Eadlin & Neeley

  1. Thoughts/opinions on these two names?
  2. How would you spell them?
    Eadlin vs Eadlyn
    Neeley vs Neely
  3. What imagery/colors/adjectives come to mind for these names?

Edited to add: I’m not asking about them as a pairing or sibset. Just two names on my list.

TIA!

I love [name_f]Eadlyn[/name_f] and I think Neeley is sweet. They give me different vibes so I don’t think I’d pair them together. I’ve spelt them here my preferred way, but it’s not a strong preference for either. Neeley reminds me of A Tree Grows in [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u], but it also feels [name_u]Southern[/name_u] to me. [name_f]Eadlyn[/name_f] is offbeat, vintage, [name_f]British[/name_f]. Like a Cath Kidston print.

I’m not planning to pair them. [name_m]Just[/name_m] two names I’m mulling over at the moment. Haha I haven’t heard of either of the things you’ve referenced, but now I’m curious so I’ll have to look them up.

Ahh, [name_f]Eadlin[/name_f] and Neeley!!! I adore these two!

[name_f]Eadlin[/name_f] is whimsical, mystical and distinctive - an unexpected way to get to Edie/Eadie and a kind of fresh but ancient feel!! I think I prefer the sleek look of [name_f]Eadlin[/name_f]! I get imagery of green leaves, velvet, medieval re-enactments, The [name_f]Faerie[/name_f] [name_f]Queen[/name_f] by [name_u]Spenser[/name_u], grey, mild days.

Neeley is bright, zippy and charming - a little tomboyish, but perfectly girly too! It has a friendly, fun, and appealing sound to me! Neeley is my preferred spelling (though I slightly prefer [name_f]Neelie[/name_f] even more). Neeley gives me imagery of small, cosy cottages, flowers in the garden, dirt under the nails, muddy boots worn with a dress.

@Greyblue I just love your responses! They’re always so thoughtful and enthusiastic. I love the imagery you gave for each name. I haven’t seen the [name_f]Neelie[/name_f] spelling, but I do like that. Have been leaning toward [name_f]Eadlin[/name_f] too. You’re actually the one who turned me on to [name_f]Eadlin[/name_f] in the first place, so thank you.

I have a hard time pronouncing [name_f]Eadlin[/name_f], and annunciating the letter d in the name, so it doesn’t really roll off the tongue for me. I’m not a big fan of Neeley, it reminds me of the word needy, or sounds like kneeling. I would spell them [name_f]Eadlyn[/name_f] and [name_u]Neely[/name_u].

I can see that, though I’ve personally never thought of kneeling or needy in association with Neeley. I actually knew someone with the name and even the first time I heard it, those never crossed my mind, so I’m not too worried about that in particular. I can also see how it could be a little hard to enunciate all the letters in [name_f]Eadlin[/name_f]. It does sometimes sound like [name_f]Elin[/name_f] instead.
