I like [name_f]Philomena[/name_f] much better. I think [name_f]Philomela[/name_f] is a little heavy on the L sound.

This gave me a pause. I never consider [name_f]Philomena[/name_f] or [name_f]Philomela[/name_f] as potential name I would use ([name_f]Philomena[/name_f] was on my list, but I had too big list to actually use every name I put there).

I voted for [name_f]Philomela[/name_f], but I took me a while to decide.

Definitely [name_f]Philomena[/name_f], [name_f]Philomela[/name_f] is confusing.

I’ve never heard of [name_f]Philomela[/name_f] but it does confuse me. Not sure of the pronunciation…I’d definitely stick with [name_f]Philomena[/name_f].

I have never heard of [name_f]Philomela[/name_f] and quite frankly it just sounds wrong to me. It is L heavy and I’m not fond of the nicknames you might use for it. I think with a name like [name_f]Philomena[/name_f] you’d just need something more girly than [name_u]Phil[/name_u] to call her and [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] or [name_f]Mina[/name_f] are the perfect solution. I guess with [name_f]Philomela[/name_f] you could use [name_f]Mila[/name_f] or [name_f]Millie[/name_f] but it just sounds like a smoosh of [name_u]Phil[/name_u] and [name_f]Mila[/name_f] to me.

I prefer [name_f]Philomena[/name_f]. [name_f]Philomela[/name_f] is too heavy on the “L” sound for me and [name_f]Philomena[/name_f] has the bonus of “[name_f]Mena[/name_f]” as a great nickname!

I prefer the sound of [name_f]Philomela[/name_f], but the awful association (see [name_f]Philomela[/name_f] in Greek mythology) means that I would never use it. [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] is also a sweet nickname for [name_f]Philomena[/name_f].

Another vote for [name_f]Philomena[/name_f]! [name_f]Philomela[/name_f] is a little more tongue-twister-y.

Definitely [name_f]Philomena[/name_f]! It took me a while to see her merit, but she’s definitely growing on me. But she’s unusual enough as it is, and since [name_f]Philomela[/name_f] is even more unusual, it almost feels like you’re trying to make [name_f]Philomena[/name_f] even more unusual (although I’m sure that’s not your intent). I think [name_f]Philomena[/name_f]'s really sweet, honestly. I think it has some really great nns, too–[name_f]Fia[/name_f], [name_f]Mena[/name_f], [name_f]Lola[/name_f], even Filly…

Good luck!

I find both these names cumbersome & am not a fan but [name_f]Philomena[/name_f] is preferable to Philomelo. I have only come across a nun called [name_f]Sister[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Philomena[/name_f], many years ago. Philomelo sounds like an invention to me

I voted [name_f]Philomena[/name_f] b/c it is more recognizable.
The only reason I would go with [name_f]Philomela[/name_f] is for the nn [name_f]Mila[/name_f] as opposed to [name_f]Meena[/name_f]
