EDITH! And her sisters?

I love that [name_f]Cate[/name_f] Blanchett named her newly adopted daughter [name_f]Edith[/name_f] [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] [name_f]Patricia[/name_f]. Patrician names I would expect from a patrician actor.

It got me wondering about [name_f]Edith[/name_f] and her sort of “sister” names.

If you’d like, please supply an image or association with the names below.

  1. [name_f]Edith[/name_f]

  2. [name_f]Edna[/name_f]

  3. [name_f]Edwina[/name_f]

  4. [name_f]Elaine[/name_f]

  5. [name_f]Ethel[/name_f]

  6. [name_f]Eunice[/name_f]

  7. [name_f]Enid[/name_f]

  8. [name_f]Eluned[/name_f]

  9. [name_f]Evadne[/name_f]

  10. [name_f]Ellen[/name_f]

One of my surprising new favorite names. It flew in under the radar. I always thought it was a boring name, a non-name, but it is calm and crisp and efficient while pretty as well. I picture twin girls, [name_f]Ellen[/name_f] and [name_f]Anne[/name_f], classics.

No one has opinions on these e names?

I was excited to hear about a real life [name_f]Edith[/name_f] too!
I’m not sure I see these other names in the same light though - I think [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] goes best with [name_f]Edith[/name_f] from you list.

When I think of sisters for [name_f]Edith[/name_f]:
[name_f]Agatha[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Blythe[/name_f]
[name_f]Faye[/name_f]
[name_f]Ruth[/name_f]
[name_f]Millicent[/name_f]

However, I don’t really see [name_f]Edith[/name_f] as ‘clunky’ as some others do, I could just as easily see [name_f]Edith[/name_f] with [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] or [name_f]Esther[/name_f].

Oops! I didn’t mean to be literal. I meant names that remind me of [name_f]Edith[/name_f], or seem to fit in that category. The “WOW, I can’t believe this name could be coming back yet I kinda like it” category.

Oh, haha!
I guess with [name_u]Eden[/name_u] gaining popularity, [name_f]Edith[/name_f] is going to seem more accessible. I’ve met/heard of a surprising amount of [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]'s lately also, which could help [name_f]Edith[/name_f] seem more modern.
