Edgy/Industrial/Futuristic/Sci-Fi Names!

Hello!!
What can you think of as far as names like that go? Think of a gritty, trash-filled Dystopian world. Where there’s hardly anything to survive on, the [name_f]Earth[/name_f] is in ruins, so everyone is fighting, killing, stealing, and just being nasty. One name I love, especially on a girl, is [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]! Everyone seems against using it on a girl, but it’s a gem, and I feel it has a bit of an edgy feel.
Also, if you could suggest names that the (there will be factions) ‘privileged’ people will have? (they’ll have a big, clean settlement somewhere, and they’ll have slaves and be the ones mainly draining away the world’s resources, but it’s a very exclusive faction to be allowed in to) Stuff that’s really sleek and modern and clean, (both first and last names for these ones, if you could! the other people of other factions won’t have use for them, but the ‘privileged’ will) if that makes sense? I doubt anything I’ve written made sense. Hopefully someone can decipher this all! Thank you so much!

I think maybe more modern sounding names for the unprivledged and maybe classic or old names for the privledged.

For boys in the unprivileged places I think of names like:

[name_u]Max[/name_u]
[name_u]Dean[/name_u]
[name_m]Bruce[/name_m]
[name_m]Brutus[/name_m]
[name_u]Luca[/name_u]
[name_u]Wren[/name_u]
[name_m]Oz[/name_m]
[name_m]Sid[/name_m]
[name_m]Thorne[/name_m]

I can imagine girls having boy names wouldn’t be uncommon for the unprivledged, but maybe a bit of a mix:

[name_u]Riley[/name_u]
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m] (I think works well)
[name_m]Asher[/name_m]
[name_f]Liv[/name_f]
[name_f]Arwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Tara[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f]
[name_u]Monroe[/name_u]

For the privledged boys;

[name_m]William[/name_m]
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m]
[name_m]Alistair[/name_m]
[name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m]
[name_m]Cornelius[/name_m]
[name_m]Ignatius[/name_m]
[name_m]Nigel[/name_m]
[name_m]Woodrow[/name_m]
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m]
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]

and Privledged Girls;

[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f]
[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]
[name_f]Magdalene[/name_f]
[name_f]Antoinette[/name_f]
[name_f]Arabella[/name_f]
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Seraphina[/name_f]

I love the word industrial/industrious.

I think an interesting name to use somewhere would be [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] which means “industrious; hard-working” in [name_m]German[/name_m]. If that is a trait that is highly valued in the dystopian world, then it could be a “common” name that people often bestow on their kids in order to have them align with a useful and valued trait. Modern-sounding variations of the name could be: [name_f]Amma[/name_f], [name_u]Mel[/name_u], [name_f]Mela[/name_f]

As you might guess, I love to consider meanings of names especially in fictional settings. It provides another fascinating layer to the whole story. And it also can be another layer of psychology for the characters.

Think, for example, the subtle rebellion of almost all the slaves naming their children names that mean “freedom” or “fire” or “victorious”- something subversive that betrays their state of mind and what they might be possibly hoping for.

Or on the flip side, you can demonstrate just how slavish and mindless the people have really become by naming them names which have meanings that allude to “work” and “obedience” or being small.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] something interesting to ponder.

For the unprivileged portion of society, people might name their children after an ideal, or something that they value. Like the previous poster said, using a name with a meaning that matters to them. You could take it a step further and have them use word names related to what they wish for their child. Names like [name_u]Freedom[/name_u], [name_u]Justice[/name_u], [name_f]Mercy[/name_f], and [name_f]Patience[/name_f] might make a resurgence. There would also probably be a shift of names that are more on the “boy” end of the spectrum to a more unisex position, but the same would probably happen for feminine names on male children. You could use names like [name_f]Marlo[/name_f], [name_m]Griffin[/name_m], or [name_u]Jude[/name_u] on girls, and names that have sort of been claimed in our era by girls on the boys. Examples of this might be [name_u]Avery[/name_u], [name_u]Bailey[/name_u], or [name_u]Kelsey[/name_u].

For the privileged class, you might want to look into names that are historically quite grand. Names from mythology, the names of gods, goddesses, heroes. Names like [name_f]Kassandra[/name_f], Ishtar, or [name_m]Osiris[/name_m]. The names of royalty might also be a good inspiration. [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f], [name_f]Antoinette[/name_f], [name_f]Tatiana[/name_f], [name_m]Octavian[/name_m], [name_m]Julius[/name_m].

Think of a gritty, trash-filled Dystopian world. Where there’s hardly anything to survive on, the Earth is in ruins, so everyone is fighting, killing, stealing, and just being nasty. One name I love, especially on a girl, is Jasper!

I love [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] for a girl in this Dystopian world! Other ideas…

[name_f]Violet[/name_f] - I love this because my hubby’s grandma was [name_f]Viola[/name_f] or [name_f]Vi[/name_f] for short - her husband called her Six though, due to [name_f]VI[/name_f] and the roman numeral being Six. So you could have a [name_f]Violet[/name_f], called Six!
[name_u]Seven[/name_u] or any other number as a name would be pretty cool if you don’t like the name [name_f]Violet[/name_f].
[name_m]Arrow[/name_m] - could be short for [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] or used on it’s own.
[name_u]Flynn[/name_u], [name_m]Florin[/name_m], [name_m]Foster[/name_m], [name_m]Forest[/name_m], [name_m]Franco[/name_m]
- any of these names seem fitting, I like [name_m]Franco[/name_m]!
[name_m]Gregory[/name_m] - I like using somewhat normal names and having really cool and offbeat nicknames, I would use [name_u]Rory[/name_u] or [name_u]Grey[/name_u] for [name_m]Gregory[/name_m]! Or you could just use [name_u]Rory[/name_u] or [name_u]Grey[/name_u].
Harkin, [name_u]Harper[/name_u], or [name_m]Holden[/name_m] - these feel like they would totally fit in, especially Harkin!
[name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] - so many nickname options for this, my favorite being Isby!
[name_m]Ronan[/name_m]
[name_m]Bruno[/name_m]
[name_u]Joss[/name_u]
- boy or girl!
[name_f]Alyx[/name_f]

Also, if you could suggest names that the (there will be factions) ‘privileged’ people will have? (they’ll have a big, clean settlement somewhere, and they’ll have slaves and be the ones mainly draining away the world’s resources, but it’s a very exclusive faction to be allowed in to) Stuff that’s really sleek and modern and clean, (both first and last names for these ones, if you could!

This category makes me think of peace, calm, purity, order, routine, and class…

[name_m]Thomas[/name_m]
[name_u]Luca[/name_u]
