Edmund, Barnaby, and Frederic?

Thoughts on my current name crushes?

[name]Edmund[/name]
[name]Frederic[/name] (nn [name]Freddie[/name] or [name]Fritz[/name])
[name]Barnaby[/name] / [name]Barnabas[/name]

[name]How[/name] do they match up with names like [name]Elliot[/name], [name]August[/name], [name]Jasper[/name], and [name]Jonah[/name]? Any possible nickname options for [name]Edmund[/name] or [name]Barnaby[/name] other than the obvious [name]Eddie[/name] and [name]Barney[/name]?

[name]Edmund[/name]- I love this. It makes me think of [name]Jane[/name] [name]Austen[/name]- classy, romantic, and handsome. I love it!
[name]Frederic[/name] (nn [name]Freddie[/name] or [name]Fritz[/name])- I prefer it with the “k” at the end, but either way I love it. [name]Both[/name] nicknames are adorable.
[name]Barnaby[/name] / [name]Barnabas[/name]- I’m a little eh about [name]Barnabas[/name], but I like [name]Barnaby[/name]. They’re a bit too crusty for my taste. But I like them enough.

I think these names go well with the other names provided- except [name]Jonah[/name]. For some reason I don’t see it as that vintage. For some reason it’s very modern- even though it isn’t. It’s biblical.

As for nicknames, I think [name]Teddy[/name] could work for [name]Edmund[/name] (it works for [name]Edward[/name], doesn’t it?) or maybe [name]Ned[/name]. I can’t think of any alternative nicknamed for [name]Barnaby[/name]/[name]Barnabas[/name] besidse [name]Barney[/name].

I hope that helps!

My great granddad was an [name]Edmond[/name] (Irish spelling I think as he was Irish) and he went by [name]Ned[/name] It’s one of my favourite names.

I like [name]Frederic[/name] too but I’m not overly keen on [name]Barnaby[/name].

[name]Edmund[/name] is a really nice name that I hope will return.
[name]Frederic[/name] (or [name]Frederick[/name]) is also one of my favourite names, [name]Freddie[/name] is such an adorable nickname.
I’m not fond of [name]Barnaby[/name], mainly because I associate it to the TV series Midsummer Murders and DCI [name]Barnaby[/name].

[name]Edmund[/name] is a real favorite of mine. [name]Love[/name] the nn [name]Ned[/name]!
[name]Frederick[/name] is wonderful, too. It’s beautiful as a full name, and [name]Fred[/name] and [name]Freddie[/name] are both very appealing.
[name]Barnaby[/name] has such a happy sound to it, for me. Not sure the world is ready for it, which wouldn’t necessarily deter me… but I don’t care for the nn [name]Barney[/name]. Darn that big purple dinosaur!

[name]Edmund[/name] is sweet, I like boys names that have that softer feel to them (sadly DH disagrees)

[name]Frederic[/name] I love…[name]Frederick[/name] with the k tops my own list for a boy. I prefer [name]Freddie[/name] to [name]Fritz[/name], [name]Freddie[/name] I picture as charming and down to earth, [name]Fritz[/name] strikes me as the name of a quirky science professor for some reason.

[name]Barnaby[/name] I love too! It does remind me of the character in Hello [name]Dolly[/name] a bit though. I can see a little [name]Barnaby[/name] going by [name]Barnes[/name].

1 [name]Edmund[/name] - A strong and masculine Old English name. My favourite nn is [name]Ned[/name]. You could go with Mundi which means “world”.
2 [name]Barnaby[/name] - an underused spunky and cheerful vintage gem. Nickname [name]Arnie[/name] or [name]Barnes[/name].
3 [name]Frederic[/name] - I prefer [name]Frederick[/name] to this French spelling. I love [name]Freddie[/name]! I guess you can get [name]Red[/name], [name]Eddy[/name] or [name]Ricky[/name] too!

I think these names have the same style for a sibset…

[name]Barnaby[/name], [name]August[/name], [name]Jasper[/name] and [name]Jonah[/name]
[name]Elliot[/name], [name]Frederick[/name] and [name]Edmund[/name]

I love [name]Edmund[/name] and [name]Frederick[/name] (with this spelling), but I dislike the nicknames. The only one I wouldn’t mind is [name]Ed[/name], but I can’t say I like it.

I love [name]Edmund[/name]. I’d call him [name]Ted[/name] or [name]Ned[/name]. I wouldn’t use [name]Eddie[/name] ever, personally.

Thank you all!

Ooh, me too! I love both [name]Ted[/name] and [name]Ned[/name].

And I think [name]Barnaby[/name] is fantastic. (Not sure where to go with nn’s for it, though.)

[name]Edmund[/name] is my fav, it has a great meaning.

I like [name]Frederic[/name] and [name]Edmund[/name].
I strongly prefer [name]Barnabas[/name] over [name]Barnaby[/name] - which I just find extremely odd.

Oh, funny, I love [name]Barnaby[/name] because of that character and [name]John[/name] Nettles!!

[name]Edmund[/name] I associate with horribly gruesome [name]Edmund[/name] from [name]King[/name] Lear. [name]One[/name] of the evilest characters ever written, and not in a good way. [name]Frederick[/name] is very unappealing to me. So I’d go with [name]Barnaby[/name]… [name]Edmund[/name] has a nice sound though, and I don’t think most people think [name]King[/name] Lear when they hear it.

I love [name]Edmund[/name] and [name]Frederick[/name]! ([name]Don[/name]'t like the spelling [name]Frederic[/name] though)

[name]Adore[/name] [name]Edmund[/name] and [name]Fredrick[/name]. [name]Barnaby[/name] is okay.

Thoughts on my current name crushes?

[name]Edmund[/name]…I absolutely adore [name]Edmund[/name]! A classic that is not used often enough. Much preferable to [name]Edward[/name], if you ask me.
[name]Frederic[/name] (nn [name]Freddie[/name] or [name]Fritz[/name])…[name]Frederic[/name] is another wonderful name. I don’t love [name]Freddie[/name] or [name]Fritz[/name], though, for some reason (though I suppose a nn would make it more accessible during his younger years).
[name]Barnaby[/name] / [name]Barnabas[/name]…[name]Barnaby[/name] feels sweet and friendly. [name]Barnabas[/name] isn’t quite so accessible.

[name]Edmund[/name] and [name]Frederic[/name] match up very well with [name]Elliot[/name], [name]August[/name] and [name]Jasper[/name], while [name]Barnaby[/name]/[name]Barnabas[/name] and [name]Jonah[/name] go very nicely together (maybe because both names have strong biblical connections).

I don’t know any good nn options for [name]Edmund[/name] and [name]Barnaby[/name]/[name]Barnabas[/name] (other than the ones you mentioned). Of course, most of my daughter’s nn’s have absolutely nothing to do with her name, so you may not need to rely on the name to provide those (unless of course you are looking for something for the boy to use at school and with friends, in which case name-based nn’s are probably best).

I like [name]Fritz[/name] a lot!

You could use [name]Arnie[/name] as a nn for [name]Barnaby[/name]
