Edmund and Teddy

DH is stuck on [name]Teddy[/name] for a boy, and although I love both [name]Theodore[/name] and [name]Edward[/name], neither feel like the “one”.

Is [name]Edmund[/name] nn [name]Teddy[/name] too far-fetched? [name]Edmund[/name] makes a good compromise for us since I’ve been pulling for [name]Desmond[/name] but DH isn’t as fond.

Thanks!

I really like the name [name]Edmund[/name]! It’s less common than [name]Edward[/name], which also has all the Twilight associations now. While my first instinct for a nn would be [name]Ed[/name] or [name]Eddie[/name] (I like [name]Ed[/name] better), I think [name]Teddy[/name] for [name]Edmund[/name] is doable. The “ed” sound is there, which is what gives it the connection to [name]Edmund[/name]. Plus, I know lots of people whose kids have nicknames that aren’t the obvious ones for the name, and I think it’s really cute. [name]Just[/name] make sure you don’t mind people assuming his name is [name]Theodore[/name] at first.

Eudo is a classic [name]Norman[/name] name due for a comeback (IMHO). I tend to like more serious names than ‘[name]Teddy[/name]’. Of your choices, I prefer [name]Edmund[/name] over [name]Theodore[/name], but [name]Theo[/name] over [name]Eddie[/name] or [name]Teddy[/name].

I don’t think [name]Teddy[/name] as a nickname for [name]Edmund[/name] makes any less sense than using [name]Teddy[/name] for [name]Edward[/name]. I love the name [name]Edmund[/name]; it’s less common than [name]Edward[/name] but still recognizable, plus it has the [name]Narnia[/name] connection.

Why don’t you do a Super Search to see names that contain “ted”? That may give you some other options to consider.

My thoughts exactly. I’ve loved [name]Edmund[/name] ever since reading the [name]Narnia[/name] books

[name]Ned[/name] and [name]Ted[/name] are both as plausible from [name]Edmund[/name] or [name]Edwin[/name] as from [name]Edward[/name], [name]IMO[/name]. And I like [name]Edmund[/name] best of those.

[name]Edmund[/name] is one of my SERIOUS boy names, and I think that [name]Teddy[/name] works for it just as well as it would for [name]Edward[/name]. (And I personally know a twenty-something named [name]Edward[/name] called [name]Teddy[/name], and the girls go crazy for it!)
