This name has been on my mind all week (for obvious reasons), and the more I think about it, the more I like it. Not for me, because we are too religious to pull it off, but I am actually very surprised this name hasn’t taken off among the non-religious out there. It has that directional aspect which is becoming popular ([name]North[/name], [name]West[/name]/[name]Weston[/name]) and it has the er/or ending sound which has seen a slight resurgence (at least among names I’ve seen) in recent years. The key is to be able to look at it from a completely secular point of view, which some people probably won’t be able to do. It took me a while before it even hit me that it could possibly be a name, but then it seemed so obvious that I was shocked I hadn’t seen it before. Maybe people are worried about offending? I’m fairly religious ([name]Christian[/name]) and I don’t think I’d be offended if I met a little [name]Easter[/name], but again, maybe that’s because I’ve spent all this time thinking about it. What do you all think?
P.S. I just saw this on the blog (talk about stealing my thunder!), but as a girl’s name!! Interesting. That didn’t even occur to me – seems all boy to me. Thoughts?
It’s definitely a girl’s name, for me. There’s a [name]Sheryl[/name] [name]Crow[/name] song with this name in it: “[name]Every[/name] [name]Day[/name] is a Winding Road”
I used to ride,
With a vending machine repair man.
He says he’s been down this road more than twice.
He was high on intellectualism.
I’ve never been there but the brochure looks nice.
CHORUS…
He’s got a daughter he calls [name]Easter[/name],
She was born on a [name]Tuesday[/name] night.
I’m just wondering, why I feel so alone.
Why I’m a stranger, in my own life.
I think the problem is that it is religious and people who aren’t religious don’t usually want to associate themselves with religious things. [name]Hence[/name] they probably wouldn’t use Advent, Lent, [name]Easter[/name], [name]Christmas[/name], Hanukkah, etc… as names. It kind of appears “hypocritical” (not sure if that’s the word I want) like why would they use something they don’t believe in or celebrate? Plus I can see some people being offended by someone non religious using something religious.
Being [name]Christian[/name] myself, I just think it’s a bad idea. I see teasing possibilities and I would find it very hard to take an [name]Easter[/name] (or any other holiday name) seriously…
