Easter egg hunt

[name_m]Hi[/name_m], we’re going to my parents in [name_f]England[/name_f] for [name_f]Easter[/name_f] this year, which means that hopefully the weather should be nice enough to do an egg hunt in the garden (would never happen in Iceland).

But do you think it’s a little early? It’s one of my favourite traditions from my own childhood so I’ve been looking forward to doing it with Freyja. She’ll be about 22 months then so closer to 2 than 1. She was a late walker but is pretty confident with it now and loves putting things in baskets (and taking them out again). But she’s not really good at looking for things at all, she has to see them right in front of her. I guess also she might not really understand the task at hand.

When did you start doing egg hunts with your kids? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it will work with mine if we don’t really hide the eggs, just sort of arrange them around the garden, and give her lots of help? Or will it just be a waste of time :)?

Definitely not to early to participate, but I could see her not being as interested in it as a child a bit older than her. Maybe if she gets to see other kids (cousins, maybe?) hunting for them and if some are left in plain sight, she will catch on

Obviously, I do not have children yet, so can’t really answer your first question… However, in my church’s [name_f]Easter[/name_f] events, we put on something that all of the children can participate in. We literally cover an entire small field with [name_f]Easter[/name_f] eggs and let the kids go for it, in sections quartered off by ages, which allows even the smallest kids to have fun. [name_m]Even[/name_m] the ones Freyja’s age seem to enjoy it! Something about the bright colors and general excitement, I guess  Whatever you decide, I don’t think it would be a waste of time at all. You’ll be getting to spend time with family and continuing on one of your own favorite traditions with your own little one. I would suggest just to be open-minded about the event and enjoy it no matter what.

Definitely not too young. My daughter did her first egg hunt at 15 months and my son at a year. They both really enjoyed it. For kids that age, you don’t need to hide the eggs, just lay a dozen or so out in the yard. As you mentioned, kids that age love putting things in baskets so once you point out the first egg (or help them put the first one in the basket), they pretty much get the idea from there.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] it, it will be an amazing memory!
