i personally happen to not be a fan of [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]. i do like [name_u]Cameron[/name_u]. although i think i’d prefer [name_u]Camden[/name_u] over [name_u]Cameron[/name_u] due to [name_u]Cameron[/name_u]'s datedness.
I love [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]. It’s a family name for me so maybe I’m biased (my mother’s family is from Down Home :)). It’s strong, classic and very underused. I love Scottish and Celtic names but for some reason I’ve never warmed to [name_u]Cameron[/name_u].
I think [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] is a great name! I love the old man names, and I love being reminded of literary characters ([name_m]Edmund[/name_m] Pevensie, [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_m]Bertram[/name_m]). [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] is an awesome name!
I wouldn’t worry about him not fitting in, because names don’t influence personality our anything like that. His name might stick out to an adult, but in a group of Sawyers and Aidens, he’ll fit in with the kids he’s most similar to personality-wise. And if you live in the US, odds are there will be a few [name_m]Williams[/name_m] and a [name_m]Henry[/name_m] or two to balance out the trendy names with the old man names.
I think [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] will fit right in without a problem.
I think both are lovely. You could just keep both till you have your baby and then see which name suits him better.
[name_f]Love[/name_f] both but I hate [name_m]Ed[/name_m]/[name_m]Eddie[/name_m] so I choose [name_u]Cameron[/name_u]
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m] SO MUCH!
I can’t imagine [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] and [name_u]Cameron[/name_u] being in the running against each other
[name_u]Cameron[/name_u] is fine, though, but personally, [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] has been my favourite name since I was 8 years old so I hold it in pretty high regards.
Wow, [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] and [name_u]Cameron[/name_u] feel like worlds apart to me! If you had a second, which style would you lean toward? Something closer to [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]'s style, or [name_u]Cameron[/name_u]'s? I think they’re both great names–in real life, I prefer the down-to-earth, Gaelic sort of vibe [name_u]Cameron[/name_u] gives off, and I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] the nn [name_u]Cam[/name_u] for a guy. I think it’s cute for a little boy, and honestly, quite a bit hot for a grown man. haha.
On the other hand, I love [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]'s dignified presence, and I would be tickled pink to meet a little [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]. Mainly because I’m a [name_f]Narnia[/name_f]-aholic, and I already know two Kamerons, and it’s just so regal, and… pretty. That being said, I can’t really see me using it. But [name_m]Eddie[/name_m] is cute, and, even better, imo, is [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]. If it can work for [name_m]Edward[/name_m], I don’t know why it couldn’t work for [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]. Besides, if [name_m]Edward[/name_m]'s considered fine (or cool) these days–why not [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]? I think it’s lovely. And I can’t imagine someone really teasing an [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]? Then again, I know more kids with names like Noralys and [name_f]Mari[/name_f]@nyeliz and Franchesca and [name_u]Aden[/name_u] and so many made-up names you couldn’t even imagine than kids named [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] and [name_f]Ella[/name_f] and [name_m]Jacob[/name_m], so I find the whole name-teasing thing to be a bit crazy, honestly. My church is made up of not-too-bad-off white people, generally middle class, suburban-type people, but it’s located right on the cusp of the inner city (only a couple blocks away), and we are heavily involved in an inner-city children’s ministry year long. Kids with names like [name_f]Elora[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], and [name_m]Clark[/name_m] are playing with kids named K@biliyza and T!que and R@hasha and Mir@cle, and none of them are thinking about names and why they’re awful (or pretentious). Maybe it’s because it’s sponsored by a church, but I really have never heard name teasing, both when I was a kid and when I’m involved in this ministry (and I’m pretty heavily involved in the ministry!). But I’ve known more kids (and peers) with unusual names than people who have mainstream names, so teasing because of a name seems like a mute point at this point. Maybe it’s not the same else-where, though–I went to a boarding high school with princes from Saudi [name_f]Arabia[/name_f] and poor immigrants from [name_u]Brazil[/name_u] whose parents were set on making a life for them and exchange students from South Korea and pastor’s kids who came from Romania not to mention kids from [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_m]York[/name_m] City and [name_m]Boston[/name_m] and [name_f]Florida[/name_f] and [name_u]California[/name_u]… It wasn’t like I had the normal high school experience, lol. But I would hope people wouldn’t be so dumb and rude as to make fun of such a wonderful name as [name_m]Edmund[/name_m].
Either is great–I’d rather meet an [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], but I’d rather have a [name_u]Cameron[/name_u], if that makes sense. I’m not sure how to help you, haha, I really like them both. And honestly, I’d be just has happy to meet a [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] as I would be to meet a [name_u]Cam[/name_u]. They’re both great. If your heart is completely with [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], though, I would totally go with [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]!
Good luck!
I am very much in favor of [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]! Odd to see this post because as I was taking my grandson [name_m]Levi[/name_m] around the block in his stroller I ran into some neighbors I rarely see now that our kids are grown. They were pushing a stroller with their new grandson, [name_m]Eddie[/name_m]! He is only 3 months old and adorable.
I don’t know if he’s [name_m]Edward[/name_m] or [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], but certainly your little [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] won’t be alone.
Choose the name you love and seems to fit your baby. Everyone will love him no matter what!
I think you’ll find that this poll will be overwhelmingly in [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]'s favor. [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] is a warm, dignified, handsome, underused name that will serve your son well. [name_u]Cameron[/name_u] isn’t a bad name, it just isn’t my style and feels a bit dated.
I agree with mischa, everything said is exactly spot on. However its not a family name for me.
Thank-you. I sort of knew [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] would be significantly preferred here. It isn’t on other sites. It had one vote in a poll i did on another forum. I have heard things like “[name_m]WAY[/name_m] TOO NERDY”, too pretentious for a baby, “are you having a baby or an old man?”, “that’s so weird, why don’t you just call him a normal name like [name_m]Edward[/name_m]?” “he will hate you if you give him an old man name like that, I would hate to be called that!” “my dad’s name is edmund and its an old man’s name, he is an old man, let me get you a picture of him so you can see what an [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] looks like, that’s not what you name a baby” etc etc
But I love the name, and despite the negativity I don’t think its particularly tease-worthy or detrimental to the child to be named [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] so I think i’m going to stick with it. Besides, like my husband said 99% of the people we know have LOVED the name.
I do love [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], like no other name. I love the literary significance so much and I just adore the sound of it. I love that it isn’t common and sounds so classy.
And just to say, my husband and I both would likely call him [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], not [name_m]Ed[/name_m]/[name_m]Eddie[/name_m], simply bc we want to call our child the name we named them, (but eddie is cute so when other people end up calling him that I can totally live with it).
Thanks everyone for getting me through a meltdown, you are all amazing, I so appreciate the feedback.
I love the sensibility and good taste around here:)
So glad you are going to use [name_m]Edmond[/name_m]. At the end of the day it’s your turn to name this precious child. You are clearly thoughtful in your choice. I love the literary connection.
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m] is my pick. [name_u]Cameron[/name_u]'s a nice name, but it feels like it’s past its time now. 5-10 years ago, it would have been a fashionable choice but right now it feels tired.
If our baby due in [name_f]October[/name_f] is a boy, [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m] nn [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] is the name we have chosen for him. I say go with it!
Oh I do love [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] all the way! [name_u]Cameron[/name_u] is ok, but it feels very “of the moment” if you know what I mean. [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] is so classy and dignified. [name_f]Love[/name_f] it!
