I have been reading the posts on this site for awhile, and I love how thoughtful all the responses are!
Wondering if you could share your opinions of the name [name_f]Edith[/name_f]?
I am in love with this name. My husband thinks it’s too old. I told him all the people who were named [name_f]Edith[/name_f] were young once.
We like the name [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] for a MN but are still trying to narrow that down as well.
Other names we enjoy are [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_f]Elaina[/name_f], [name_f]Emilie[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_f]Ruth[/name_f], and [name_f]Susannah[/name_f].
I’ve been slowly warming to the name [name_f]Edith[/name_f]. I think Downton [name_u]Abbey[/name_u] has actually had a lot of influence in making “old” names like [name_f]Edith[/name_f] feel fresh again—think [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Sybil[/name_f], [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]… So I don’t think a name like [name_f]Edith[/name_f] will feel old; some of her classmates are likely to have names that have similarly been dusted off from past eras!
Plus, [name_f]Edith[/name_f] comes with the cutesy nickname [name_f]Edie[/name_f] if your husband still feels that [name_f]Edith[/name_f] is too mature for a little girl.
For middle names, I like [name_f]Edith[/name_f] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], [name_f]Edith[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] or [name_f]Edith[/name_f] [name_f]Emilie[/name_f] from your list.
I personally hate the name [name_f]Edith[/name_f] but I think the combo [name_f]Edith[/name_f] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] is pretty. I love what you told your husband though! If you like the name go for it because it’s all just a matter of opinion
I prefer [name_f]Edie[/name_f] over [name_f]Edith[/name_f], but going with [name_f]Edith[/name_f] gives a more professional-sound to the name for when she is older. Definitely not out-dated or old-fashioned!
I think [name_f]Edith[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] has the best ‘flow’, and if you decided to go with [name_f]Edie[/name_f], I’d suggest [name_f]Edie[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f].
The other mn options are beautiful, but 2 E’s is harder to say, and I prefer [name_f]Nora[/name_f] as a fn.
Sorry I’m all over the place! You have a lot of great options here is all.
I love [name_f]Edith[/name_f], I think she will become a lot more common place in the next couple of years, especially with popular nn [name_f]Edie[/name_f].
However, I’m not a fan of [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] at all. I like [name_f]Edith[/name_f] [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] or [name_f]Edith[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] from your list.
[name_f]Edith[/name_f] is a gorgeous name with lots of beautiful history and a class factor! It’s definitely starting to feel fresher as a name as well, thanks to period drams like Downton. I really think you should go for it, [name_f]Edith[/name_f] doesn’t sound at all fusty to me, and [name_f]Edie[/name_f] is the most darling nickname.
[name_f]Edith[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] is my favourite combo out of the ones you’ve listed, though I like [name_f]Edith[/name_f] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] and [name_f]Edith[/name_f] [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] as well I think a one or three syllable middle name sounds nicer with [name_f]Edith[/name_f] than another two syllable name, it just flows better for me
[name_f]Edith[/name_f] isn’t my style. I think if you’re still looking for that vintage feel, [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] would be a great pick! I think [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] would be very pretty
I quite like [name_f]Edith[/name_f]. It reminds me of [name_u]Eden[/name_u], [name_f]Eva[/name_f], [name_f]Ava[/name_f], and [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]. I don’t think it’s old lady-ish at all.
I like it . I think one of the little girls in Despicable Me has the name [name_f]Edith[/name_f] and [name_f]Cate[/name_f] [name_f]Blanchette[/name_f] named her daughter [name_f]Edith[/name_f] so I think people may think about this one again.
Strongly dislike [name_f]Edith[/name_f]. It’s one of those names like [name_f]Gertrude[/name_f] or [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] that I just find awful sounding.
That being said, it’s been in the top 1000 since 1900 (and before) so I don’t think it’s too “out there.” People will either hate it or love it.
I like [name_f]Elaina[/name_f] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] the best from your list!
I give [name_f]Edith[/name_f] a big, fat, nay. I think it’s unattractive. I love [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], and think [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_f]Edith[/name_f] flows much better.
This is my grandma’s name, but she spells it [name_f]Edythe[/name_f]. I guess adding in Ys was common back then too - she’s 90 now. I do believe it is vintage enough for a revival. [name_f]Edie[/name_f] is a lovely nickname.
Not a fan of [name_f]Edith[/name_f] - definitely sounds like an old lady name to me. [name_f]Edie[/name_f], however, is very cute. Maybe you could convince him by selling the nickname? [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_f]Edith[/name_f] would also be nice.
