point. I think it sounds really laid back and not so pretentious. lol we really aren’t that kind of people though. To me it sounds different because I know me I guess. We are very down home, laid back people.
Does or does not?
I really like the sound of the name [name_m]Duke[/name_m] and I think in [name_u]America[/name_u] it would be fine because Dukes aren’t a thing there, so it sounds southern, and I agree with you it has a cowboyish sound. However in the UK [name_m]Duke[/name_m] would come across as extremely tacky.
I like it! Also like the combo [name_m]Duke[/name_m] [name_m]Apollo[/name_m]/[name_m]Apollo[/name_m] [name_m]Duke[/name_m].
Thank you all for the feedback! I had posted this on another site and received a lot of negative and hateful feedback. I’m with you that it would sound tacky elsewhere. Maybe that is why the feedback was so different. Someone noted it is actually illegal to name your child [name_m]Duke[/name_m] in [name_m]New[/name_m] Zealand. I think it fits our family personality and area pretty well. I’m SOLD
Dog name in my opinion
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Duke[/name_m]. Quirky, cute
I know two guys named [name_m]Duke[/name_m]. Maybe it’s because I’m American, but [name_m]Duke[/name_m] doesn’t even register as a title when I hear it as a name. I agree about it being very Southern and cowboyish.
I love [name_m]Duke[/name_m] and it’s on my list. I’m in [name_u]California[/name_u] and maybe that’s why I get a lot of flack over the name, it seems like people do associate it as a Southern, country, retro (Dukes of [name_m]Hazard[/name_m]), “hillbilly” name…I don’t know. For me, I think it’s short, easy to pronounce, warm, familiar, masculine and I envision a capable and charming guy. Needless to say, it remains on my list.
I have an Uncle [name_m]Duke[/name_m]. His full name is [name_m]Dwayne[/name_m] though. Definitely agree that it sounds southern, even though my uncle isn’t, maybe because it makes me think of [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] Dukes.
Thanks for all the feedback!!! Now to sell it to DH
I like it! I think it could be a nn for [name_m]Duncan[/name_m].
