Shoot it straight- is it horrible to even entertain the idea of [name_f]Edwina[/name_f]?
[name_f][/name_f]
Im not massively fond of a lot of [name_m]Ed[/name_m]- names, but fell in love with [name_m]Edwin[/name_m] when naming our second boy. Came across [name_f]Edwina[/name_f] recently and at first though “eww”, then after second thought the idea of a little [name_f]Edwina[/name_f] “Winnie” started to grow on me.
[name_f][/name_f]
Don’t know why I’m even asking because my husband would 100% veto, but it gives me similar vibes as [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f], which has also been growing on me.
Absolutely not horrible at all! [name_f]Edwina[/name_f] might not be everyone’s cup of tea at first, but I totally see the charm [name_f][/name_f]- especially with [name_f]Winnie[/name_f][name_f][/name_f] as a nickname! [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] is also gorgeous, with its romantic, regal feel, so I can see why both names are growing on you.
[name_f][/name_f]
Since your husband might veto it (never say never!), you might also like names with a similar feel:
I think [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] is one my husband would be on board with! I hesitate on that one because we know SO many little girls that have names beginning with [name_f]El[/name_f]- (Eloise, [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], Ellie), but the nickname [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] might distance it from those family members enough.
I think for me it would depend on pronunciation. Ed-win-uh I think I could get behind and would more naturally lend itself to the nn [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] (which I absolutely love!), ed-ween-uh on the other hand is not my favorite.
[name_f][/name_f]
Also [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] really is beautiful!
[name_f]Edwina[/name_f] (Ed-wee-nah) was a big [name_f]Gen[/name_f] X name in Australia for babies born in the 1970s & 80s. Now, I don’t know any who are under 40 [name_f][/name_f]- most called [name_m]Eddy[/name_m], [name_f]Edie[/name_f] (Ee-Dee) or Weens. I don’t love the name but it has a particular nostalgia for me as [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] or [name_f]Heather[/name_f] might for others.
[name_f][/name_f]
Edwin-ah though has a very different, more cottagecore “Winnie” vibe. You’d be unlikely to get that pronunciation is [name_m]Oz[/name_m] but you might elsewhere.
Definitely not horrible; I love [name_f]Edwina[/name_f], personally! She would fit right in with some currently trending “old lady”/vintage names, and nickname [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] is just adorable.
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] is just as beautiful; I think both are well worth a try with your partner!
I kind of like it! I’ve met multiple little Edwins [name_f][/name_f]- and [name_f]Edwina[/name_f] isn’t toooo different from [name_f]Winifred[/name_f], [name_f]Edith[/name_f] and [name_f]Enid[/name_f]. Though I think I like it better said ed-win-uh over ed-ween-uh but the latter may be people’s go to…
[name_f]Edwina[/name_f] is adorable, and I love the nickname [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]! She’s definitely unexpected, but due for a comeback. I do prefer the ed-WIN-uh pronunciation over ed-WEEN-uh, though.
[name_f]Edwina[/name_f] nn [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] is cute!!
[name_f][/name_f]
…Someone I know just had a baby [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] and they’re calling her [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]. [name_f][/name_f]I also think [name_m]Elwyn[/name_m] or [name_f]Rowena[/name_f] would be cute too.
I’ve always used the “win” pronunciation. Definitely not fond of “ween” if that would be a common reading of it. [name_f][/name_f]I have a friend who calls her dog “Ween” lol.

I love it!! there was a character on one of my favorite shows for a while named [name_f]Edwina[/name_f] (Ed-ween-uh) and she was a lovely, hilarious character, so I have a very good association with [name_f]Edwina[/name_f] and [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] is an adorable nickname.
[name_f]Edwina[/name_f] could definitely work! In S2 of the show Bridgerton (based in the regency era), one of the prominent characters was called [name_f]Edwina[/name_f]. I’m guessing that people who’ve seen the show would associate it with her (not a bad association at all!)
[name_f][/name_f]
If [name_f]Agatha[/name_f], [name_f]Agnes[/name_f], and [name_f]Enid[/name_f] can make a comeback, I don’t see why [name_f]Edwina[/name_f] can’t!
I don’t think [name_f]Edwina[/name_f] is an ‘ew’ name at all, it’s so cute and vintage-y- topped with the nickname Winnie…honestly, totally darling. [name_f][/name_f]Seeing it written, it gives the whole vibe of cottages and Victorian dresses to me personally and it’s charming
[name_f][/name_f]
I think it’s usable- maybe in the future she’ll be the next rising vintage name like [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] and [name_f]Agnes[/name_f]
