I have always loved the name [name]Edith[/name], nn [name]Edie[/name]. My great grandmothers name was [name]Edna[/name] so it has the [name]Ed[/name]- beginning even if its said in a different way.
My biggest concern is that with our last name, it might sound strange… [name]Edith[/name] [name]Moore[/name]. “Eat-ith More”…somebody who is eating a lot, perhaps in a [name]Shakespeare[/name] play. Obviously any phrase names sound silly imho, my husband likes the name but isnt concerned about it with our last name. I am afraid to ask irl friends since people are always getting their undies in a bunch to know what names we like and I tend to be very private with them since I like more out of the ordinary names then people local to me.
I don’t hear it personally, I think the ‘d’ is strong enough sounding to not make the ‘eat-ith’ an issue. If it were to ever be an issue, it would be one of those things that would get old in 5 minutes and I don’t see it being a massive problem at all.
I’ve never thought of [name]Edith[/name] in those terms, and think it would be fine with your last name.
[name]Just[/name] don’t go suggesting this with your friends and family as once you plant the seed there they might not be able to get it out of their heads I think you’ll find that very few people would ever make the connestion witout being told to think about it.
I also didn’t hear it the first time I read it. In fact, I had to read your post a few times before it even clicked. Not an issue at all, [name]IMO[/name].
BTW, I love [name]Edith[/name], NN [name]Edie[/name]. Good choice! But I recommend not telling anyone, because it’s one of those names that may encounter some resistance.
I didn’t hear it the first time I read it, infact like lyricmom I had to read it a few times before I figured out what you meant. It’s not a problem in my opinion at all. I love [name]Edith[/name] with the nickname [name]Edie[/name] as I do [name]Eden[/name]. It’s a beautiful names.
Yeah, I really don’t hear it. Shakespearean verbal marking is not readily accessible to most people : D. There’s also the lovely (to me) [name]Edina[/name] as another option. [name]Eden[/name] [name]Moore[/name] is a lot more like Eatin’ More (but even that is not too blatant, to me) than [name]Edith[/name] [name]Moore[/name] is like Eateth More.
I love [name]Edith[/name], and I deffinetly don’t hear “Eat it more!” I think [name]Edith[/name] would work well to honor your grandmother. And it works well with your sibset. [name]Love[/name] it!
I can see Eat-ith-More", but I doubt most people will think of it without being prompted.
I go back and forth with [name]Edith[/name]…I really like [name]Edie[/name], and I think [name]Edith[/name] is an under-appreciated and old fashioned choice that would fit right in today without blending in. Maybe I like it because it’s in one of my favourites - [name]Meredith[/name].
I’m not personally a fan of it, but it does have a very classy and vintage feel to it. I’m not sure how well a girl would fit in in the 2010s being named [name]Edith[/name], so I’d suggest it as a middle name. But if you like it, there’s nothing wrong with it.
