I really love the name [name_f]Edie[/name_f], however I fear it’s too short or too “cutesy”. Also I’m not a fan of [name_f]Edith[/name_f], albeit a nice name it’s just not my style.
I thought [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Edie[/name_f] would make a charming pair of sisters and was wondering if you guys had any opinions on [name_f]Edie[/name_f]
Also any middle names would be greatly appreciated, you can probably tell that I adore old fashioned names and a love for 2 middle names
[name_f]Edie[/name_f] isn’t my favorite nickname name, but I’m all for using it as a full name! Growing up I knew an [name_f]Edie[/name_f]—just [name_f]Edie[/name_f]—and it suited her. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Edie[/name_f] do make a cute pair. (For the record, I also like it as a nickname for [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] or [name_f]Delia[/name_f], in addition to the suggestions above.)
I adore [name_f]Edie[/name_f]! I think it’s so precious. I always thought it would be an awesome nickname for Edelweiss, but that’s a guilty pleasure name.
I like it as a full name. [name_f]Evie[/name_f] is very popular where I live, and I’ve seen it work on someone older, so I don’t think [name_f]Edie[/name_f] would be a problem. It has a vintage charm to it that I think gives it more substance.
I love [name_f]Edie[/name_f]! It’s cute, spunky, pretty timeless and it can definitely stand on its own (it’s a bit of a stretch since the E is different but it could also be a nickname for [name_f]Edwina[/name_f])
I’m just going to use some of the old fashioned names I personally like to make combos!
[name_f]Edie[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] [name_f]Estelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Edie[/name_f] [name_f]Estella[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f]
[name_f]Edie[/name_f] [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u]
[name_f]Edie[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] [name_f]Hope[/name_f]
[name_f]Edie[/name_f] [name_f]Opal[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Edie[/name_f] [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] [name_f]Faith[/name_f]
[name_f]Edie[/name_f] [name_f]Hope[/name_f] [name_f]Eulalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Edie[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]
[name_f]Edie[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]
[name_f]Edie[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Hermione[/name_f]
[name_f]Edie[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] [name_f]Theodora[/name_f]
[name_f]Edie[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] [name_f]Miriam[/name_f]
[name_f]Edie[/name_f] [name_f]Muriel[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u]
I prefer it as a nickname. Straight from my own list there’s Edelweiss - would that be too out there for you? Or maybe [name_u]Eden[/name_u]. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_u]Eden[/name_u] sound so great together.
[name_f]Edie[/name_f] is a lovely name, delicate but strong, with a wonderful vintage feel. It’s not too short or cutesy at all- lots of girls are being named “just” [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] and [name_f]Molly[/name_f], which many would say sound more cutesy and fluffy and little-girlish than [name_f]Edie[/name_f].
You’d be in good company- [name_f]Keira[/name_f] Knightley named her daughter [name_f]Edie[/name_f], not short for anything.
If you want a longer full name though, what about [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] or [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] nn [name_f]Edie[/name_f]? Or [name_f]Theodora[/name_f], which is quite a stretch but still somewhat makes sense, [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] > [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] > [name_f]Edie[/name_f], and has an E and a D?
I really love @ceryle’s suggestions- [name_f]Edie[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] and [name_f]Edie[/name_f] [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] sound so sophisticated and old-timey in the most gorgeous way, like an Edwardian socialite who could’ve been friends with [name_f]Queen[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] or [name_f]Virginia[/name_f] [name_m]Woolf[/name_m]. [name_f]Edie[/name_f] [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f] sounds more international, a mysterious wanderlust-filled traveller sort of woman, but also has that British aristocratic feel to it.
Pairing [name_f]Edie[/name_f] with classic middles that feel vintage and/or timeless works really well to me. I’ve tried making some combos:
I’m not fond of [name_f]Edie[/name_f] as a full name. But there have been a lot of wonderful suggestions as to how to get there as a nn. i’ll throw in getting to [name_f]Edie[/name_f] via the initials of her first and middle names: [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] [name_f]Diane[/name_f], [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] [name_f]Delia[/name_f]. First names alone that could get you to [name_f]Edie[/name_f] are [name_f]Edra[/name_f] and [name_f]Eudora[/name_f]. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Eudora[/name_f] together would make quite the stunning vintage sibset.
I like [name_f]Edie[/name_f] a lot and don’t think it needs a longer full name, especially if the full name isn’t going to get used. I’m not a huge fan of [name_f]Edith[/name_f] either for some reason. [name_f]Edie[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] is great.
